I can agree that hating kids isn’t okay. Absolutely not. They didn’t do anything to anyone and it can have long-term impact. I can hate the parents that are raising hell spawns, but it’s not the children’s fault.

What I don’t understand is OP in the notes saying it’s also wrong to be like “well, I don’t really like kids, but I don’t hate them… I just don’t get along with them, can’t communicate with them, don’t understand them. I won’t be mean to them bcs of that though”.

What’s wrong with that? What am I supposed to do? Snap my fingers and miraculously develop Child Skills? I don’t hate kids. I don’t particularly enjoy their company, I don’t really get along with them, I can’t communicate with them. I know it. I do my best to be nice and not let it show but on the rare occasion when I’m faced with a kid, I am awkward and it can be pretty obvious I have no idea what to do. I’m not mean. I don’t hate them. I’m just awkward.

How is that wrong? I don’t hate kids, I’m not mean to them, I do my best. This is exactly why I don’t want kids, because I know I couldn’t really give them what they need at a young age.

Like i don’t like being around kids. i am autistic and have anxiety. i emotionally and mentally cannot be around them for long periods of times esp when they get loud. i don’t have child skills at all. and that’s okay . it’s okay to be uncomfortable around kids.

but disliking a whole social group of human beings when they have no power over you is strange. literally, disliking one of the most vulnerable groups of human beings, just because they don’t come out of the womb as perfect, neurotypical, able bodied beings is very strange to me. 

and trying to justify disliking a group of vulnerable, oppressed people, when it’s os much easier to just say you’re uncomfortable around them, dont’ like being around them and cannot handle them is vey strange.

Replace kids with ANY other demographic of people & ask if it still tracks or is it problematic?

I don’t like Autistic people

I don’t like people with ADHD

I don’t like Neurotypical people

There are things many people who fit in that demographic do that can make me uncomfortable& trigger my anxiety…but I’m not sitting here saying I DISLIKE them.

Disliking.a.whole.demographic.of.people.and.disliking.being.AROUND.them.is.not.the.same.

“I dislike being around children” is not the same as “I dislike CHILDREN:tm:”. Just as we don’t like to be treated like a monolith, they shouldn’t either. There are plenty of children who are as quiet as mice, and many who are very loud & energetic. There are some who are BOTH many times during the day, just like you, because they are PEOPLE.

That’s what @visibilityofcolor Said. It’s wrong to dislike a whole demographic of people because being around them makes You uncomfortable. I might be uncomfortable around loud people but I don’t dislike them as a WHOLE. Because no one is a monolith
