i wanted to make an icon to match my banner, which was the cityscape from the game, so i drew jill! ended up doing more than just that though. also, first time using the symmetry tool in art, and i kinda like the results.

small bonus:

Paper for the inside

A needle and thread. (Preferably thicker, preferably waxed thread. You can use the non-plastic dental floss for this at first)

Some thicker/prettier paper for the covers

Something to poke holes with (a thumbtack, an awl, etc)

(optional) something to help you fold pages. The official bookbinder's tool is a bone folder but you can use a credit card or the flat back of a butter knife to start

You can start out by making pamphlets with nice covers to get the hang of the sewing bits. Once you move onto books with harder covers, you will need

Some kind of stiff thing for the cover. Cardboard from cereal boxes, taking the covers off of cheap thrift store books, etc

Craft knife, the kind that uses single use utility blades (usually pretty cheap)

Glue. PVA for bookbinding is a little more expensive but you can use white Elmer's glue for your first try. Also a lot of bookbinding uses wheat paste, which is just flour and water

Something to squish your book flat while it dries. You can use cutting boards with a bunch of weights on top, and people have also been able to make their own book presses out of wooden cutting boards and big carriage bolts for not too much money, although it requires a drill.

As with many hobbies, you can get pretty far into the rabbit hole of "fancy crafting equipment" but there is a lot of technique you can learn with just simple stuff.

draw a still life. practice some poses. sketch some naked people. do a color study. try out a different technique on a basic shape.

art block doesnt stop you from drawing, it stops you from making your drawings look the way you want them to. and thats because you need to push your skills to the next level so you can preform at that standard

We here at Moirai Myths know that “real advertisements” aren’t really the sorta thing the average tumblr user is all too fond of, but dang it, we’re making something that we think some of you will probably like, so here we are ⁠— jumping on the “blaze” bandwagon with an earnest sales pitch.

Anyway, we’re making a romantic visual novel inspired by Irish myths:

The year is 1845 and you play as an Irish person who gets lured into the mythical world of Tír na nÓg, home to the legendary Tuatha Dé Danann, or “People of the Goddess Danu”. While trying to escape this strange, war-torn Otherworld, you meet:

Shae, an honourable soldier questing to find a lost princess.

Keagan, the spymaster of the Seelie Court with a host of enemies.

Aífe, Queen of the Seelie, a rumoured usurper falsely ordained by the gods.

Flannán, the newly crowned Unseelie King, and son of the Unseelie’s infamous rebel leader, Lugaid.

Maeve, a folk hero endowed with the power of a warrior goddess.

and Robin Goodfellow, a shapeshifting trickster of unknowable origins.

If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.
