Plastic ring/ Lane Fostman x F!Reader| OS
Synopsis: A not-so-date at the mall turns into a joke proposal when Lane wins a cheap plastic ring and slips it onto her finger.
Notes: this is based on my this post please check it out :D—-https://www.tumblr.com/azulzyh/824306534521700352/okay-hear-me-out-imagine-lane-winning-a-plastic
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
It wasn’t a date. Lane had made that clear approximately six times. Which was interesting, considering he’d been the one to ask if you were doing anything after work. And he’d been the one who suggested that doing something because he needed break. And of course, he’d been the one who, after you’d pointed out that two people voluntarily spending their evening together sounded suspiciously like a date, had looked at you like you’d said something genuinely offensive.
“It’s called hanging out.”
“Right.”
“People do it.”
“Mhm.. l know.”
“Without wanting to fuck each other.”
You looked at him reallllyyy deeply and Lane stared back then he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets like a kid getting caught stealing from an drug store.
“Shut up.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“Your face did.”
After you smiled at his remark, Lane rolled his eyes and walked ahead of you to his car.
So.
Not a date.
Definitely.
Nope! Not at all…
Lane barely reacted, one hand loose on the steering wheel. The radio was playing something low enough that neither of you had to talk over it. He’d picked you up without giving you much of a plan beyond get in, and you’d learned by now that asking Lane what he wanted to do usually resulted in some version of I don’t know, whatever.
Which was exactly what happened ten minutes earlier.
“So where are we going?”
“Out.”
“Okay but where?”
“I don’t know.”
“You asked me to come, lane.”
“Yeah.”
“So you had a plan if you asked me to come.”
“Nahh.”
“Lane.”
“Yeah? Practicing your bedroom speech?”
“You can’t invite someone somewhere and not know where somewhere is and yes, l’m ignoring that.”
“Apparently I can.”
“That’s horrible planning.”
“Well you’re still here so l’m doing something right.”
You’d stared at him. Lane was smirking knowingly then slowly, he’d smiled. Genuinely.
Not nicely.
That little crooked smile that meant he knew he’d gotten you.
You turned away before he could see you smiling back. Now, twenty minutes later, he’d somehow ended up driving toward the mall. You noticed before he said anything.
“The mall?”
Lane glanced toward you then checking the mirror.
“You got a problem with the mall?”
“No.”
“Then why’d you say it like that?”
“Like what?”
“The mall?” he mocked, pitching his voice higher. Mimicking you.
“I don’t fucking sound like that.”
“You do.” He mocked again mimicking.
“I literally don’t.”
“You literally do.”
“You’re so-”
“And before you say it,” he interrupted, “still not a date.”
You stared at him. What?? What is he on about- how old is he really, you question him more than people question a religion.
“You’re the only person who keeps bringing that up.”
Lane’s fingers tightened slightly around the steering wheel. Ouch that hit him somewhere.
“No I’m not dude.”
“You are Lane.”
“You said it first.”
“Like twenty minutes ago.”
“Still counts.”
“Why are you so scared of the word date? You should be the master of it by the way you talk.”
“Yeah l am one already. Been there done that multiple times with every kind, l’m not scared of that shit.”
“Sounds like you are.”
Lane looked at you like he was annoyed.
“Keep talking like that and l’m leaving babe.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Watch me.”
“You’ve already wasted gas.”
“…Fuck.”
You laughed.
“That’s what I thought.”
He reached over without looking and shoved lightly at the side of your head.
“Ow!”
“Didn’t even hurt, drama queen.”
“You hit me.”
“You call that shit a ‘hit’?”
“I’m calling the police.”
“Tell ’em your boyfriend hit you and watch em ignore you.”
Your mouth snapped shut immediately and Lane’s did too.
There was a beat, you slowly turned your head towards to Lane slowly.
Lane stared straight ahead.
“Boyfriend?”
“I said don’t call it a date, dude. Jesus woman can’t even take jokes.”
“That’s not what you said.”
“Shut up.”
“You just called yourself my-”
“Yo, do you wanna walk?”
