Anyone can help!
(Real pen the last picture)
It is important for EVERYONE to know how to help ANYONE. Not everyone can give them selves their medicine under every circumstance. Be educated, help out.
In the last year, i have gotten about five new violent allergies from foods i used to be able to eat. Next time i eat a fruit, my throat could close. I may not be able to inject myself. My boyfriend and i played with my trainer pen for like 30 minutes. He knows how to inject it. I know how. This is important.
Be sure to count out the five seconds you hold the needle down for!
In an emergency your time sense can go wonky so make sure you not only count it out loud but that you give it a couple of extra seconds to be certain.
While it will go through clothes it will NOT go through wallets, phones, misc items in pockets. Make sure there’s actual flesh underneath where you’re applying the Epipen!

LIL NAS X 2021 | Variety: Power of Young Hollywood
“JKR didn’t start out like this she was radicalized!”
She, like most fascists, started out with antisemitism. It’s obvious in the HP series. It’s obvious in the Goblins. It’s obvious in how she treated the Deathly Hollows symbol (specifically with Mr. Lovegood’s casual wearing of the symbol, despite it being a symbol for a genocide)
Despite the diversity that is within the UK, most of the students at Hogwarts are implied white, British, and Christian. The exceptions being the Patel twins and Cho Chang. 2 of which were the last ditch dates for our Love Struck Heros and were treated horribly, 1 of whom has two different last names and is generally treated horribly by the narrative. Our resident Irish family has “too many kids” and is poor with little social mobility. Welsh students? Where? Scots? 1 Scottish professor in a Scottish school. Black? Only in the movies, and even then subject to change if they happen to become a main character’s love interest (See: Lavender Brown). Oh and don’t forget the House slaves Elves!
Queer characters? Word of G-d we have one gay character and a horrid metaphor for the AIDs epidemic.
My point? Despite the fact that her books managed to radicalize a good portion of her audience, that was a happy accident. We were a happy accident who took the class metaphor she wanted us to see and RAN with it into social justice to fight for anyone who was being oppressed. Because We made the connections for ourselves.
JKR was never progressive. She was a bigoted Centrist at best.
She might not have started out radicalized but she was sure as hell an easy target. Because she was already bigoted in other ways. Being openly transphobic is just one of the more acceptable ways to be a bigot amongst “feminists” in Britain.
Rowling has also pushed eugenicist ideals through ableism.
Squibs are clearly mistreated but that is never fought against by any characters, even though they’re clearly a metaphor for disabled people; squibs being thrown out of society or shoved into the darkest corners of it is treated as completely normal and justifiable.
The Black family isn’t just “evil” because of the things its members do, but also because they’re clinically insane. Even the “good” members of the Black family fall prey to its “madness” and suffer terribly for that.
“Mad-Eye” Moody is a whole other can of worms. He’s one of the few canonly disabled characters and his disabilities are used to depict him as terrifying, disgusting, grotesque. His disabilities are treated as something scary.
Ariana Dumbledore’s disability ruined her family members’ lives. It led to her father being imprisoned and her mother dying. She was kept isolated and locked away, resented by her mother and brothers, until she was outright murdered through Dumbledore’s negligence. Her entire existence is just used to further his narrative.
The Longbottoms were tortured into “insanity”. They exist just to be tragedy porn for both Harry and the audience.
Tom Riddle’s evil is blamed on an inability to feel love because of how he was conceived and born.
Neville’s uncle literally tried to MURDER him for possibly being a squib and that’s totally fine because it helped him start developing magic.
There’s a lot of ways that the HP series has pushed fascist beliefs and ideals, but they’re things that no one wants to talk about.
(I already reblogged this but fuck it I’m gonna add to it)
It’s very telling when you compare the movies and the books how they had to sanitize the story to make it palatable. For example, the “redemption” of Severus Snape.
As far as I am aware, there is no evidence he ever went back on the beliefs for which he joined the Death Eaters, and in fact I’d argue there’s evidence he specifically did not. You know how the Longbottoms were “tortured into insanity,” and his uncle tried to murder him? Yeah, Neville’s worst fear is Severus Snape. That’s fucking horrifying. Snape is canonically such an abusive teacher that a boy with that sort of trauma fears him above all of it. I could go on. But in Deathly Hallows, we’re expected to believe that Snape is a good man, to the point the protagonist names one of his sons after him in part because of the memory scene. It’s interesting how the movies omit several of those memories, in the Order of the Phoenix scene as well. All of them ones that paint Snape in a bad light. Because they know if he’s hurling slurs at Lily like he is in the books, then the audience will go “well he was a dickhead.” Examine why we’re supposed to think Snape’s a good guy. He supposedly loved Lily. I would strongly argue that he did not. He felt entitled to her. The motivation for his so-called redemption is a possessive, creepy fucking high school crush on a married woman whom he had no qualms about using slurs on at the height of a war over those beliefs. Is there a single other person with nonmagical heritage he seems to respect? Has he gone back on those beliefs? No. We see that in how he treats Hermione, and frankly, in the password to the Slytherin Common Room. I doubt the wall set the password pure-blood. His motivation was not “we should not be killing muggleborns.” His motivation was “hey don’t kill my muggleborn, everyone else is fine.”
