‘capitalism works’ factoid actually untrue. the 62 people who own half the world’s wealth are outliers and should be eaten.
Absolutely nuts how they made up a number for this satire post and the correction is that reality is *more absurd* than the number they chose
no i’m afraid it’s even worse than that. 62 was correct in 2016 when the original post was made.
someone write a fanfic where connor bedard is healthy and has a good nhl season
basketball caps
Watched this latest interview with Alex Nedeljkovic and he got asked what his top all-time starting lineup would be (3 forwards and 2 d-men) if he could only pick from his current or former teammates (not just the NHL but the other leagues he played in as well) - basically, anyone he's ever played on a team with.
Just as a reminder, since the 2018/19 season Nedeljkovic has played for the following NHL teams: the Canes, the Red Wings, the Penguins and now the Sharks. So keep their rosters in mind.
His first two answers for forwards were the usual suspects: Sid and Mack.
Then he had trouble deciding on the third but this is how the conversation went from there:
1. After he got clarification that they were looking for someone who would complement Sid and Mack the best, there was absolutely NO hesitation in saying it's Will.
2. He's basically putting Will on the same level as Svechnikov - a guy who's 5 years older than Will, is undoubtedly his team's second best player (this last season he was 2nd in goals scored, trailing after 1st by only 1 goal; 3rd in points scored, trailing after 2nd only by 1 point) and literally just won a Stanley Cup with the Canes.
3. Can't talk about Will without mentioning the chemistry with Mack lmao.
Also, after he picks all five players (Sid, Mack, Will, Slavin and Mo Seider) he finishes with: "I think those five guys would be pretty hard to beat. You could put those five up against almost anybody, I think."
😌

(in a world where connor bedard's eyesight is just as shitty/ even shittier than fraser minten's, but connor won't wear glasses because he thinks they are ugly on him and actually his vision isn't THAT bad (it totally is))
sometimes when bedmint is out and about connor can't make out something in the distance and fraser just hands him his own glasses because he can't stand seeing connor squint and still not be able to see
Anaheim’s schedule announcement vs the sharks having the sharks in the tank labeled #71 and #2 lol.
The fascinating part of Jayden Perron is he’s just… gone. He was Mack’s boybestfriend with couple names and codependency and then Mack went to bu and seemingly never thought about him again. And that to moi is a very interesting chara note. And what does it mean for the will of it all, when Mack has had these close friendships before but this is the first time that he made a friend without knowing it was going to end with the season. He likes Will the best of all, and it’s so much more intense, so much more real, because he’s still going to be there next year and the year after and the year after. And Mack doesn’t quite know how to package up all the things that has made him feel for Will, the friend he loves best, the friend he might just get to keep.
yesss exactlyyyy. cheetah and puma, hunting on the ice together. living together. knowing each other's favourite players and restaurants and musical artists. in old chicago steel clips, mack is staring intensely at jayden, like he wants to climb into his head and burrow into his brain. sound familiar?
cole eiserman, at ssm. jayden perron, in chicago. lane hutson, at bu. and where are they now? mack has always latched on to his One Guy in each locker room and then left them behind just as easily. and can you blame him? imagine moving from your childhood home to a different country at the tender, highly formative age of 12. never getting a chance to put down roots bc just two years later you boarded at shattucks for a season, then chicago for a year, then BU as a 17yo freshman who was never coming back for a second year once eligible for the show (despite what he promised eiserman lmao. poor eisy). imagine floating from team to team, roster to roster, always the new guy and the best guy and the youngest guy, too. of course mack learned how to fall fast and move on faster. how lonely, otherwise (even still?)
i do think he genuinely loved those boys, but so much of it was tied up in the hockey and the proximity of it all. and that's normal in hockey, where seasons end and trades happen and the guy you scored with one day is facing off across the dot from you the next; and esp for mack, raised to revere hockey as his god and moral compass and one true friend all in one. and then — enter will, who isn't going anywhere. will, who clutches his old friends with an iron grip and devoted dedication to keeping them in his life; who refuses to let them out of his circle. will, who switched positions to play on mack's line, for mack’s hockey, in possibly the deepest most romantic proclamation of loyalty ever to mack. will, who likes mack back just as much. will, who mack might finally, finally get to keep—!!!
Mack was considering returning to BU! He’d already told Cole Eiserman, his roommate at Shattuck St Mary’s, that they could be roommates his second year at BU (which would be Eisy’s freshman year). He was fairly non-committal about his plans in pre-draft interviews, but had definitely told some friends he was considering returning. He decided after Dev camp that he wanted to sign. Can’t imagine who might have influenced him to do that…
Will’s original plan was to do two years at BC. That’s what he and his friends agreed on. He suddenly changed his mind end of his freshman year (suspiciously timed to be right after the draft lottery where Sharks won the first overall pick). Much of the fabled but never confirmed fallout with Ryan Leonard was over Will deciding to leave a year early.
OMG ANON YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!! I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT COLE EISERMAN!!!!! Which is embarrassing when you consider who’s typing this right now lmao.
But yes, correct. Cole did talk about how Mack said that to him. Needless to say Mack flipped on that decision pretty quickly so poor Cole, no love lost there it seems!!!
Ugh, yes, hockey culture. Boarding school plus hockey culture? Doozy. How do you think it affected mack, specifically?
I saw some of his ex gf's tiktoks of them and i watched because I was curious about his formative years. Yikes. I was struck down hard by themes of exploitation and growing up without parents around, and tbh, i think it reveals a lot about how his idea of family and relationships and women is probably really messed up and/or distorted at best. Boarding school kids are a different breed, but toss in hockey culture around that, ooof. I think will's experience is much different, as brutal as the ntdp is. He always had a parent onsite and very likely wasn't bonking girls when he was 14.
I'm gearing up to read We Breed Lions. I'm familiar with the case having read about the details in media reports years ago but may save it for winter depression season ðŸ«
hmm not sure wym by exploitation? mack’s ex was a child dating another child who sometimes posted abt her bf like any high schooler. imo consensual underage sex with a longterm gf is a totally normal part of the teen experience which should absolutely not distort anyone's view of relationships or women, and in fact was probably the healthiest part of mack's childhood. i do agree will prob was not bringing girls back to the plymouth house for colleen to whip her up an extra plate of eggs in the am (tho worth noting at 14 he wasn’t in the ntdp yet).
look, regular boarding school culture mostly isn’t that bad, just a bit weird. mack also only attended ssm for a year (and apparently remembers it and its choco milk fridge v fondly). more striking to me is that mack went from being homeschooled doing hw in the backseat of his teammates’ parents’ cars on the way to the rink, directly to covid hockey boarding school for one season, before moving to chicago to play for the steel for another season, before becoming THE 17yo freshman at BU that everybody knew was leaving next year for the show. the kid talks about how hard the move from vancouver to san jose was, but he spent his formative teenage years bouncing around from team to team, city to city. he was the new guy on every roster, in every locker room, every year, and the best guy at that (which is much better than being the worst guy, but still so isolating and hard). he never had the chance to put down roots; i'm not sure that he ever wanted to. why would he, when it would only mean ripping them all up again in a matter of months?
he was always new, and he was always the best. think of how fucking lonely it must have been there, alone at the top. everyone knowing he was above them; everyone knowing he was just passing through.
do i think mack was hazed the way you’ll read abt in wbl? no, for many reasons: bc he was always the best; bc he had a father who seems involved enough to have noticed and connected enough to have pulled mack out of any truly bad situation; bc he had aiden looking out for him at shattuck's and in boston; bc his only year without aiden was spent with a seemingly kind billet family in the ushl, where hockey culture is less insane than in the ohl, in what i am sure was a very intentional choice by rick celebrini. that said, i think the objectively crazy trajectory of his juniors career—how he learned not to grow too comfortable with any one team; how he learned to slide seamlessly into a locker room and latch onto one best friend, then drop them equally seamlessly when he slid right back out; how he learned to love his parents and siblings deeply, intensely, but from a distance—all conspired to form him in very specific ways. this is what i mean when i say that mack is undersocialised, that he’s not always loyal, that he sometimes leans on will to bear the brunt of building team camaraderie on both their behalfs, the same way he did with aiden and jayden perron and lane hutson. that he doesn’t know how to be anything other than his best attempt at a Real (Hockey) Boy. it's not me disparaging mack; it's me mourning his childhood.
but think, even so, of how far he's come!— mack now, who likes cookies’n’cream ice cream and wants to improve his chip shot, who plays catan with toff and dickie and goes to broadway with the boys; who facetimes will "all the time" because finally, finally, he's latched on to somebody who latched right on back; who openly gushes over how much he admires will and loves his team. look at how happy he is to regrow his roots in san jose: how fucking delighted he is to get to stay!