Lane turned the radio up.
“Don’t think much into this stuff, don’t get your hopes up babe.”
Conversation over.
Apparently.
Whenever you both pushed for the limits, Lane was the one pulling it back. The seriousness of ot scared him. Unlike him it made you smile but ignore.
You spent the rest of the drive staring out the window with a smile he absolutely noticed and absolutely refused to acknowledge.
—————————————————————————
The mall wasn’t particularly busy. It was one of those lazy afternoons where half the people walking around seemed like they had nowhere better to be. Teenagers occupied every bench. Parents dragged children between stores. Somewhere nearby, something smelled overwhelmingly like cinnamon. Lane walked beside you with his hands buried in his pockets.
“So what are we doing?” you asked.
“Walking, babe.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah, wild.”
“Glad I got dressed for this.”
Lane’s eyes flicked over you. It happened quickly checking you out, eyes landing on your legs especially. So quickly you might’ve missed it if you hadn’t already been looking at him.
Down.
Up.
Then away.
“You didn’t have to.”
You raised an eyebrow a bit comfused.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“No, what?”
“Nothing, you’re imagining things like usual baby.”
“You looked at me.”
“People generally look at each other. You’re a girl you should know that.”
“You looked at my clothes, Lane.”
“I’m a man.”
“Do you like them?”
Lane groaned.
“Don’t do this bullshit to me right now woman.”
“Do you?”
“They’re clothes.”
“Lane.”
“What do you want me to say?”
He made his voice high pitched, “Oh you look so hot babe, especially love when girls show off their shaved legs! I’m not into wookiees after all.”
“You could say I look nice.” Atleast… and what- a wookiee?? You ignored that remark for your sanity.
“Why?”
“Because I do??”
That got a laugh out of him.
“At least you’re humble.”
“I spent time getting ready.”
“Right and l had to wait 20 minutes for you to go upstairs and dress up for what again? Oh right for the non-date.”
You stopped walking.
Lane took another step before noticing. He turned around, did he fucked up? He’s been on edge yeah l mean- what is he even doing-
You folded your arms.
Shit.
“Yo, chill out with the tantrums. You on your period?”
That earned him a slap on the arm. Great. You reacted, it means he didn’t fucked up. Yet.
He stopped so suddenly you nearly walked into him. You looked up at him comfused. He looked down at you for a while almost as if he wanted to say something.
There was a long, irritated silence. Until lane spoke up
“Yeah.”
You blinked.
Lane’s jaw tightened but he didn’t stop.
“You look- beautiful nice.”
Your smile immediately appeared. It reached to your eyes, shining like stars over a compliment.
He noticed and pointed at you.
“Don’t.”
“I didn’t even said anything Lane-
“Don’t fucking smile like that.”
“Like what?”
“Uhh, Like-“
He gestured vaguely at your face.
“That.”
“You think my smile is nice too?”
“Nah, l was pointing for you to wash your teeth.”
(If you wear braces, “l was pointing at the dirt on your iron chunks”)
He turned around.
You laughed, catching up again.
“Thank you.”
“Thank me in other ways-“
Slap.
Yeah, he’s still lane. And he still thinks you’re beautiful.
—————————————————————————
You wandered around for nearly an hour. You stopped in stores neither of you intended to buy anything from mainly because of budget and lane’s yapping about it. Lane picked up increasingly ugly things and asked whether they’d look good on him. At one point, he held up a neon green shirt.
“Yo, what about this?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“You’d look like a highlighter.”
“Hot.”
“No.”
“A hot highlighter.”
“No.”
“You’re controlling, babe.”
“I’m protecting you.”
“Same shit.”
Another store.
A pair of sunglasses that Lane put them on. They were enormous and ugly. (Like those big square ones rappers used to wear)
You stared.
He stared back through purple lenses.
“Well?”
“You look ridiculous.”
“Jealous.”
“Of what?”
“My natural charisma.” He then proceeded to make poses with his hands.
“You look like somebody’s divorced aunt.”
He immediately took them off.
“Fuck you.”
You laughed so hard that the employee behind the counter looked over. Lane put the sunglasses back.
