my unwoke thought. i dont think all genderbent characters should look exactly the same as their original. it takes a certain wisdom to know when their femininity or masculinity is key to their character regardless of gender, or when the behaviors/traits tied to their gender (or the opposite gender) being important to them is actually is what's at play here. though i do think more people should make genderbent characters look exactly the same if it means there's more muscular women. end post

So I follow N. D. Stevenson (comics writer and animator, most famous for Nimona and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and his husband Lee Ostertag (also a comics writer and animator) on Instagram. When I started following them, they were both publicly presenting as women, and then a few years ago N. D. came out as transmasc nonbinary, and then earlier this year Lee also came out as transmasc. Anyway this is all setup to say that Lee had the chance to make the funniest post of all time and he took it:
I want to throw in that part of the context behind this meme was N.D. talking about how he sometimes gets hatemail for marrying a man as a former lesbian, and how many people seem to think he divorced his wife.
I have not managed to find anyone who thinks that in the wild, but it is so damn funny.
Hmm! Seems like I spent my "staying-up-far-too-late-in-the-night" hours well on thinking about my boy! I'm gonna watch this with my spouse when I am not aboslutely sleepy. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Read the Yuto and Deneb novel. It takes place simultaneously not long after Den-O, in 2008 for Yuto, and post Zi-O with a Timejacker as a major antagonist. TIME TRAVEL!
...a lot of this novel is based on specific Japanese history and Buddhist knowledge that I am very out of my depth on. Evidently Yuto is as pretty as a historical figure named Minamoto no Yoshisune!
But also, it's a zombie novel. And Jesus Christ, being freed from ratings and making-human-suits or a CG budget allows Shirakura to go wild. -shudder- I'm also amused that we get a lot of what would be considered "out-of-suit" action, with Yuto frequently using his sword outside of being transformed, again, things that would not fly for filming! (Which also helps me in fic writing, thanks Shirakura!)
I always appreciate that Yuto's intelligence actually gets a focus in these novels. I noticed in the other one that he was the one making logical leaps in solving the mystery and here he actually calculates time using sundials and astrology. He was supposed to be an astronomer after all and from my cursory glancing, that requires physics degrees.
Deneb being so cooking focused is sooooo cute! And I love that he keeps charming people, as he's been shown to do.
Kinda rolled my eyes as soon as the Zi-O elements really began to get folded in. Ahh Shirakura...
Riders on horseback is always an excellent substitute when you can't have a steel horse. Especially since Yuto's a secret sweetie and can't think of any other name to give the horse but "Deneb." Hehe

-whoops and hollers about Yuto being ready to lay his life on the line to protect a pregnant woman, who might or might not be the Airi of that time, considering how he reacted to her-
I gotta say, I seriously do hope we get some sort of spin-off or something with Den-O that deals with the fact that once Airi gets pregnant again, the issues that caused Den-O in the first place flare up all over again.
I CAN'T BELIEVE HANA NEARLY DIDN'T INTERVENE BECAUSE DENEB IS JUST TOO CAREFREE ABOUT EVERYTHING! Actually, yes I can, this is Den-O we're talking about.
Also, get owned Timejacker, deal with Den-O mechanics and singularity points.
Soooo, Yuto is considering university, though perhaps with a different major in mind than say, physics. The question of how is going to be interesting buuuut, we shall see...
