01. CHARACTER BACKGROUND.
Morel ( they/them! ) is Eden's gravedigger/gardener. A quiet and withdrawn individual, they are someone who buys fully into the beliefs of Eden's cult, but does not necessarily agree with the way it's ran. They keep their head down & tend to the corpse of the last tree, dutifully burying each new body beneath it's trunk. Eden believes that when the final brother of Eden falls, the last tree will live again. Morel not only tends to the tree & the mushrooms that grow from the corpses, but they also perform sacred burial rites --- each time praying to see a spark of life springing from the roots.
Morel's position within Eden is well-respected. Among the most devout, it is considered a huge honour to be the one who buries the bodies and helps things grow from them; you are essentially the one carrying out Eden's mission, perhaps even more-so than those who kill in Eden's name. As such, there are complicated politics at play. A more ambitious person would leverage this position to become the Father's right-hand, but Morel doesn't care for power. They care for the tree and nothing more. However, they're keenly aware that their position can make them a target for those who want to climb the ranks. While they have one or two assistants, they keep their knowledge close to their chest. This is insurance. Being the only one with the knowledge to take care of the tree ( and the mushroom garden they grow below it ) makes them invaluable.
Personality wise, Morel is quiet and reserved with a dry sense of humour. They are deeply devout and have immense faith in Eden's religion, but are largely disillusioned with the politics and the way things are run. Morel finds beauty in decay; life and death are part of a grander cycle, and to be buried beneath the tree is to become one with the rest of humanity.

02. VERSES.
Currently this blog will be split into two primary verses: one where they are still at Eden, and one where they have been kidnapped by the C.O.I and given the task of attempting to grow a garden for the C.O.I. Since this blog is early days, these are yet to be fully expanded on! But any important lore/updates that comes up in threads will be put here.
03. THE GARDEN.
Beneath the last tree is a large patch of soil. Though no greenery has been seen for decades, there is a mycelium network thrumming with life beneath the dirt. Mushrooms grow from the bodies that are buried, which has grown to be Eden's primary food source. Morel spends just as much time cultivating this garden in order to keep a steady supply of food going to the citizens of Eden than he does praying & performing rituals. To them, these tasks are one in the same: they consider their job to be a religious duty and are very, very serious about it. To create a garden elsewhere ( such as on a C.O.I base! ) is paramount to blasphemy.
