Rocket feels like a piece of shit, he always does though so that's not really that new, he wasn't really trying to hurt her, he'd just cared deeply for people before and lost them, he wasn't sure he could survive that again so if he started to accept that he cared for mantis as much as he really did, the thought of losing her would kill him and he did everything in his power not to dwell on that.
"I did not call you that," she points out gently. She doesn't even think that. Rocket is abrasive perhaps, but Mantis does not think he is an asshole. She thinks he has endured many sorrows, and his anger is armor. The empath does not judge him for it, but he needs to understand that it isn't okay to attack the Guardians. "You don't have to say or do things to push us away. It won't work, you know that."

Taylor, despite everything she's been though, has always believed the same. Or, if there isn't joy to be found, there is at least, if she looks hard enough, love and beauty. There is friendship and family, and there is the sun in the sky. Maybe some days are bad, and maybe sometimes the weight of the world seems too heavy to bear, but there is still love.
Her family loves her. Her friends love her. Iggy loves her. And she loves them, too.
Iggy wiggles as he's pet, an attempt at a wagging tail from a dog without one. Taylor worries about his hips, sometimes, but they seem okay. Stiff, maybe, but okay. The fact that he won't live forever terrifies her, but she tries not to think about that too much. He's here now, and he's happy.
Taylor smiles warmly as she watches Mantis and Iggy, the two new friends. It makes her happy that they like each other, even if she wasn't all that worried. They're two of the most likable people she knows. "Yeah, he is. He's a good boy." Her head tilts just so to the side. "Is Cosmo your dog?"
It is terrifying, to love what death can touch, to know that one day that love will inevitably collapse into grief. That is why it takes courage to do so. Power, titles, strength, those things pale in comparison to the sheer courage required to love, lose, and love again. It is a brave thing to do, and no one can change her mind.
Iggy is lovable, and he is loving. The empath can't help but giggle once again as she pets him, following the movement of his non-existent tail. He is much too adorable, and she can feel her heart melting.
"No, not exactly," she says, and her eyes meet her friend's once again. Her smile dampens a little as she recalls Cosmo's story. "Cosmo is a dog, originally from this planet, Earth. She was... experimented on, launched into space, and she ended up on Knowhere. When my friends and I bought Knowhere, she helped us rebuild it with her powers: telekinesis, telepathy... She is lovely." Mantis rises to her feet, her smile rebuilding itself. "Do you mind if I walk with you?"

Her hands float up to her mouth, yet they do nothing to silence the first few giggles that herald loud and explosive laughter. Her face gradually turns pink as she tries to hold it in, shoulders spasming, and Drax's stoic irritation only makes the situation even funnier. With a shake of her head, Mantis claps once, twice, unable to look at him lest his expression should send her into a laughing fit.
She glances at the guard, and that is her mistake.
The guard smiles sheepishly, he smooths out his hair, and he winks at Drax. There it is: the last straw, the thing that causes Mantis' composure to break. The empath throws her head back and laughs, gasping and wheezing and clapping. Laughs until her lungs are empty, laughs until tears fill her eyes. When she thinks she's done, the guard walks past Drax swaying his hips and poor Mantis is sent into another fit of giggles. Her hands rest over her abdomen, her legs weak and she has to lean against a wall to keep herself from falling over. She wipes tears away from her cheeks, fighting to catch her breath.
"Every... time...!" Words lost between more giggles, her lungs barely filling. "It... It gets better every time!" She does not abuse her power often, but making random guards fall in love with Drax is one of her favorite hobbies. She didn't even need to distract this guard in particular. "I... I am sorry, Drax, but I can't promise this will be the last time."
