The study onky happened bcs baby monkeys without mothers in cages died unless they were given pieces of cloth to cuddle. The findings were that a baby monkey would spend almost all their time on the cloth mother. They also put the baby in the room with scary machinss that made noises and the baby went to the cloth mother. U probs know all that but whatevs

I think @halfbaked00q have discussed this before, but I remain firmly convinced that Q is the type of person who finds monkey-grooming activities deeply soothing, and that's why he loves having pets (and, per my headcanons, has always been involved in animal rehabbing/fostering).

He LOVES bathing and lotioning his nudie cats (or brushing and grooming them, if they're the Abyssinians from my fic-verse). He loves checking their teeth and trimming their claws. He loves looking in their ears for mites. He loves feeding bottle babies and training them, and teaching his cats tricks. He loves working with dogs, too.

At any time, he is up for giving an animal a good brush-down and a tick-and-flea check. It is a PEAK decompression and destressing activity for him. It just scratching that primitive itch re: relaxing while also being productive and bonding with the group (while also not having to be properly Social™, while he finds exhausting).

Once he and Bond are on certain terms, Bond absolutely comes in for a share of this attention. Show me your teeth, Bond! And your ears! Now let me see your nails! Tsk tsk. So scraggly and grimy. Sit still while I fix that.

my hot take is that Q is exactly the kind of guy who finds doing grooming routines/rituals on his pets to be fun and relaxing downtime activities. That man is 100% monkey coded in the *casually picking thru fur of ur buddy for lice and/or general grooming* sense. this I think is why naked cats makes sense for him - grooming ritual required.

but, ofc. cats only need so much grooming, and also probs only tolerate so much grooming

this is where 007 Jame Bond comes in.

Q would, in fact, be the kind of guy to sit Bond down and start doing all sorts of grooming rituals on him. for HIS own edification, lol. to him it'd be like those fun cute videos of ppl grooming a cute cat or lil pomsky or sth.

so yes Q's idea of a fun relaxing break activity would be *sees Bond passing by* Ah, good, 007- *snags him, sits on him so he can't escape, and starts trimming his nails and massaging lotion/oil into his cuticles*

I think ppl seeing it would be like, wtf 007, you're treating the Quartermaster like an old timey body servant or sth?? heyo is that kinda fucked up, y'all are equals at least or possibly Q is your lateral superior??

but it's like. do not get it twisted, Bond is 100% the pet in this situation. Bond is the one getting his scalp massaged and moisturized yes, but Q is using him as a mere squeaky toy cum fidget in this scenario. Bond getting groomed slash pampered is the byproduct here, the POINT of this all is Q's relaxation, enjoyment, and edification.

(Bond is ofc 100% content with the situation- man is soooo beloved-pet-coded that is his deepest most fervent dream and fantasy. but also do not get it twisted. Bond is definitely the squeaky toy slash fidget cube in this situation)
