Avatar AU where Zuko manages to stop Zhao from killing the moon spirit by taking the killing blow himself. As he sinks into the water, the ocean spirit thinks “hey this kid saved my partner, and I haven’t had a chance to try out this whole bringing-people-back-from-death thing that Tui did with that princess, let’s give this a shot” and brings Zuko back to life. The only problem is, when the ocean spirit brings Zuko back, he doesn’t come back as a fire bender, of course not, that’s not La’s area of expertise! Instead, Zuko has been brought back to life spirit-touched, and now a water bender.

Can you imagine? He would be livid.

Maybe his sign of being spirit-touched is something as small as his eyes turning blue. Maybe it’s something much more obvious. Doesn’t matter, Zuko’s more focused on the change in his bending element. He might not even notice the physical change for a while, what’s one more unasked-for mark on his skin?

Aang decides to smuggle Zuko out of the Northern Water Tribe because he knows if they leave him there Zuko will be killed, and so Zuko gets dragged along with the Gaang as early as the beginning of season 2. Zuko’s furious about his bending being changed, but he’s also determined to master his new powers, and so now Katara has two students to deal with. Maybe Uncle Iroh comes along and ends up becoming Aang’s firebending teacher, maybe Zuko tries to teach him even though he can’t actually firebend anymore because at least he remembers how it works. Maybe they find someone completely new.

But just imagine, Spirit-Touched!Waterbender!Zuko AU, what fun times to be had!
