I love helping people make things. I love helping people connect with other people and get the resources they need to make things. Now, how can I help more people, especially historically disadvantaged people like women and minorities, get access to help and resources? We help a lot of techies through Station, but there are more people -- like @impacthubhouston, @thekimroxie, and @gritgrocery -- who need different kinds of help and resources to grow than tech startups do. Caught the artists (and volunteers) at work on the German House (Deutsche Haus?). #ATX #streetart & #murals are some of my favorite things about coming to #SXSW every year.

Finding my way at the intersection of @stationhouston & @houstonexponential. My favorite part of this whole experience is hearing entrepreneurs' stories of how they feel like they've finally met their "tribe": Starting a company can feel lonely, so it's awesome when you meet people who are traveling that journey, too, who welcome you into their lives as a friend and are as generous with their time and advice and support as you are. There's so much time and work and passion that goes into building a community that usually goes unnoticed and unrecognized, running in the background. (Maybe that's why organizers and developers get along so well--similar experiences!) But times like this are a good reminder of how much it's worth it, when you see your community connect with others, benefit, and grow. I'm so proud of all the tech startups representing #Houston at #SXSW: Alice, Liongard, Unvired, @HTXlabs, VastBiome, Fresh Tech Solutionz, Penrose Technologies, Syzygy Plasmonics, Alive 5, Pheramor, and so many more I didn't get to see during #ATXStartupCrawl! When the term "slasher" first emerged to describe people who were designers/artists/consultants/photographers/you-name-it, it immediately resonated with me. Whether we call it "juggling" with "a lot of balls in the air," or "plate-spinning," or "wearing a lot of hats," many of us do a lot of things simultaneously...and always have. We just previously defined ourselves by what we got paid to do, rather than by what we passionately do. One of the reasons why I wanted to help launch @stationhouston was to allow myself and others to proudly be slashers: To solve diverse problems, create a lot of new things, and express all of who we are among like-minded people who enjoyed sharing in all of it...instead of being afraid that you were "doing too much." I look forward to meeting more slashers at #SXSW -- this is one of the best places, after all, with the convergence of Interactive, Film, Music, Education and more! -- and to sharing why Station and Houston are a great home for people like us. As Houston is the most ethnically diverse city in the country, so are Houstonians some of the most intellectually diverse people in the world. #HOUSxSW #TeamHouston #ihearthou (at SXSW)
