When I was 11 I went to visit my grandparents for the summer and decided I wanted to be a vegetarian. I went home and when I told my great grandmother she laughed, hit me on the shoulder and said “Well, at least you didn’t come back gay.”… I certainly was 💀

Just the fact that to her being a vegetarian was somehow related to be a lesbian… like a “well if I had to pick one.” situation. Love her to death but what?

Watching Azura scenes back to back… fully different character design they even changed her eye colour and made her skin like 10 shades more tan (part of this is changed animation style but still)

I was rewatching the Fairytopia scenes with Azura so I have a renewed appreciation for her. She is the cool gay aunt of fairytopia.

Like haircut aside she goes out of her way to help people she perceives as “outcasts”… and like… I heard a headcannon once that her whole “friends you haven’t met yet” and table that is always set is so that kids who are disowned by their families will have a place to go. I can’t get that out of my head, because that is so absolutely something Azura would do.

A middle aged woman living in a cottage and she has this random table set for people she hasn’t met and lets the protagonist who is an outcast from society in because “she has the rainbow in her eye”

… I don’t care whether or not that’s what was intended, it fits.

Examples of Azura being the GOAT

1. Before the events of the story Dahlia betrays Laverna and she tries to join forces with the guardians who rejects her and don’t believe she’s capable of change.

- Azura goes out of her way to support Dahlia even visiting her often enough. Dahlia clearly thinks very highly of Azura.

2. Random disabled fairy with rainbow in eye shows up on her doorstep asking for help

- She brings out like a special floating flower to accommodate her

- Offers her food and drink and a place to sleep without even hearing the full story

- Trusts this stranger with one of her most important possessions because she thinks she has potential to do good (just puts her whole faith in her)

3. Is kidnapped and brought to Laverna

- Is an icon the entire time. This woman is at her finest under pressure.

4. Is asked to pick an apprentice (who will one day become a guardian in her place)

- Picks the disabled (queer?) country bumpkin (who did save the country I will say)

- Is clearly leading this project, she gives all the pre training instructions

- Put Elina and Sunburst in their places, clearly favoritism is not an obstacle keeping her from tough love

5. Elina tells everyone that Laverna has returned

- She takes the threat seriously and doesn’t laugh or mock Elina for it unlike Tourmaline (hello sir?!) even when evidence point to the contrary she takes preventive measures

6. She’s friends with the toothfairy?!

7. Calls Elina ‘my dear’ and asks her to visit for tea

To start making my fixed alphabet, I started by removing letters that I thought to be replaced easily.

The thing about languages is that they evolve over time, so sometimes letters that used to make one sound replaced by another sound or they’ll implement letters from other languages. English specifically is uses the Latin alphabet, which is also used by other languages so some letters that may work in other languages are obsolete in English.

C

“C” is perhaps the most famous example of this. “C” once represented other sounds, during certain period of it’s evolution it made sounds more similar to a “G” sound or a “ts” sound but as our language evolved we began pronouncing words with “C” differently. Today it makes 2 distinct sounds that can be replaced by other letters.

The hard “C” like in “Cat” can be replaced by a “K” (as the two sounds are indistinguishable in modern english).

The soft “C” can be replaced by a “S” as again, these sounds are indistinguishable. C doesn’t usually even make this soft sound unless it is followed by “I” or “E”.

Words like Icicle would be spelt “Isikle”.

Q

Another letter that has always bothered me is the letter “Q”. In English it doesn’t appear on it’s own and is always followed by the letter “U”. In my mind this letter has to go for my alternate alphabet. A letter that cannot appear by itself is inefficient.

The “Qu” can be replaced by “Kw” and still serve the same purpose. The extra letter is unnecessary.

X

This letter I was less sure about as some of the words do get bulky. However I came to the conclusion that X can also be replaced.

In the first place, “X” is a very uncommon letter in english. There aren’t very many words that start with “X” and the only one I can think of off the top of my head is “Xylophone” Which makes a “Z” sound.

It also can make a “k” or “ks” sound which would make words potentially longer, but since I was trying to simplify the alphabet as much as possible I decided that “X” could be replaced phonetically.

There were a few more letters or digraphs that I thought could be fixed up to remove phoenetic ambiguity but these are the three letters I thought could be replace entirely.

Here’s a list of some of rewritten words;

Hi, so a few days ago I made a post talking about squibs in the Harry Potter world and how JK Rowling doesn’t make sense and in it I mentioned how Cygnus Black was part of a child marriage and that prompted me to scour the Black Family tree for more examples…

It is deeply weird. In more way than one.

