willmackleno summer (@senilebird ruining my day in dms) where they're training hard all day together and heading back to the apartment/airbnb where no one knows they haven't used the spare bedrooms once. late evenings on the beach after everyone else is gone or hundreds of feet away and it's just the three of them in stiff saltwater shorts and hoodies and backwards hats kicking a soccer ball around in the sand. leno tripping mack up at the ankle and then catching him around the waist before he falls. play-shoving that turns into hands under hoodies, skin on skin. mack with his lips to leno's ear telling him he should try his stick out tomorrow, no not like that get your mind out of the gutter, but will's mind's in the gutter and he sucks a mark onto leno's neck, gets them all off track. shared nooners that mack stuffed into his pockets, leno driving them around with mack in the passenger seat, one hand on his thigh, and will sprawled in the back on his phone, living so easy, with that end of summer dread in the back of their minds. will and mack taking such good care of leno at the end because it's a long long season away from him

i saw people talking about that fateful december 13th fight again so may i add that after mack stood up and skated away from wotherspoon, two of the pens players who had joined the scrum both looked at mack with the exact same expression on their faces like “what the fuck just happened..."