“Actually, I’m buying these now.”
“Lane, No.”
“Can’t control me.”
“Please don’t.”
He smirked.
“Beg.”
“Lane.”
“Say please.” He was now lowering himself. “Say pretty please— though l accept if you wanna ‘please’ me in non-vocal ways.”
“…”
You walked away.
He followed you, still wearing the glasses.
“Come back.”
“No.”
“You’re abandoning me.”
“I don’t know you.”
“Of course you know this handsome face. Don’t be shy on me now, though l like em shy too.”
He eventually put them back. Not because you’d won though. According to handsome face it was because they were “overpriced bullshit.”
Obviously.
Yeah, right.
—————————————————————————
After walking around the arcade caught his attention when you were halfway toward the food court. You didn’t notice immediately, you were telling him something when you realized his responses had stopped.
“So then she tells me—— Lane?”
Nothing. VERY unusual for lane. So You turned immediately, He was five feet behind you. Looking through the arcade entrance.
You followed his gaze. Then looked back at him once it clicked!
“Oh my God.”
“What?”
“You wanna go in.”
“No, but in you? Sure as hell ba-”
“You stopped walking.” Completely ignoring the bullshit he was about to say to distract you from the situation. A classic.
“I was just looking.”
“At the arcade.”
“Yeah?”
“Because you wanna go inside.”
Lane shrugged.
“Could. I look at you too, you know.”
God… it’s kinda amazing how hw can come up with such things to say immediately without a thought- which kinda supports your theory of him having no brain.
“You wanna play games.”
“Don’t say it like I’m fucking eight.”
“You wanna play games.”
“Yeah, I’m leaving.”
He walked into the arcade. Which immediately made you follow him with a victory smile.
“That’s the opposite direction of leaving.”
“Leave me alone control freak.”
The second you were inside, he changed.
Barely. Kinda. Anyone else probably wouldn’t have noticed. Lane still looked bored, still walked around like nothing particularly impressed him, still made comments about everything being overpriced. But he examined every machine.
Every. Single. One.
He watched somebody play a racing game for nearly thirty seconds before pretending he’d only stopped because you had. He spent two dollars on basketball and immediately demanded a rematch after you beat him.
“You cheated.”
“How do you cheat at basketball?- You’re even fucking taller!”
(If you’re taller than him thn “Just because you’re shorter, doesn’t mean l cheated Lane. Go increase your milk intake than redbull.”)
“You distracted me.”
“I was standing there.”
“Exactly.”
“What does that mean?”
“Don’t worry about it, it wasn’t the ball that was the only thing bouncing off.”
SLAP!
“OW- but hey ya know, I like every type of ball and l’m good with em all-“
SLAP! X2
Then came the claw machine. You should’ve kept walking but Instead, you stopped beside him. The machine was filled with small stuffed animals. Bears, cats, rabbits.
And one little dog.
You pointed through the glass.
“That one’s cute.”
Lane looked at the dog you pointed with an unimpressed look.
“The dog?”
“Yeah.”
“Looks stupid.”
“He’s cute.”
“His eyes are fucked up, maybe yours too.”
(If you’re wearing glasses then “His eyes are fucked up, and you should reschedule an appointment to get yours checked again.”)
“That’s why he’s cute.”
“You have terrible taste- well, besides liking me.”
“You invited me out.”
Lane glanced at you, oh well.
“…Fair.”
Then walked toward another machine. A minute later, you realized Lane wasn’t following so you turned around and he was feeding money into the claw machine. Tjat got you curious as you walked back towards him.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing.”
“Yeahh, right. You put money in that thing Lane. I saw it!”
“Observant, hot.”
“You said it was stupid.”
“It is.”
The claw moved. His words and actions mads no sense, so does the now moving claw machine. Lane concentrated. Hard.
You looked from him to the machine curiously.
The claw dropped, straight toward the dog. It grabbed one ear.
Lifted.
The toy rose approximately two inches before falling.
Lane stared through the glass holding himself from hitting the glass.
You bit your lip.
“Don’t.”
