Summary: From the @choices-september-challenge prompt, “Loss” . (I’m a day early - I know.) A letter to Liam.
Notes: I was going to add a story around this, but I finished the letter and I felt it was strong enough on its own. I’m sorry in advance to Liam, this one made me cry after writing.
As I sit here in bed writing you this letter, you are fast asleep in your bassinet next to me. The heavens above have blessed your father and I with you. Words could never express how much joy you already bring me. From the golden locks upon your head, to your tiny toes, I love every inch of you. Your father says our eyes have the same sparkle in the sunlight, could you believe such a silly thing he says? My world melts when you open your eyes and smile up at me. I could kiss your head and cheeks for hours and never tire of having you in my arms. I will cherish each moment, because one day I know you will be too big for me to carry no matter how hard I try.
I am so proud of your brother, Leo, he has been so full of love since we brought you home. At times he may not show it around your father, but I promise when we are in your nursery he has a smile so bright and wide. He sits so still with you in his arms, always placing the most gentle kisses to the top of your head. I hope you two will remain close, friends and family are the core of our heart. I’m sure you will have your moments where you can’t stand one another, but always remember that you are blood, and your love for each other can never fade.
Liam, I can’t wait to show you this beautiful world we live in, from the apple orchards in our own backyard to the sparking blue oceans. I look forward to the days where we can play at Applewood Manor. As a Prince you will be watched carefully, but Applewood will be the place where you can be yourself. The court will expect you to act with dignity and refinement, but I want you to be able to express yourself when you can. You may not believe it, but I love to run through the field of flowers. Not a care in the world, but surrounded by nature’s beauty and those I love. Your father is having a garden maze built for me and I expect us to have many adventures wandering through our piece of heaven.
As Prince, our people will still look up to you. Showing our people that we respect, and value them and their families is important. Without our people, our kingdom means nothing. Each person, from the nobility that we interact with daily, to the baker who works long hours to feed his family. We all have an important role to help Cordonia thrive. Our job is to give the people hope. Hope is what will carry us through good times and the bad. You may not always have your answer the moment you need it, but hope will lead the way.
I must quickly finish this letter, you seem to be ready for your feeding. You ‘coo’ just for a moment to let me know, only a few days old and you are already a gentleman. My Liam, what did I do to deserve such a wonderful son? You have shown me a love I never knew possible. I love you so much with every fibre of my being that will never fade, even beyond my years on this earth. Every kiss, every hug, every laugh I give you is filled with all my heart and soul, and is forever yours to hold in your heart. My amazing, beautiful, son.