Albus Dumbledore is textually a manipulative child groomer. That’s just what he is if you look at him through a lens that doesn’t think him amazing, and that’s even worse in the books! My main exposure to the series is the movies, which I’m using as reference for Kaleidoscopic Grangers, where I’m basically rewriting the story where Potter is a blind transgender girl adopted by the Grangers who can sense magic, it’s very fun and I try to address and fix these sorts of things. But oh no, he’s Albus Dumbledore, he’s amazing! /s. The narrative treats him as nothing less than a genius who managed to plan out fucking everything down to Harry and Malfoy fighting to get the Elder Wand, which, no, none of the events that led up to that could have been predicted, to my knowledge, they were coincidental and based on things that Dumbledore could not have known. The story lauds Harry’s willingness to sacrifice himself, but he was fucking manipulated from day 1 to be Dumbledore’s sacrificial lamb. Watching the last movie, Aberforth points out that Harry did not know Albus and that he should not have trusted him. Aberforth in that conversation is CORRECT. But in the narrative, anyone who even criticizes Dumbledore is wrong. To quote Doge in the book, let nothing tarnish your memory of Albus Dumbledore! Except, remember, Skeeter was fucking telling the truth, Dumbledore did get involved in the Dark Arts and with Grindelwald. If the text addressed how Harry was manipulated and rejected those sorts of things, it’d be more fine, but the text goes along with it! Harry idolizes Dumbledore even after knowing he lined him up for slaughter, knowingly, all along, to the point he names his son after him!
In Snape and Dumbledore, Potter wants the reader to idolize child abusing fascists. I’m all for shades of grey in storytelling, but that none of that is properly addressed is not just horrible storytelling but also just… disappointing. If you’re writing a super-popular kids story (that frankly only dominated a niche, I would not say it’s a good story), perhaps don’t normalize grooming and abuse as normal and heroic? Is Harry having been in a cupboard ever anything other than joke fodder? As far as I’m aware, the boy never shows any signs of the trauma he would have suffered at the hands of the Dursleys, and any fucker who goes “oh he wasn’t abused he was just neglected” can fuck off, neglect is abuse. Surely exploring how your protagonist was abused and exploring how they respond to it and recover is more interesting to write than playing it as heroic? I don’t see how Rowling wrote that and wasn’t massively disappointed in herself!
And on that note of Rowling being a bigoted centrist: notice how literally every villain in the Potter franchise is the one wanting to change the status quo? Harry Potter doesn’t fight for a better world, to change the world for the better, hell, he doesn’t even quantitively fight for anything. The protagonist is constantly trying to prevent change. Even on the small scale. Hermione seeks to make change to how the magical world has fucking chattel slavery and no, Rowling, you do not get to say there are no parallels to the slave trade, if it’s in there it’s in there, and she is mocked for it. Anyone who alters the status quo is evil. The Ministry is evil only when it is either against Dumbledore and Harry, or taken over by Voldemort, at all other times it is always to be trusted. Grindelwald may be a warmongering fascist, but again, the one wanting change is ALWAYS aligned with evil or at the absolute least being wrong, and that sort of narrative is incredibly frustrating.
On another note the above reminded me of: Moody. Alastor Moody. That fucker should have been a tragic father figure to Harry trying to steer him AWAY from the path he ends up following, because look at what Harry does. He never lets go of the fight against specifically dark magic. Not bigotry or anything, specifically Dark magic. He can’t let go of that fight, he goes and becomes an Auror. Remind anyone of Alastor? Alastor should have been looking at that kid and going “no, no, do not go down that path, I know where that path leads and you don’t want to go there.” But what is he instead? Fucking joke fodder for being a traumatized fucking veteran. You could absolutely read into things like his eye. Why would someone like him want to see through walls, behind him? Because he’s been snuck up on one too many times. But no, let’s make fun of the disabled traumatized veteran instead of exploring the themes and stories he presents. His death is practically meaningless in the movie. If he’d been a tragic father figure to Harry, it would have had meaning, and that loss of Alastor Moody could have caused him to lose that mitigating figure and go harder into things he shouldn’t be following. But no, he’s joke fodder.

Reaching in the black abyss for a mermaids kiss
Wait when did the 4 oceans become the 5 oceans? Was I supposed to know about that, or did everyone just stop talking about ocean facts after I finished 6th grade?
Holy shit that's LITERALLY what happened :v
...Where the fuck is the SOUTHERN OCEAN?
That's the cool thing about this! The southern ocean is exactly what it sounds like - it's the ocean at the south of the globe! There are a few different definitions for where it starts (based on hydrographic criteria) but the general gist is that it is the span of ocean south of 60°S latitude, making it the 2nd smallest ocean (smallest is the arctic ocean) of the 5. It also has the unique standing of being the only ocean whose border isn't defined by any terrestrial boundaries!
It fully encompasses Antarctica, and contains the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, the biggest ocean current in the world.
And I learned all this because I couldn't remember if Artic was the name of an ocean or just a circle so I looked it up and found out there was a 5th ocean! Based on the research hole I fell down for the next hour it makes perfect sense to me and I'm excited to know about it, but I was absolutely flabbergasted that for as many years as I was in school I was never taught about it.
Happy Friday the 13th, you spooky bitches
This is... Very spiritual.
*GASPS* Are you goddamn kidding me??? I fucking hate the lack of infrastructure in my country. God.
Dude if I could take a train 400 miles anywhere I would pay 14 dollars just for a seat, never mind all those amenities. Jeez.
Reasons I remind myself I don’t like my country number who knows what
While this is super cool in and of itself, I’d also like to remind people that modern high speed rail (most of which is in China these days) operates at around 200 miles/hour (China’s fastest train actually operates at 370+ mph but that’s an absolute state of the art maglev, the 200 mph number is average rail speed). If we actually invested in these train systems, you wouldn’t even need an overnight ticket to make a 400 mile trip. To put that in an American context, it would allow you to get from New York to Los Angeles (the famous Cannonball Run taken by car enthusiasts for decades) in about 15 hours, which is 10 hours better than the current Cannonball Run record. With that kind of speed, you could take an evening train halfway across the country (Boston to Chicago would be ~5 hours) for a weekend trip.
Trains are not just more convenient (no driving!), but technologically superior to cars.
