nikolai's beef with a literal ribbon will never not be funny
rereading six of crows and my god Kaz I forgot how in denial Kaz is. "He didn't want her, he just wanted their routine back" as he complains about not being able to work while she's sitting at his window talking to him.
idk why a popular take is that Kaz doesn't care about Jesper or truly love him when that couldn't be farther from the truth. Yes he's hard on Jesper and sometimes outright cruel and I'm not defending his actions. However there are so many people saying he just liked toying with him and never cared and thats like? not their dynamic at all? Maybe Kaz didn't love him the same way but he cared sooo much. The reason why it was so difficult for him to forgive is BC he cared. He loved his big brother so much and for him to see Jesper as said brother??? It's like he's finally letting someone in the way Jordie had been. Kazper's friendship means so much to me and I feel like people just ruin by insisting that it doesn't mean something to Kaz when it absolutely did.
Yah no the retconning of tailoring to make it no longer as unique as it was is so annoying to me. Nina was just casually having a tailoring business as a heartwrender in Ketterdam even tho she's not a healer. and even then tailoring was something only the most powerful healers like Genya could do.
Not the most powerful ~Healers~, Corporalki with an unusual knack for Materialki work, but yeah...
but it wasn't a heartwrender skill. It was only a healer skill
It wasn't specified in such a way in the original version, when it was still a unique skill:
“When Genya’s abilities began to show themselves, I could have had her choose between becoming a Fabrikator or a Corporalnik. Instead, I cultivated her particular affinity and made a gift of her to the Queen.”
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 7
The difference between a Healer and a Heartrender isn't about innate skill, but later specialisation:
“It’s a great honor,” said Fedyor. “To save a life. You saved many.”
“Not enough,” I murmured, thinking of the terrified look on Alexei’s face as he was pulled into the darkness. If I had this power, why hadn’t I been able to save him? Or any of the others who had perished on the Fold? I looked at Fedyor. “If you really believe that saving a life is an honor, then why not become a Healer instead of a Heartrender?”
Fedyor considered the passing scenery. “Of all Grisha, Corporalki have the hardest road. We require the most training and the most study. At the end of it all, I felt I could save more lives as a Heartrender.”
“As a killer?” I asked in surprise.
“As a soldier,” Fedyor corrected. He shrugged. “To kill or to cure?” he said with a sad smile. “We each have our own gifts.”
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 4

Can we as a fandom acknowledge the extreme double-standard that many view the kanej “I will have you without armor” quote with?
For the most part, Kaz gets to be as emotionally unavailable, cruel, and violent as he wants, and is celebrated for it. Many of his most heinous actions are taken in a very lighthearted way, joked about, and justified in every manner. Hell, the scene where he straight up dehumanizes Inej and refers to her as an investment, something to be owned, is one of the most beloved quotes in the series!
But Inej has one (count em, ONE) moment of frustration, where she asks Kaz to just TRY to put in an equal amount of thought and effort into their relationship that she does, where she says something that could be perceived as a bit hypocritical, which she later acknowledges, and fans of the series treat her like a villain for it. Like she’s a manipulative and abusive partner who is forcing Kaz into physical intimacy, never mind that she explicitly disproves this about one page after this scene.
I see this trend happening a lot in fandom, where female characters are expected to be overly mature and endlessly understanding, putting in 10x the emotional labor into a relationship compared to their male partner, who is lauded as a perfect boyfriend just for existing. And I’m sure this is compounded by the fact that Inej is a woman of color, and is therefore held to a much higher standard of moral purity compared to the rest of the cast.
Like, I’m “sorry” the scary woman of color said something a bit inconsiderate to your precious white boy, but guess what? Inej and Kaz are BOTH heavily traumatized teenagers with communication issues trying to navigate their romantic feelings towards each other, and to forgive one of them for their flaws while villainizing the other just shows your deeply engrained misogynistic and racist beliefs.
i would've loved to read more about Kuwei's adventures at the little palace and how he was annoying Zoya lmao.
“you should have killed me at the ice court”
FIFTEEN YEAR OLD KUWEI BTW HE BELIEVED THINGS WOULDVE BEEN EASIER IF HE WAS KILLED. HE WAS WILLING TO SACRIFICE HIMSELF FOR THE OTHERS 😭😭😭
kuwei hate is so unfounded 💔💔💔

i may not show it but at all times i am thinking about alina starkov and genya safin
(links // tip jar!)
actual angel of my life
Morning Doodle: “Why must all of your Saints be martyred?” Yuri blinked. “Because … because it shows a willingness to sacrifice.” “Do you think Lizabeta was willing to be pulled apart? How about Demyan when he was stoned to death? Or Ilya, chained and thrown into a river to drown?”(Leigh Bardugo’s King of Scars CH 11)
rip Nina Zenik you would've adored your pride flag.
the only thing I don't really appreciate about Rule of Wolves is the way it made it seem like Kaz and Jesper and Wylan don't talk or help each other out unless it's for Inej. I mean ik at the end of Crooked Kingdom they split up but I didn't think it meant they would literally stop talking. I just thought they'd stop working together in the Crow Club.
Wait it did that? I haven’t read RoW in years, and even then I accidentally read it before SoC, I had no idea SoC existed, so when those three came up I was like ‘who tf are these people and why should I care’ and did not pay attention so I don’t remember shit about them in RoW. But wait how did it imply that, if someone doesn’t mind refreshing me?
"But now you know why I don't visit more often"
"No one asked you to visit more often a ND I don't remember issuing an invitation for lunch"
"It's for Inej"
"Why didn't you say so? What do you need?"
Idk to me this didn't feel like 2 friends that see each other every other week or so. It feels like 2 friends that despite living close never talked to each other.

Yes to this but…I fear there are many other things I don’t appreciate about Rule of Wolves.
r we are talking about the tunnels Nikolai made from lazaylon to os alta. bc considering they have durasts and tidemakers it doesn't seem too difficult to imagine.
No. No. The fact that in a year Kaz Brekker has supposedly constructed secret tunnels from the crow club to Wylan’s mansion. That is like the whole length of Ketterdam. A city on water. The canals. He just came into money. What are we doing. Rule of Wolves is full of nonsense—
I mean sewage systems exist. Sewers tunnels and canals are typically big enough for people to walk through them. Scientifically it makes sense. Now the idea that Kaz built a whole new sewage system just to travel to Wylans house is ridiculous. It would've made more sense if he'd just copied existing tunnels and canals for his own purposes.
