Atyd is a story about class and privilege. Atyd is a story about queerness and comphet. Atyd is a story about disability. Atyd is a story about the intersectionality of class, privilege, queerness and disability. Atyd is a story about growing up and learning how to be a person. Atyd is a story about morality, sometimes being a ‘bad person’ and what this even means. Atyd is about war and grief and societal circumstances forcing your hand. Atyd is a story about emotionally driven decisions and how they affect the people we love. On that note, Atyd is a story about love, but in all its beautifully complex and messy shades, not fairytale romance.

All The Young Dudes is one of the most layered and nuanced works of fiction to ever exist and 99.9999% of criticisms I see of it can be boiled down to “tell me you lack media literacy without telling me you lack media literacy”

Also again, for the love of Remus Lupin, please please PLEASE stop publicly slating fanfictions. Everyone has personal taste and you won’t enjoy everything you read, but fics aren’t published works that have invited critique. They’ve been provided to you for FREE by a fellow nerd in the community so keep any negative thoughts you have on fics to your self.

I’m not saying everyone has to enjoy Atyd or that people can’t think that Remus is OOC etc. BUT the fic is not bad because it’s not to your personal taste and like I said, the overwhelming justifications I see for why people think it’s bad seem to entirely miss the point/ the fact that some of these choices are absolutely intentional from the author. Like, of course Sirius makes objectifying comments about Mary… he’s a teenage boy in the 1970s who is massively overcompensating to cover his queerness. A huge part of his character arc is comphet???

Anyway enough of me rambling. Long story short, I’m an ATYD defender until I die

Lady Danbury said she had 4 children. (Put a pin in that) we see 3 children in two separate scenes once when they’re playing with the governess/nanny in the gardens and then at Lord Danbury’s funeral. Now she said she 4 kids. This could either mean that she was already pregnant at the time of lord Danbury’s death as it was made abundantly clear that he was more active than usual before he croaked however there is the possibility that the 4th child’s father is Lord Ledger seeing as they had an affair (which was really cute btw I don’t care what anyone says). Which would mean that Lady Danbury might’ve given birth to Violet’s half sibling. OH MY DAYS

Sirius: He caught Remus and I snogging after his practice and is being a big baby about it

Percy and Oliver

On his first night in Hogwarts Percy was terrified with homesickness. When he was tearing up Oliver, who was kept awake by it, offered to go get Percy’s older Brothers but Percy refused. He didn’t want to look like a baby in front of them.

Instead Oliver gives Percy an amethyst bracelet. Oliver’s muggle aunt gave it to him. She was very into esotericism, claiming that the stones had calming qualities.

Oliver and Percy both knew that stones didn’t have any magical powers, but Percy accepted it and thanked Oliver.

Counting the beads distracted Percy from his fears and fidgeting with it helped him relax and release nervous energy.

Percy wanted to return it the next day but Oliver gifted it to Percy and was actually glad to get rid of it.

It helped Percy through a lot of stressful situations. Whenever he had to memorise something he would count the beads along. He even carved ancient runes into the beads when he realised it had same amount of beads as there were runes.

In fourth year the string that kept bracelet together ripped send all the beads flying across a hallway on the fourth floor. He had difficulty to find every bead again. When it was close to curfew and Oliver was worried that Percy wasn’t in the Gryffindor tower yet he sent Charlie after him.

Percy was so much in distress that Charlie continued searching with him for another two hours until they found every bead.

Later that year Percy found unicorn tail hair in the paddock after his class about unicorns in care for magical creatures. He uses it to repair the bracelet.

Without noticing it Percy created a new way to control magic like a wand. But it was more forceful and drained more magic so he preferred not to use it until it’s an emergency.

Other attempts to recreate it failed which made it an unique magical tool.

I am not a twin but have so many friends that are twins that it’s weird. So from observing I’ve gathered some stuff.

Personalities and Interests

There are two stereotypes that twins in entertainment are often portrayed as. They are either so similar it’s creepy or complete opposites that have nothing in common. Neither of these make sense. As they get older twins spend less time together but because they most likely live together, they still experience some significant moments together. The twins you are writing should have separate personalities but still have common quirks and interests. Balancing their differences and similarities is sometimes difficult so keeping separate character profiles and referring to those help.

No, they cannot communicate telepathically.

Unless you have a fantasy element that allows them to do so. Some may be able to understand each other without saying anything but that is for anyone who is close to another, being twins isn’t the reason. If you want to add something similar you can have them create their own language. When my twin cousins were younger they would speak nonsense but easily understand each other, apparently it was hilarious. If you really want to play with this stereotype you should probably only do it if it is some sort of fantasy story so then there is some sort of explanation.

Close or not?

When I was younger I was friends with these twins and they didn’t get along the best. They would always argue and such. It was definitely a problem that they were in the same friend group as well. Nowadays I’m pretty sure they get along better (I don’t really know I lost touch with them) and a main reason is because they’ve grown up, (also because they aren’t in an as toxic group).

In comparison I am now friends with some twins that get along way better. Sure they argue but it never goes so far as offending each other. This may be because they don’t go to the same school because one got into selective school, meaning they don’t spend most of the day together. What establishes your characters’ relationship? Did something happen when they were growing up that brought them closer or further apart? Do they simply just despise each other?
