hits different after watching the whole show because for ed meeting stede was like being able to swim again. no feeling of being stuck in the same place forever, no feeling of pointlessness and boredom. everything started to get better, sea was more peaceful again, sky wasnt as cloudy and grey as it was before. ed discovered new colors, new feelings. but then stede left and tsunami in ed's head started. he created this mask of ruthlessness and anger. he became the kraken, something that everyone, him included, were terrified of. he felt trapped again - trapped in his own head, in this never ending storm, in kraken's tentacles. what everyone saw was him being blackbeard again but what nobody knew was that he was in fact just waiting to drown
