i think they fought because will asked leno to get an abortion when he accidentally knocked leno up back at bc, and leno did it even though it went against his catholic beliefs because it would ruin will's future, but when MACK got pregnant when they were still rookies, will was suddenly ready for fatherhood. yeah mack tragically lost the baby, but when leno reminded will that the early miscarriage was for the best since now will's life wouldn't be ruined + no one would even know about it, will got mad at him and leno said some hurtful things in response. there were a lot of raw emotions and no one was really at their best in that moment and it took some time for both parties to heal and reflect on the situation.
