i actually really liked the scenes with ruthye and lobo when they were both in the brigand’s prison. he was pulling her towards senseless killing and encouraging her to let her anger take over. which was beautifully mirrored with the conversation she has with Kara at the end of the Krem fight. i was crying so hard when ruthye said "i'm already ruined" (i wrote it down in my notes and i'm so glad). kara telling ruthye that her lving a full life to honor her family will be her revenge on krem is so beautiful when kara (as far as i know) doesn't have anyone to blame for having lost her family. i will always love her killing krem, it's so loaded. it's for ruthye, but it's also so ruthye can never make the mistake of doing it, but it's also for kara. for everyone she lost to a faceless death. for krypto.

the pain that kara and ruthye carry with them is so real and palpable in every scene. ruthye's courage and willingness to stand up to anyone really just emphasized how broken and sad she was every time i saw it. i could see the anguish on her face when she was "giving her pitch" as kara summed it down to. i don't quite remember the scene (somewhere on bilquis i think) but i wrote down the moment when ruthye asks "when did you stop hurting?" and kara just says "any day now". ruthye's (dare i say) fear of becoming kara was so sad because you can feel how Hard kara is trying to put on a brave front, to seem like she's cool and fun and quirky. but kara was just as broken the whole time. her line of "my dog...my krypto" when she's incapacitated from the kryptonite radiation just broke me. she was finally face to face with loss once again and she just wanted her dog, just wanted to keep him safe above all else.

the love in this movie is what really pulls it together. kara loves krypto so powerfully that he is part of her. my cat just got spayed a few days ago and when kara told krypto she had to leave but she'd be back, i couldn't stop thinking about me beanie baby at home. the reunion was so perfect. even though beans had just had surgery earlier that day, she couldn't stop purring and rubbing on me when she got home. krypto jumping on kara and immediately knocking everything over was so adorable. (the moment at the end with the chocolate was so fucking adorable, i love how real krypto feels and how real everyone's reactions to him feel. clark clapping at him to catch his attention? perfect)

i love how impossible it is for kara to Not connect to the people around her. she latched onto ruthye immediately even though she wanted absolutely nothing to do with her (krypto definitely fell in love with ruthye instantly too, but he probably just realized how similar to kara she was). she opened up to clark at the end (sitting in the lois seat, that must be where heart to hearts happen) i loved their conversation about birthdays beind "tricky" as clark said. but i'm also so glad kara is staying on earth, i thought it was really notable that (i can't remember the full context of where they were off the top of my head. thank god for notes) when ruthye says "on your planet" and kara cuts in to say "earth", she's obviously trying to avoid thinking about the pain of losing krypton, but she also could've just said a random planet. there was obviously something about earth that has already kinda of turned itself into a home, even if it's just the fact that clark, another kryptonian, is there.

i thought young kara's sentiment of wanting to die with her family on argo and be buried next to them was so beautiful. her mother says something about kal-el having been sent off and declared a "conquerer of worlds", which seems to reinforce the idea that kryptonians (at least some, jor-el seemed iffy on it) were on board with the idea of conquering another planet purely in hope that they might remain. i personally like to believe clark gave her a bunch of 80s-2000's stuff when she started to settle into human life, it would help her seem more normal for her age but also you can't tell me he didn't want her to be 'cultured' (interesting we didn't get any mention of her earth 'family'. maybe i missed a danvers mention but idk).

A little piece I wanted to make after I watched the supergirl movie the day it came out :)