You immediately laughed.
“Don’t fucking start.”
“You were trying to get the dog!”
“Pfft-No.”
“You were!”
“I wasn’t.”
“You aimed directly at him!”
“Machine’s fucked, so does your delusions.”
“You were trying to win it for me.”
“Give me what you are on, shit must be strong if you’re thinking like that.”
“Are you done?”
He groaned putting more money in.
“Lane.”
“What now?”
“You don’t have to win it.”
“I’m not trying to win it.”
“Okay.”
Another attempt, the dog fell.
“Fuck!”
“Holy shit, rigged as fuck! Fatzo dog, get a ED!”
You leaned against the machine.
“How much have you spent?”
“None of your business, let the man spend his hard earnings.”
“Hard my ass, wasn’t that your fifth try?”
“…Maybe.”
“You could literally buy me a stuffed animal.”
“Who said this is for you? Stop smoking.”
You stared.
Lane looked back.
“Maybe I want it.”
He said, like he genuinely believed that?
“You want the puppy?”
“Yeah.”
“For yourself…”
“Yeah.”
“Because he’s cute…?”
“Don’t push it.”
You covered your mouth, laughing. This is gold!
Lane tried again.
Failed.
Again.
Failed.
Finally he stepped away.
“Rigged.”
“You said that before you started.”
“Yeah, because it is.”
“Poor dog got even fat shamed…”
“Deserved, it was ugly too.”
“You could’ve bought-”
“It wasn’t for you.”
Righttttt. You nodded solemnly.
“Sorry. I forgot YOU wanted the puppy.”
Lane started walking away.
“Go fuck yourself.”
You followed, still laughing. Unlucky, he failed to show (flex) his skills with claw machine- or did he?
—————————————————————————
The plastic ring came ten minutes later. You’d moved to one of those stupid timing games. A circle of lights flashed around a button and Lane stared at it, with a smirk forming on his face quickly.
“Easy.”
“You said that about basketball.”
“You cheated that one.”
“And the claw machine?”
“Rigged and the dog is fat.”
“So what’s your excuse gonna be for this one?”
Lane looked at you, already knowing the answer to that question.
“You.”
“Me?”
“Yeah.”
“…How?”
“Haven’t decided yet.”
He put a coin in and the lights started. Lane pressed the button.
Miss.
“Wow, professional gamer by the way.”
That made him irritated and full focus.
Third try.
Miss.
“Do you need me to-”
“Don’t fucking touch it.”
Oh he is taking this way too seriously, like a 1v1 with a guy t-bagged his ass on a ranked.
You laughed. It was almost cute.
Fourth try.
The light stopped exactly where it needed to and the machine erupted into a horrible victory tune. Lane threw both hands up.
“FUCK YEAH! TAKE THAT CLANKER!!!”
The prize compartment clicked. Lane crouched down.
“Let’s see what this piece of shit gave me.”
He pulled out a little capsule, Opened it. Which followed by an heavy silence. Then his face changed. You knew immediately.
“No.”
Lane looked at you.
“No.”
His grin widened.
“Lane.”
He held up the ring. It was a cheap silver-colored plastic. Huge fake red jewel. It looked like something you’d get from a vending machine at six years old.
“Oh, this is fucking perfect.”
“No.”
“What?”
“Whatever you’re thinking.”
“Oh baby, I’m not thinking anything.”
“You’re smiling.”
“Can’t smile now?”
“Not like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like you’re about to embarrass me and make me regret my life choices.”
Lane examined the ring, then looked at you.
Then-
he got down on one knee.
You gasped.
“LANE.”
A couple walking past looked over. Kids that were playing near the area was already looking after he won something- thanks to that stupid victory song!
Lane grabbed your hand.
You immediately tried pulling it away.
“No. No, no, no.”
“Hold still.”
“Get up!”
He started laughing as you could feel your face getting hot.
“Lane!”
“Wait.”
“No!”
He cleared his throat dramatically. You covered your face with your free hand getting ready- or preparing yourself to what was about to happen.
“Don’t do this.”
“Will you-”
“Oh my God.”
