How to create a gif - part.1
First of all, we need the screencaps of the scene/part of a video we want to transform into an animated pic.For this tutorial, I've chosen this video here. Once you've decided, you need to download the video in order to save the screencaps.
To save the screencaps, I use this open source application: Avidemux (for Windows, Mac & Linux). Go ahead and download it for your pc and install it.
Now it's time to open our video in Avidemux and save the caps. Go to File > Open > your video. Then, select a fraction of the video, like this - you can open the image to see better:
Then, it's time to save the frames. Go to File > Save > Save Selection as JPEG Images... Select a folder in which you want to save, a name for the pics and click "Save". This is what you'll get - I've saved using the name "caps00" then the program automatically adds all the other numbers:
Alright, we can open Photoshop.
The problem, while creating a .gif in Photoshop, is making the animation. But there is a faster way to do it instead of doing it manually: just go to File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack... a window will pop up. You can either choose to load all the files (aka all your images you saved before) or only select the folder in which you saved them and Photoshop will automatically load them. This is what you'll get with both the methods:
The result you'll get is the same. Now you just have to click "Ok". Photoshop will now load all the images on different layers, great! But, how can I create the animation? Do I have to select the levels one by one to create all the frames? Nope. It's easier than that! Make sure that the Timeline window is activated (if not, just go to Window > Timeline). On the right side of the Timeline, there's a button that opens the menu. Click on that and then select "Make Frames from Layers". Woilà!
Ops, slow down! There's one more problem we need to fix! As you can see, our animation is not working as we expected, the first frame of the video is the last in the animation and the last one is now the first one. How can we solve this problem? Don't worry. Just go again to the menu and now select "Reverse Frames". There, done! Everything is working just fine.
One more thing. We need to set a delay for all the frames. So, select them all and click on the bottom part of the frame and set your delay - I've set it to 0,07sec.
