Basil’s age is up to interpretation, considering how he has, well, no canon age. When mentioning he was friends with Henry in Oxford, a university where academics are measured (and not your age,) you’d be surprised how little that could mean. It’s only more plausible how Basil would be 8-10 years older than Dorian when we know Lord Henry is canonically 10 years older than him.

Naturally, you could say he can only love in worship, as it's the only way he knows how to love. This could explain or put some foreground to why he views Dorian as an idol to praise.
