SHOTS WERE FIRED. a flash of ivory light. it was downed right at her feet — scarlet stains her big yellow rainboots. crystal tears coating verdant doll-like eyes, threatening to OVERFLOW in big drops down round freckled cheeks. was she saved ? by who ?

one thing that would  keep her up at night was meeting deadlines or paying taxes ( because no one else was going to do them ). the adults told her ' monsters were not real. ' yet TONIGHT, mere minutes ago, she screamed and ran for the hills. a wolf ( that was not a wolf — but it looked like one almost, what other animals could she trace it back to ? )  that YEARNED for flesh and bone —  chased her. that tiny heart rocketed into the sky  while her lungs burned — like FLAMES she did not want to remember, and death she did not want to succumb to.

a  man. it was a man who saved her. those grizzled old men who ztreet zmartz used to warn her about. but how could she REJECT someone who made  such a sincere effort to help  her ?

it was thanks to him that she was still alive.