First of all; Cygnus was not the only child to have children at 13. His father Pollux also started at 13. This isn’t like a trend in the Black Family; most have children in their 20s and 30s, and the pair have siblings who have children at reasonable ages. It is completely random. Cygnus has 3 children before he finishes Hogwarts so it wasn’t like an accident or anything. I could’ve excused Pollux as a one off thing because he has Walburga but then it’s 13 years before Cygnus is born… but then Cygnus goes and has 3 children before he’s 17 so I don’t know what to think. (Especially since Alphard appears to be older, so why wouldn’t they have Alphard get married instead?? Like why did JK Rowling need to do this?)

There’s also a weird, but not impossible, trend where a bunch of Black Family members just don’t get married or have kids. In a normal family I would say that it made enough sense, but this is a family who puts having Pureblood children above everything so it doesn’t really add up. There are 8 people on the family tree who don’t have children and don’t get disowned (Granted we can cross of Sirius I and Regulus who both die young so it’s more like 6). It’s oddly progressive of a family who also at the same time thinks children are so important that they need to marry off 13 year olds??

Moving away from the topic of marriage; there’s an event that happens in 1990-1992 that I like to call “The Purge of the Parents” where all the remaining Black Family Members who aren’t imprisoned or disowned just die. Like literally, only Narcissa is left. The 5 other living Black family members die in 2 years (3 in 1992). It’s not just the Black Family either, I know Abraxas Malfoy also dies in 1992. There was just this massive genocide of an entire generation within 2 years and it’s not mentioned in the story at all. And while I’m writing this I’m starting to think JK Rowling just really hates Narcissa (“Oh Narcissa is your life going well? Well I’m gonna kill your entire family for no reason. How do you feel about that?”) There’s a massive plague or something that killed all the old people in the wizarding world; Harry was just too dumb to notice.

Unrelated to Marriage or death: Each generation has at least one trio of siblings where the second child is disowned. I like to think at some point the Black Family just collectively agreed that 3 was an unlucky number and they had to disown the middle child on principle. (Like; Alphard didn’t do anything against the family he just give Sirius some money, Cedrella still technically fulfilled the family wishes by marrying a Pureblood just not the right one: They were just looking for excuses at this point)

I’m rambling a lot so I’ll just say this; The Black Family tree is surprisingly not impossible. All the things I mentioned are plausible, but all together it makes for a very improbable and odd family tree. Honestly just leads to believe the family as a whole was incredibly unstable; possibly due to the fact that Purebloods in general are likely inbred due to breeding within the same few families for 1000 years. Also; tragedy for only Narcissa that the entire family just died out.. I get the feeling that it’s actually not… that terrible of a thing.

At the beginning of this tumblr (a few gears ago now I posted a series of rough calculations for the populations of wizarding populations across the globe based on the number that JK Rowling gave (1.1 Million Wizards in the world, 6600:1 Muggles to Wizards). I also calculated the number of children attending the identified schools. (I am in the process of digitalizing these posts because I know they’re hard to read)

Looking back my calculations were not entirely accurate because they assumed that the ratio would apply everywhere and didn’t account for societal factors. That aside, while creating them I noticed a very big problem with the number given.

Based on what I calculated then, the UK specifically had about 10 000 people in total. Recently I discovered that I was mistaken and the problem is much worse than I thought. JK Rowling stated (casually??) that there were “about 3000” Witches and Wizards in the UK.

….This is a society that has been around for a thousand years or more. In fact; a thousand years ago the British Isles had enough children to open a gigantic castle as a school. The numbers just don’t add up. Supposedly this society that marries young, and lives longer than average humans took a THOUSAND years to reach a measly 3000? No. I don’t think so. In fact, the logical idea would be that a reproducing wizarding society should have surpassed their muggle counterparts ages ago.

By contrast; it took hundreds of years for muggles to implement mandatory education, for many years we didn’t even have understanding of germs, and by all means even today there are many ailments that wizards can heal and muggles can’t. And today population trends have people marrying older and having fewer children, whereas in Wizarding society having children is still a priority.

Evolutionary speaking, muggles probably wouldn’t even exist anymore, or be a minority. Wizards in the old days had a much higher chance of survival and living to passing on their genetic information. Plus; Muggles just randomly have magical children sometimes…

Still; there are 67 Million+ People in the UK, and “about 3000” in Magical Britain.

In order to make this make some sense at all, there has to be a high percentage of squibs. Wizards can’t be having dozens of magical children that marry and have dozens more magical children; there has to be some kind of reason why there are so few magical people when they have such a better chance of having children. And yet squibs are apparently supposed to be rare.