“—make me the happiest man-”
“People are LOOKING.”
“Shh, don’t interrupt.”
“I’m leaving.”
He tightened his grip on your hand, not letting you go.
“—and agree to tolerate me until one of us dies?”
“No.”
“Wow.”
“Get up.”
“Didn’t even let me finish.”
“I know what you’re doing!”
“You don’t know shit. Classic woman behavior acting like she knows everything.”
“LANE.”
He finally stood and you immediately looked around. The couple was still watching, the kids too though they got distracted. Lane noticed and he gave them a little nod.
“She said yes.”
“I DID NOT.”
They laughed as you smacked his arm.
“You are the worst person I’ve ever met.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Then he grabbed your hand again. Not caring even a bit.
“Give me this.”
Your fingers curled. He pushed the ring onto your finger. It was slightly too loose… You stared at it, Lane stared too. For some reason, neither of you spoke for a second. Then he smirked.
“There.”
“What?”
You were too dumb founded to react.
“Don’t ever say I never bought you anything.”
You looked at him like he’s the dumbest thing.
“You didn’t buy this.”
“Cost money.”
“You won it.”
“With money.”
“That’s not the same thing.”
“Sounds the same.” He shrugged.
“You spent four dollars trying to win a plastic ring?”
“Five.”
You blinked.
“Five?”
“Inflation.”
“Lane.”
“What?”
“You specifically kept playing because you wanted this?”
He hesitated.
Well-
Barely.
“No.”
“You did.”
“Didn’t know what the prize was.”
“The rings were literally displayed on the machine.”
“Didn’t look.”
“You were staring at them.”
“You’re making shit up.”
You looked down at the ring- yeah, it was stupid. Ridiculously stupid. Yet, you smiled anyway. And lane noticed, of course he did.
His expression immediately became smug.
“Ohhh.”
“What?”
“You like it.”
“No.”
“You fucking like it.”
“I don’t.”
“Look at you.”
“Look at what?”
“Smiling at it.”
“I’m laughing because it’s ugly.”
“Sure, you fucking want me so bad look at you.”
“It’s horrible.”
“Take it off then.”
Your fingers went to the ring but Lane’s hand immediately closed over yours. You looked up as he looked down at your hands. Then seemed to realize what he’d done. He immediately let go.
“Don’t lose it.”
You raised an eyebrow to tjat.
“You just told me to take it off.”
“Yeah, well. Don’t lose it after.”
“Why?”
“Because I spent five fucking dollars on that.”
“Over five dollars.”
“Yeah. Money tight baby.”
You looked at it again. Lane shoved his hands into his pockets.
“Expensive wife.”
Your head snapped up immediately.
“What?”
He started walking away.
“You heard me. Man it’s hard to maintain a wife.”
“We are not married.”
“You accepted the ring.”
“You forced it onto my finger.”
“Don’t care, still wearing it.”
“Lane.”
He glanced over his shoulder.
“Wifey.”
You chased him halfway across the arcade.
—————————————————————————
The ring should have stopped being funny by the next day. Instead, it became a problem. Because you wore it to work, Not intentionally! Well… At least, that was what you told yourself. You’d left it beside your keys overnight. In the morning, you’d picked up your keys. Then the ring. You’d stared at it, you could’ve left it there. Which you almost did. Instead, you’d slipped it onto your finger. Just because it was funny. That was all. Nothing else. You definitely hadn’t wondered whether Lane would notice. You definitely hadn’t thought about his stupid face when he did and you definitely hadn’t smiled when you put it on. You arrived at work before him which gave you enough time to forget about it. Then Lane walked in. Hair a mess, expression miserable and energy drink already in hand.
He looked like he’d slept for approximately twenty minutes.
“Morning.”
“Fuck off.”
“Good morning to you too.”
He walked past you-
Stopped.
Walked backward.
You looked up.
“What?”
Lane was staring at your hand.
You followed his gaze.
Oh.
The ring.
His eyes lifted slowly.
“What the fuck.”
“What?”
You’re wearing it.”
You looked at your hand as if it was nothing.
