UPDATE (23/03/2021): hey guys, hope you’re all ok. around here things are getting weird. i’ll need, again to postpone my rent. i have almost no food, and asked for help to every person i know, and a friend offered to me use her credit card to buy the essential and pay her on april 12th, but i don’t have any money to do this. i am super scared that the owner of the house will ask me to leave bc of the delay in pay again this month. please, if someone have anything, anything at all to share, will help me a LOT, doesn’t matter how much.

for infos, search “brazil” on google and see for youself how everything is overpriced, and food that was already super expensive, is worse now. i am going nuts, i dont know what to do.

If you like peppermint, buy a fucking plant. Or extract, that is actually meant to be ingested.

Please don’t bake with essential oils, these things are not food safe and were never intended to go through food. The processing that food goes through (baking, the chemical interactions inside the food, etc) can influence what the essential oil is doing in there.

My favorite bit is this:

Because my mom basically shoved essential oils down my throat when I was 12 to 16 (I would always tell her no and then she'd figure out ways to slip it into things I ate/drank)

One time I was super sick. I asked to go to the doctor. She said no because she had oils to help. I told her "No." Because I hated them, their scent was always too strong and made me sick. Later I asked for mint tea and she told me she'd make me some. After I took a sip I was disgusted because it didn't taste like the mint tea we had in the house. I asked and she said she decided to just give me hot water with peppermint essential oil in it.

And oh gods I've gone on a rant.... Sorry?

My biggest concern with something like that would be potential damage to your throat and esophagus, especially if it went on long term. If you have concerns you could ask to see an ENT or GI doctor to check your throat for signs of something called esophagitis which is when the esophagus becomes inflamed and damaged from constant irritation, usually acid from the stomach washing back up the pipe (I’ve got it from years of allergies causing acid reflux). If that is indeed a thing you have going on, you might be prone to things like sore throats, nausea and stomach upsets and other general symptoms of not feeling well. If your esophagus is inflamed, there are meds they can try to use to keep it from being irritated any further from your natural stomach acids.

You can also just straight up go see a doctor and tell them your mother subjected you to years of high doses of essential oils and you’d like to make sure your liver and kidneys are working fine.

I’m not saying any of this to alarm you, merely letting you know that you have ways to make sure no lasting damage was done and have some peace of mind. Chances are you are fine, but your comment about struggling with food and feeling not so well all the time would make me want to get your throat/gi tract checked out just in case there’s some inflammation that needs taken care of.

Take the time to look in front of you, it’s a matter of your mind.

In that moment I realized I was in front of a lecture hall of privileged students. I was surrounded by people who didn’t know poverty or desperation like I had. I clawed my way here on scholarships while they were legacy kids or trust fund babies. In that moment it clicked in my head that there’s this level of empathy that you can only gain when you have absolutely nothing to lose. A level of empathy that only the impoverished have. A level of empathy that screams out that you have to fight to make things better even if it doesn’t benefit you. It’s a concept that you can only really grasp when you have nothing to lose and the kids before me hadn’t known that pain. They hadn’t developed that kind of empathy.
