βHey Dad, Lexiβs having a party at her place tomorrow. Would it be alright if I go check it out?β Gray leaned against the doorway, hands in his pockets.

Hearing his son's voice, Tony looked up from his computer screen without moving his head, his gaze peering over the top of his glasses. Then he took the glasses off, set them aside and gave Grayson his undivided attention. "Who's Lexi? Do I know her?" he asked, hoping he didn't or he was about to look like a pretty bad dad for not remembering. "Sure, I don't see why not. No drugs, no alcohol, don't do anything I would do, and take Happy with you. You know the drill."
Did a teenager want to take a grown man with him as his plus one to a friend's party? Hell no. Tony knew that. But he also knew there were probably any number of people just waiting for a chance to do any number of things with an unattended son of Tony Stark, too...
Tony's nose scrunched a bit as he tried to remember. "Oh yeah! I do remember the Shakespeare thing. That went down pretty well, as I recall, didn't it?" He moved over just a bit as Grayson leaned on his desk and peered at the computer screen. On it was a complicated mess of what looked like design blueprints for something that he'd been editing. Looking over at Dum-E tried to fumble out a clumsy head scritch on poor Sandy, Tony pointed. "Hey, gently," he said to the robot.
"No, not just to drop you off," Tony immediately caught. "You never know what could go wrong at these kinds of things." Or what kinds of shady characters could show up, just waiting for an opportunity to do something terrible. "If something happens, I want you to have someone there who can help. Besides, Happy's... you know, he... he can get down with the best of 'em, he'll fit right in." His dancing was... interesting, but it wasn't terrible. "I just want you to be safe, Gray. Okay?"
"I pulled off a pretty great Lysander, if I do say so myself. And Lexi was pretty... wow, as Hermia, too." The boy agreed, cheeks flushing slightly as his eyes fixated on the computer screen. He couldn't quite make out what his Dad was working on, but that wasn't really what he was focusing on, anyways.
He saw Tony turn out of the corner of his eyes, and his own gaze naturally followed. An amused smile tugged at his lips; Sandy was just laying there without complaint as Dum-E gave her one of the most enthusiastic head rubs of her life. The robot's claws popped up briefly with Tony's instruction, head tilting before he let out a resigned whir. When he lowered his claws once more, the head rubbing had shifted more into an awkward but gentle, tapping-pinch motion.
No. Well, it had been worth a try. Gray's head rolled back and he released a groan of his own. "Daad." Okay, maybe that response was a bit immature. Probably not the best approach to an argument. It was easy to think of a few things that could go wrong. Growing up in the environment he had, he was familiar with risk. Numerous scenarios had already been gnawing at him. But he was also getting older, and it was starting to feel awkward, and draw attention, not only having a service dog but a full grown man who wasn't even his Dad, by his side at events. Not to mention, while he'd found comfort in Happy's presence over the years, that wasn't the case for everyone. He could still see the eyes of parents and kids alike widening with alarm when he told them Happy was there for protection. Worse yet, if they asked from what. Apparently Grayson was a walking security risk. He just wanted to be seen as normal at a school party. Maybe even as cool if he was lucky. Having Happy doing the chicken dance in the middle of the party, or walking around sniffing everyone's cups?
... Yeah. Grayson quirked a brow, wordlessly. Happy could get down, in his own way, but he was still a grown man. He'd stand out like a sore thumb. His Dad just wanted him to be safe. He got it. He did. Well, "If one party's that dangerous, maybe I shouldn't even go."
He paused for a moment, frustration building. He squeezed at the computer desktop. "Peter doesn't take a bodyguard with him to school parties." Alright, even he could sense the counter argument coming with that. "What if Happy... waits in the car?" Would that feel any better than asking him to wait outside the house? At least he'd have some tunes. A/C if he needed it. A drink or snacks if desired. Gray could even bring some out for him. Guilt ebbed into his chest nonetheless.