“Oh.”
“Oh?”
“I forgot.”
“Bullshit.”
“What?”
“You forgot?”
“Yeah.”
“You weren’t wearing it when I dropped you off.”
“I put it on this morning and forgot.”
Lane stared at you.
Then-
slowly..
his mouth curled into the cockiest smile you’d ever seen.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Lane.”
“Nothing, babe.”
Your eyes narrowed and he came closer. You immediately stepped back. It didn’t stopped him, he followed.
“Who’s the lucky guy?”
“Lane.”
“Must be pretty serious.”
“Stop.”
“Look at that rock.”
“It’s plastic.”
“Don’t talk about my financial situation like that.”
You covered your face.
“Please.”
“What?”
“Don’t do this all day.”
Lane grabbed your wrist. He held your hand up, examined the ring. Then nodded approvingly.
“Yeah.”
“What?”
“Looks good.”
You blinked. What the fuck? For half a second, his voice had sounded normal.
No joke.
No stupid grin.
Just…
Looks good.
You stared at him.
Lane realized.
His expression changed immediately.
“Obviously.”
There it was.
“Guy who picked it has great taste.”
You rolled your eyes.
“There he is.”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Lane was still holding your wrist and neither of you acknowledged it. Then he looked at the ring again.
“Yo.”
“What now?”
“Who is the lucky bastard that got you wifed up?”
You pulled your hand away.
“Some loser.”
Lane nodded.
“Sounds hot.”
“Extremely annoying.”
“Still hot.”
“Poor.”
“Okay, fuck you.”
You laughed.
Lane followed you toward the back.
“So what’s his name?”
“Don’t know.”
“You married a guy whose name you don’t know?”
“It was a mistake.”
“Wow.”
“I was young.”
“This happened yesterday.”
“I’ve grown.”
“You’re gonna hurt the kids.”
You stopped walking. The ???
“The what?”
Lane’s face remained completely serious.
“The kids.”
“What kids?”
“Our kids.”
“We don’t have children.”
“Not with that attitude.”
“Oh my God. Stop with MILF stuff it’s gross.”
Lane walked past you.
“Can’t believe I married a deadbeat.”
You stared after him.
“YOU proposed!”
He turned around.
“Yeah, and look where that got me.”
—————————————————————————
By lunch, you were regretting everything. Not the ring but wearing it around Lane. Because he had discovered a joke and, like a dog with a dead animal, refused to let it go.
“Wifey, you seen my charger?”
“Stop calling me that.”
“Just asking a question.”
“My name isn’t Wifey.”
“Government says otherwise.”
“What government?”
“Ours.”
“Who is ours?”
“The one recognizing our marriage.”
“You said seven states yesterday.”
“Eight now.”
“Oh, congratulations.”
“Thanks.”
Twenty minutes later:
“Can you move?”
“Wow.”
“What?”
“Ordering your husband around.”
“You’re blocking the drawer.”
“Marriage changes people.”
“Move.”
“Used to be nice to me.”
“I have never been nice to you.”
“Exactly.”
Another twenty minutes.
“Lane, can you grab that?”
He stared at you.
“What?”
“Can you hand me that?”
“Don’t know.”
“Don’t know what?”
“If I should.”
“Why?”
“Feels like husband labor. It’s wife’s job to help the husband.”
You closed your eyes.
“Lane.”
“Yeah?”
“Please.”
He immediately handed it to you. Then leaned closer.
“Anything for my beautiful mad wife.”
You shoved him away and he laughed so hard he nearly dropped his drink. Eventually, you’d had enough.
“Oh my God, Lane, you’re disgusting.”
He barely looked up.
“You knew that when you married me.”
There.
That fucking line again.
You stared at him then at your ring.
Lane noticed and his eyes narrowed.
“What are you doing?”
You slowly grabbed the ring.
“No.”
Clearly NOT that.
Your eyebrows went up.
“No?”
“Don’t.”
“Why?”
Lane pointed at you.
“Don’t do whatever stupid shit you’re thinking, wifey.”
You smiled angrily then pulled the ring off.
