my work for this year's @hamiathesgiftexchange
the prompt was gen being sneaky – and what can be sneakier than putting some flowers on your wife's head while she's not looking? ðŸ¤
finally drawing again, so here’s this weird piece
You know... I realized I never published my Hamiathes' Gift exchange from LAST YEAR (2024). Anyway, have a Costis & Aris interaction :>
Am I the only one who laughs out loud throughout the first two chapters of The King of Attolia? I know poor, dear Costis is at the worst moment of his entire life...but it's all so FUNNY. At first glance, Costis seems so serious, but he has a sense of humor about everything, even when he's facing certain death (or worse). I love reading from his point of view, and I love the way it's written.

you should talk about ambassador costis. For Me
okay so the premise of ambassador costis is that through a series of unfortunate and suspicious events, nahuseresh inherits the empire. kamet's own status rises accordingly but he is trapped by his place as a slave, by the deals he's had to make to survive in a vicious and bloodthirsty court, and of course by nahuseresh himself, who has become more paranoid and more reliant on kamet than ever. by dint of clever military tactics and also the skin of their teeth, the little peninsula is still free. mede infighting is going strong but gen knows that his road is running out. he desperately needs to buy time and somehow gum up the works that kamet is working hard every day to keep running.
enter ambassador costis. everyone is like who is this guy why did they send us this guy. and costis is like [wow the bar fights here are just as bad as back home good thing i keep winning haha] [terrible mede accent] [accidentally flirts with kamet the first time they meet] [sincerely tells a powerful aristocrat that he's sorry the current emperor killed their beloved cousin the former emperor, that's rough buddy] [sincerely admiring of kamet's administrative reforms] [sincerely admiring of kamet's translations of poetry] [funds a rebellion on his lunch break] [steals cutting edge sea clock designs and messengers them back to irene on a pigeon] [flashes his bare forearms in the library] [somehow involved with whatever laela is keeping secret] [survives death in a suspiciously familiar way] [flirts with kamet on purpose]. and meanwhile kamet is facing terrifying questions of power, freedom, control, sacrifice, and. well, you know. they do still have to run away together to survive. and costis does still have to wrestle a lion <3
THEY'RE LITERALLY SO IN LOVE AHHHHHHHHHHH
