Billy with lipstick 

all he knows is that hes literally beat the guy up, and is trying to figure out how to be in some sort of Relationship without being a defensive dickhead half the time. so hes already frustrated cause people have EYES and he can't be a huge bitch at all about girls flirting with steve, because what if caring too much means steve will drop him?

hes so worked up about it cause nancy will just Look at steve sometimes and billy can see her brain weighing steves pretty hair and doting smile like hes still an option and he has to go fucking kick cans or something so he doesn't call her a cheater and stick his tongue down steves throat in front of her.

and then steve is honestly on cloud nine this entire time. no worries just sighs happily at his job thinking about billy fondly calling him a bitch or something and imagining where theyll live together in californa cause billys just so obviously happy to be around him and so gorgeous and staunchly closeted but wanted steve so much he could barely hide it with homoerotic basketball and calling him king steve. all. the. time.

It gets to a point where their daughter asks Steve if her daddy doesn’t love her. (Kids are blunt with their words but this really slices Steve open.)

Steve tells Billy, and Billy doesn’t really get time to consider anything. He doesn’t have the time to look for therapists (he’s already in therapy, but that’s for complex ptsd, not parenting) or to ask his little girl if she’d go to a park or anything with him. They already had planned to go to some kid’s birthday party at a restaurant on a boat dock.

At the party, they really only know the birthday kid’s family. But they get to know some snotty little asshole real fast because he just won’t leave their little girl alone. She’s on the verge of spilling tears when Billy interrupts, “Kid, can you swim?”

“Duh, I can swim,” he responded, all proud.

Billy picked him up and chucked him into the lake. “Well look at that. He can swim - ”

The kid’s dad comes over swinging. Gets lucky and lands one punch before Billy decimates the man. He doesn’t waste time. Kick to the balls, hit to the gut, the face, and he falls right into the lake next to his kid.

Billy scoops up his daughter and waves off the waiters and busboys who look like they feel obligated to do something, but aren’t getting paid enough in their summer jobs to fight a raging father.

Steve is beside his family in an instant, bag already packed and money on their table while their baby curls herself very small in her daddy’s big arms. “When we get home, I’m teaching you how to throw a punch. You can practice on Big Teddy. He won’t ruin your tea parties anymore.”

At home, she puts a sparkly star sticker on her daddy’s bruised cheek. He asks for a sticker every day until it heals. She kisses it just in case, and long after it’s healed and it’s a fifty/fifty chance that the kiss will be a raspberry instead.

Dustin: Good.

Steve: Bad... I mean good.

What he does tell him is that he'd like to see him again. He doesn't put it quite like that, but he's sure Eddie picks up what he's putting down, because he offers to hang out right away.

And his dad isn't home anyways, nor are Max and Susan. So he goes.

He doesn't expect Eddie to invite him into his home. To give him a beer and a joint as they settle into the couch, staring at the TV in front of them.

Billy's smoked before. His dad doesn't mind as much as he'd assume he would. Weed is something guys do. Like how guys drink beers and watch football.

Still, it hits him harder than it ever has before. Maybe it's the difference in environment or maybe it's because it's Eddie sitting next to him instead of his buddies from Cali.

Maybe it's because he hasn't really smoked in a while, because it tends to make him more paranoid than relaxed. Not this time, though.

"You know I'm a fag, right?" Billy croaks. His palms are sweaty where he's clutching his beer and his eyes are trained on the TV like the moment he looks away a monster will jump out and eat him.

Faintly he knows he shouldn't say it like that. That he shouldn't say it at all.

He doesn't give a fuck, right now. Let Eddie kill him if he doesn't agree. It's not like he's got much else to live for in this shit town.

"That supposed to scare me or something?" Eddie asks, knocking his shoulder into Billy's.

"Yes," Billy says, finally taking his eyes off the TV to look at Eddie. It's almost jarring to see him already looking back.

"Well, it doesn't."

Billy nods.

"Don't just go around telling people like that, though." Eddie pauses to take a swing of his beer. "Got a lot of nasty types here."

"But not you?" Billy swallows. He's not asking what he wants to ask, but he's asking something, which is better than nothing at all.

"Not me."

He ignores the stupid jocks that tell him to do kegstands or the girls that tug at his jacket like he's a piece of candy.

Those aren't his people. No, his people are the ones that hide out in corners smoking joints and sipping their beers while talking about music. Real music. Not that tears for fears bullcrap everyone else seems to be listening to.

It's only natural for him to approach the guy with long curly hair. He's got a cigeratte between his teeth and is clutching a little tin lunch box like his life depends on it. (It might, depending on if he's selling).

"What you got there?" Billy asks. He pulls his own cigarettes from his back pocket and places one between his lips, leaning forward and letting the spark of the strangers light his own.

The stranger stammers for a second. "You want to buy?"

Billy shrugs. Truth is, he's broke. Mystery guy doesn't have to know that, though. "Maybe I just wanna talk."

"Nobody wants to talk. What do you want."

Billy shrugs. "I don't got cash on me. I'd settle for your name."

The man leans back against the wall. "Eddie," he says. "Eddie Munson."

That night they talk. Billy finds out that even if there's not a lot to like about Hawkins, there is this guy and he kind of makes up for things.

He goes home with a pre-roll and a little note that has Eddie's number on it, hoping he didn't imagine the way Eddie's eyes dragged over his body when he thought Billy wasn't looking.
