Sometimes I think about how both Mobei Jun and Luo Bingge are in some ways both self inserts of Airplane as a person. Lbh, especially pidw!lbh, is airplane if he actually acted on all his dark thoughts and resentment. However the difference between the two is that sqh never acts on these dark thoughts of revenge and resentment, he instead vents them out in writing and cursing people in his mind, these horrible impulses remain safely in his mind but if he ever did act on every dark impulse I think it would look very similar to luo binghe’s revenge against the whole world at his unfair treatment as seen in pidw, but this also makes them fundamentally different people because even though the blueprint is similar their actions diverge and so do their personalities because sqh has these thoughts but never acts on them but lbh would act on these impulses. Lbh and sqh are both very intelligent and have the capacity to play the long game in a revenge scheme, if they put their mind to it I think they both could pull off the looks innocent but is biding their time before they strike type of crafty and elaborate revenge because they are very similar in this way.

However because lbh was purposely created as a revenge fantasy, he inherently differs in personality this way with sqh towards venting out resentment because he’s supposed to be someone who doesn’t hesitate unlike airplane and sqh in real life. Lbh is also more smooth and charming, knowing exactly when to say certain things and more charming and handsome, meanwhile sqh is more rambling mess and nervous. However their intelligence, competence, and craftiness are something that I think can be found in both of them equally even though they are very different people because in some ways lbh was supposed to be a twisted and fractured mirror of one facet of airplane’s personality and resentment. I also think og!lbh is also airplane’s own commentary about how he could achieve everything society deems as equaling happiness but never achieving true happiness because what he really wanted was to not be alone and to be loved but he himself never thought that it was possible that someone could love him so therefore lbh his revenge filled self insert never gets a happy ending either because his revenge was empty and never got him what he truly wanted. Lbh as stated in the airplane extras was never meant to have any romance plot in the original outline, he was always meant to be alone and I think this reflects airplane’s thoughts of how he himself believed he would inevitably always end up in real life, alone and unloved.

Meanwhile mbj I feel is an amalgamation of both what sqh finds sexually and romantically attractive as well as what he always wanted to be, but felt he never could achieve in himself. Mbj is someone who doesn’t care about the opinions of others and is unbothered by their opinions. He’s not easily swayed with giving into the whims of others and walks his own path doing what he wants and not what others demand of him. Even when he’s under lbh’s command, like when lqg was attacking for sqq’s body, mbj literally stops to question lbh in his command to go fight lqg and says essentially ‘I already went’ and basically going dude it’s your turn to fight him to lbh. He also just takes naps in the business hall when lbh is holding his meeting. Mbj just does not give a shit what people think of him or bend to their demands, he does what he wants whenever he wants. I think in some ways this reflects how sqh knows he is a people pleaser and in some ways hates this about himself, but it’s also how he survives and gets by, but I think a part of him wishes he could just ignore the demands of his readers and do what he wants to write without worrying about the audience. However airplane can never do this unless he wants to be crushed under the weight of poverty and having no money to live and pay for living expenses. I think it also reflects on how sqh wishes he could deal with his own abandonment issues, like mbj also was abandoned, but sqh and mbj outwardly react to it very differently and I think airplane wished he could be like mbj to not care about his family’s absence at all and be strong enough to walk his own path unbothered, rising above it all to become a strong figure doing whatever he wants. Except mbj is a real person now with his own thoughts and feelings beyond the scope of a fictional character in pidw so he’s not as unmoved by abandonment and emotional pain especially when it comes to the few people he lets himself care about such as sqh.

Lbh is the fantasy of what I think sqh would want solely in fiction in reaction to being abandoned and unfair treatment by others, a way to safely vent his resentment and anger at the world in a fictional setting, but mbj I think is the way he would want to react to abandonment and unfair treatment in real life where he can look at what happened to him and be truly apathetic and above needing to deign it with a response. However mbj doesn’t end up with anyone or find a loyal figure by his side because I think sqh doesn’t think happy endings are possible so the happiest ending he could think of for mbj was for him to do whatever he wanted and to be arrogant and above everyone else in a way that makes him unbothered by the actions of others. I also think mbj never had a partner in pidw because airplane created mbj as his ideal man for himself and had a certain possessiveness to keep mbj for himself. The world could have his pain in lbh, but his happiness he’d keep closer to his heart and away from the claws of his temperamental readers who would inevitably find a way to tear mbj down or possibily demand to kill mbj off in the future.

But also imagine this is before moshang get together, but post-noodles incident, and sqh and tlj seem to be getting closer and people start assuming that they’re totally boning/together which is not helped by sqh sometimes referring to lbh as his ‘son’ when he’s muttering and those who overhear are like ‘I knew it! They’re totally together! Lbh is tlj’s son and if sqh is also calling lbh his son then that means sqh is basically claiming lbh as his son too as his “stepfather” and this means their “relationship” must be pretty serious’. The demons in the demon realm are basically like ‘I’ve connected the dots!’. Mbj is very jealous and displeased, but also tlj is a full heavenly demon AND tlj had a human partner before which means it seems like by all accounts tlj would be a better suited spouse for sqh because of common interests in his writing and also because he’s successfully courted a human before and knows what humans like. Tlj thinks these rumours are hilarious and sqh is just oblivious to them or if he is aware of them thinks it’ll blow over and that only a few stupid people would ever believe those rumours (jokes on sqh, majority of the demon realm thinks it’s all but confirmed and are sitting by with metaphorical popcorn watching this ‘love triangle’ of sqh, tlj and mbj play out before their eyes)

Also it’s one thing to fight a battle and defeat the other demons into submission, but it’s a whole other thing to maintain that order for an extended period of time without needing to be personally present to maintain that order. And sure he can just let the demon realm fall into chaos and say ‘not my problem’, but giant political change and collapse like that rarely stays contained to just one place and you know something that big would leak problems into the human realm as well, which probably means Cang Qiong Mountain Sect has increased work and missions on top of losing their head of logistics that usually takes care of the sect’s basic needs like transportation for these missions, food supplies, paper, brushes, talismans, etc. Sure the Sect Leaders are powerful enough that they’d probably be fine on missions if a bit inconvenienced, but how many of their disciples would end up dead because they didn’t have the necessary equipment for the job or there was a shortage of supplies so they had to make due and ended up dead. Also what about all the supplies that the peaks don’t make themselves? If An Ding is not there or has fallen apart without guidance which person knows how to secure the yearly funds that keeps the sect running and what suppliers and merchants to contact for goods that the sect itself does not produce? How much do the peak lords of the other peaks know what is a good deal, which merchants sell faulty goods, and how to obtain rarer ingredients from shady, but consistent suppliers. Basically lbh may have a protaganist halo, but moshang have a competency halo in keeping the realms running smoothly. I feel like lbh is aware enough to know that having moshang around is better in the long run if he wants to keep living his dream of domestic bliss with sqq in their bamboo house. Or if he is not aware then if anything ever happened to moshang, he’s in for a rude awakening as is everyone else.
