This is my last week of my prerequisite science classes and therefore, my last week of anatomy and physiology. So, I thought I would share some of my favorite histology slides from A&P II and their notable features.

Cardiac cells: intercalated dics + branching

Sarcoidosis of the lungs: lymphoid cells (purple) fill the alveolar sacs of the lungs

Trachea: 9 layers of cartilage w/ciliated pseudostratified columnar cells

Parotid gland: one of your salivary glands; inflammation of the parotid gland is known as mumps

Pancreas: Islet of Langerhans surrounded by acini cells; beta cells secret insulin; alpha cells secret glucagon

Liver: hepatocytes form hexagonal lobes; portal triad consists of artery, vein, and bile duct

Bladder: transitional epithelium allows for stretching