What I’m saying is; The Weasley’s should be “The 7 magical weasley children vs those other 7 who we had to leave at the muggle orphanage” because otherwise my brain explodes.

Alternatively; Rowling should be banned from doing math because everytime she makes a flippant comment like “about 3000” she inadvertently makes either 1. A world that just doesn’t make sense or 2. Gives me a nightmare about a literal hellscape where apparently the world is filled with abandoned squibs that no one talks about (or Harry’s too dumb to notice) and where Cygnus Black was apparently a victim of child marriage (unrelated; he was born in 1938, Bellatrix was born in ‘51 you do the math).

PS: I am well aware that thinking too deeply about a children’s series where kids do magic, fight evil wizards, and go on adventures is a very silly thing to do; but I don’t seem to have an off button and this has been floating around in my mind for a few years now it was gonna come out eventually. So you TAKE my word vomit.

So I see A lot of hate in the fandom for Irina Denali. I think this is unjustified lemme tell you why;

First; people blame her for abandoning the Cullens in Eclipse. I would like to point out that this was the entire Denali clans decision not just Irina, she couldn’t make a decision for the entire coven especially since she isn’t the leader. Let me show you how it looks from the Denali’s perspective; Laurent is a vampire, even if the Denali are vegetarians they weren’t for a long time and they probably don’t think badly on non-vegetarian vampires just like the Cullens don’t, it is natural for vampires to prey on humans. 2. The Denali respect the law. The Cullens do not, and their refusal to follow the law is ultimately what started this whole mess in the first place. 3. The Denali agree to help the Cullens if the Cullens help them get revenge. The Cullens do not agree, therefore they basically say “If you don’t help us we won’t help you”.

To summarize: Bella is a human, by the law she should be turned or killed and as long as she’s human the Cullens are breaking the law. And many of the Cullens (ex: Rosalie and Edward) plan on continuing to do this. Laurent would be following the law by killing Bella, and he would be following his natural instincts as a vampire. Laurent wouldn’t have attempted if the Cullens had turned Bella like they were supposed to. So from their perspective, Laurent was unjustifiably killed and the Cullens are to blame. They ask the Cullens to rectify this by stepping aside and allowing them to take revenge on what the Denali see as an inhuman species which hate vampires for being vampires and are therefore their natural enemies to begin with. They even throw a cherry on top and say; “Hey if you let us do this, we will turn a blind eye to your law breaking and help you keep your human alive.” The Cullens refuse and still have the audacity to ask whether they will be helped. The Denali make the decision to let the Cullens deal with their own problems. The Cullens refuse to help the Denali in what they see as justifiable revenge so why should the Denali help the Cullens.

THEN, the Cullens have a hybrid child. This is not against the law, and in fact if they had went to the Volturi with this the Volturi wouldn’t have punished them for it. The Cullens have not broken the law in this, and in fact hybrids are better at keeping the secret than regular vampires because they are closer to human. The Volturi may have wanted to observe Renesmee as they did with the immortal children before outlawing them but would have ultimately failed to claim Renesmee as an immortal child because of her incredible self control and growth rate. So far, the only real gripe the Volturi had with the Cullens is their refusal to turn Bella human which they have now done as promised.

They don’t do this. So when Irina goes to FIX things with the Cullens she see what she believes can only be an immortal child, something that is not only illegal but something she has a personal history with. This is it, to Irina the Cullens have crossed a line with or without Laurent. In this, Irina is the responsible one who goes and informs the Volturi that the law has been broken.

(also I want to reiterate that a rational person would not have gone down to “give the Cullens as chance to explain” the world doesn’t know about hybrids. From Irina’s perspective the Cullens have broken the law in the worst possible way and created an immortal child. Going down to say “Hey I know you broke the law” to group of seven vampires would be signing her death warrant. When Irina discovers the truth she apologizes for the misunderstanding and takes full responsibility for her actions.)

And what do the Cullens do when they find out the Volturi think they have an immortal child? Not smooth over the misunderstanding, they choose to amass an army. The whole reason the Volturi show up is because the Cullens have not only broken the law, but are actively challenging their rule. THIS COULD ALL HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE CULLENS INFORMED THE VOLTURI.

So then, Irina is executed. But only on false information that was fed to her accidentally by the Cullens. And because the Volturi needed to show that there would be repercussions for amassing an army. Irina couldn’t possibly have known the truth about Renesmee.

Everything that happens to the Denali is the Cullens fault. And if I were the Volturi, I would wipe out the Cullen clan at the first chance because they do not respect the law or understand the full scope of their actions, and in fact they’ve gotten away with a lot simply through Carlisle’s friendship with Aro.