“We’re divorced now.”
Silence.
Actual silence.
Lane stared at your hand, then at your face.
Then back at your hand.
“…What?”
“We’re divorced.”
“What do you mean?”
“I took the ring off.”
“Then put it back.”
You burst out laughing while his face hardened.
“Why are you laughing? You’re killing us right now.”
“Your FACE.”
“What’s wrong with my face? It’s the same handsome face you married yesterday.”
“You look genuinely offended.”
“I am because my wife is being difficult than obedient.”
Before you could speal-
“you’re gonna lose it.”
You slipped it into your pocket.
“There.”
Lane watched the movement.
“Happy?”
“No.”
The answer came too quickly.
“I mean—whatever.”
“Lane, are you upset that I divorced you?”
“No because l’m not signing papers, gold digger.”
“You are.”
Lane turned away.
“Yeah, whatever. I’ll tell the kids.”
That made it worse. You had to grab the counter.
“What are you gonna tell them?”
“The truth.”
“Which is?”
“Their mother walked out.”
“I’M STANDING RIGHT HERE.”
“She abandoned us.”
“???????”
“Probably for some rich guy.”
You wiped at your eyes.
“I’m actually gonna die.”
“Hope he makes you happy.”
“Who?”
“Your new husband.”
“I don’t have one.”
“Yet.”
“Are you jealous of an imaginary man?”
Lane turned around immediately.
“You wish. Already wishing that?”
“You invented him!”
“I hope he’s got a big house.”
You stared as Lane continued whatever he was imagining now.
“Good job. Dental insurance.”
“Lane.”
“Hope he buys you a real ring.”
You smiled wanting to annoy him now it’s not like anyone was in the store around immediately.
“You wish. Already wishing that?”
“You invented him!”
“I hope he’s got a big house.”
You stared as Lane continued whatever he was imagining now.
“Good job. Dental insurance.”
“Lane.”
“Hope he buys you a real ring.”
You smiled wanting to annoy him now it’s not like anyone was in the store around this hour anyway!
“Ohhh.”
“What?”
“You are jealous.”
“The fuck? I’m not.”
“You are!”
“Why would I be jealous?”
“Because I’m marrying someone else.”
“We’re not actually fucking married!”
“Oh so now we’re not actually married.”
After that he shut up pretty fast which led you to stop teasing him. You reached into your pocket and his eyes immediately dropped toward your hand.
“You want me to put it back?”
“You’re digging around in your pocket like a fucking raccoon.”
You pulled the ring out and Lane glanced again. You held it between two fingers to tease him.
“This?”
“Ugly.”
“You picked it.”
“Was drunk. Arcade lights fucked with my brain.”
You moved it toward your finger andLane watched like a hawk. Then you stopped just before putting it on. His eyes narrowed.
“You’re fucking annoying.”
You laughed. “Say you want me to wear it.”
“Nah got plenty girls lined up. Hope your finger turns green anyway.”
Are you actually mad?”
“Nah.”
“Then come here.”
“Nah.”
You stared and he stared somewhere over your shoulder. You almost, ALMOST laughed again. But then after seeing him sulking made you stop your tracks. you noticed something.
He really was sulking.
Not seriously upset.
Not genuinely hurt.
But there was something underneath the joke that hadn’t been there before. Something he didn’t seem particularly interested in examining.
You walked toward him.
“What?”
You held your hand out.
He looked at it, then at you.
“Give me the ring.”
He slid it back onto your finger. His shoulders relaxed just slightly.
Lane looked at his hand around your wrist.
He didn’t let go this time.
“You care about the ring, Lane.”
“Duh, Five dollars.”
“You care that I’m wearing it.”
“You’re gonna lose it that’s all.”
“Then why are you.. l don’t know having the expression, the same one when you won the ring?”
“Maybe, maybe l did won something.”
As quickly as he said that he immediately end it with.
“Don’t read too much into it. You’ll only get disappointed.”
“Well.. you disappointed me in this marriage already anyway.”
He smirked, almost grateful.