it's summer which means i am constantly asking myself questions such as "who is on my hockey team" and "is that a good idea"
BR OpenIce is rpf-ing on main
TREVOR PLEASEEEEEE
i feel like the way the players talk about mack is going to change a little bit tho… like it makes sense to call them dumb and dumber because they were rookies but i can’t imagine them calling mack dumb and childlike when he’s the captain. it might create negative connotation for the nhl fans who don’t watch sharks regularly. also with more younger sharks this year, they might have to be more mature. not saying we won’t ever see sillybrini again but we might not get as much info from the third parties about dumb and silly stuff compared to the last two years.
Hmm I see your point anon, but I have a slightly different take. I actually think it’s pivotal to the Sharks’ development and team bonding that they continue treating Mack the way they have so far: with respect and deference, but without putting him on a pedestal; essentially treating him like the kid he actually is and should still be allowed to be.
Willmack’s Dumb and Dumber persona is part of why they connected so easily with the vets, who might otherwise have found it a little jarring to take orders from a literal 19 year old. It also makes them feel relatable to the rest of the young core. Everyone’s foaming at the mouth to play with generational talent Macklin Celebrini, but beyond the lovely San Jose weather, the Sharks’ biggest selling point is their locker room. They’ve created a culture that’s welcoming, goofy, and built around playing and fighting for each other.
For that reason alone, I think their silly side will remain very much intact next season. In fact, it’ll probably be amplified. Mack leads by example, and that example extends beyond the ice. I think he’d want the room to stay exactly as warm, unserious, and close-knit as it has been.
Enormous weekend upcoming for me and me fellow willmackgabeleno connoisseurs
and if it couldn't get better...
sharks socmed team, do the funniest thing ever and be reincarnated as a lotus flower
this is a masterpiece

Wenny said he can't (won't) choose between Mack and Will for who the better babysitter is because they are two peas in a pod.
Ned mixes up their names when telling a tory about them, as if they are blurred together in his mind.
Cat says she would think something is wrong or someone is sick if either Will or Mack shows up to her house without the other.
Goody associates Will's face with him asking where Mack is.
Toff says they need each other.
Everyone on the team knows they are a bonded pair that should not be separated.
yeah idk
