Honestly, as one of the major changes from the original books, I’m always tempted to try to write Harry’s side of getting to Shell Cottage and hearing from Bill that Ginny’s missing. Can you imagine? The trio hearing that they all had to go into hiding when Ron was revealed, but Ginny had been at Hogwarts even though it was break (no one knows why), and they couldn’t get to her in time. Aberforth is able to confirm that she hasn’t been captured, that she’s apparently safe, but not much else. I imagine Harry staring at the map, trying to find her name, because it’s always possible she’s hiding out in the cloister? But it’s empty. Just Burke sitting in there sometimes. Harry would have to wonder if he knew something, but there’s not way to ask and everything is coming to a head with the Elder Wand and the Horcruxes and he has a half-mad wandmaker and a devious Goblin to deal with. (The Room of Requirement has been Fidelius’d, so I don’t think Harry can even remember it at this point, not until they get to the Hog’s Head and Hannah tells them about it.) Ron is beside himself, and Bill’s worried too, but he claps a hand on Ron’s shoulder and reminds him that Ginny is resourceful and scary as hell when she needs to be. They have to trust that she’s okay. There’s just nothing else to be done. (They are all under Fidelius as well, so Ginny couldn’t find them/contact them even if she wanted to, even if she was willing to leave the DA. They’re all just going to have to ride the war out and hope.) The next time Potterwatch airs, her name is added to this list of the missing. If you can hear this, Ginny, keep fighting, don’t lose hope, and come back to us.