“Like how baby? Ohh, l get it. What do you want, a ceremony? Expensive wife.”
“Will you stop with that?”
“Let’s see.. how about no?”
You both laughed and joked over the stupidity of the whole thing but Lane got a bit serious when he asked “Don’t take it off though, looks good on you.” Then after getting embarrassed for saying that he hit it with “Wouldn’t want to traumatize the kids again.” You had so many questions. You almost asked. Why do you actually care? Why did he care whether you wore some worthless ring? Why had he noticed immediately? Why had he looked genuinely pleased when you put it back on? Why had he spent money trying to win it in the first place? Why had he—
As if he could tell what you were thinking about he did the most Lane thing possible.
Lane suddenly lifted your hand.
Then he pressed the world’s most obnoxiously exaggerated kiss against the plastic gemstone.
You recoiled hitting him and chasing him around the store.
Yes, Lane was still the one holding the strings, always knowing exactly how far he could pull before something between them snapped. At least, that was what he liked to believe. He could turn everything into a joke. Marriage, divorce, jealousy, anything that got a little too close to meaning something. He could laugh first, roll his eyes, pretend none of it mattered as long as she laughed with him. But the stupid ring stayed on finger. And every time his eyes drifted toward it, there was that brief, almost imperceptible softness he would never admit to. Maybe that was the problem. Lane had always been good at pushing things right up to the line and stopping before he had to call them what they were. He just hadn’t realized that somewhere along the way, he’d tied himself to the other end of it too.And for someone who insisted he could let go whenever he wanted, his grip had only gotten tighter.

ONG I CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS POST HAVE SO MANY MISTYPO IM SO SORRY SO SO SORRY GUYS BUT I'M ALREADY OB MY BED AND I DON'T FEEL LIKE CORRECTING ANYTHING
I know it's pretty stupid but hear me out.
One time BB was out of his house for so long, that a pigeon thought it was a quiet place where to build a nest since he forgot to close his window. BB didn't have heart to kick Lady out of his house, especially when he saw that she had eggs without a patner. Because of that, he kinda felt to step in and try to take good care of her and her kids. Though, the eggs weren't fertalized so she have never had babies (BB was kind of sad about it), but she continued to live in his peaceful living room

hi peeps 🌻
I wanted to post a small PSA today for people who are like me and play a lot of indie visual novels, because this has become a pretty annoying problem lately:
if you google an indie game and come across some weird website claiming to host it (as seen in the image I provided), offer downloads, walkthroughs, guides for endings and character routes that don't even exist yet, or basically pretending to be an official page when it very obviously isn’t—please don’t use it.
a lot of these websites are pure AI slop made by scammers/ content farms. they scrape information, screenshots, descriptions, walkthroughs, characters, etc. from actual creators, then use generative AI to churn out cheap copies and fake articles pages around them.
the biggest problem is that they also abuse SEO so their garbage sometimes shows up surprisingly high in Google results. indie devs rely a lot on word of mouth and people finding their games organically, so these sites are basically trying to hijack that traffic and redirect clicks, ad revenue and potential players away from the people who actually made the game.
and this isn't just happening to one game. indie VNs are an easy target because smaller creators obviously don't have giant companies constantly monitoring search results for them.
I've already reported 13 different fake websites involving TFC, and unfortunately there are still more out there :')
so if you see one of these sites, the best thing you can do is not click around on it, don't download anything from it, and definitely don't share the link as a source. go through the creator's actual itch.io, Steam, Patreon, Tumblr, Carrd, etc. instead.
you can also report scam/spam pages to Google so they can potentially be removed or pushed out of search results.
and honestly, please spread the word when you see this happening to an indie game. a lot of players probably have no idea these websites are fake in the first place, especially when they're deliberately designed to look legitimate.
support the actual weird little human beings making your weird little games, not the SEO sludge machine stealing their work 😭
thank you 🙏
That's gay.

And they certainly aren’t mute either
I imagine that being around Ana makes them attract even more attention because of Ana’s reputation and natural irresistible allure making her the focus wherever she goes so seeing those monsters hang around her causes strong and negative reactions
