“Are you being serious right now?” Rosario massaged her temples. “How in the world did you think that was a good idea?” There were times when Rosario thought that going into deep cover in the middle of Serbia would be much more enjoyable than dealing with the baby superheroes that called Paragon home. Or dealing with superheroes in general. She needed a fucking raise.

his frown is something legendary, eyes turning up from the ground and to the man who speaks to him. “okay, jeez, i’ll mark you down as not interested in ant facts, not interested in ant lives, and also as not very nice.” scott turns away from the man, looking back at his line of ants, who were almost done with their journey already. “not like the beauty of nature is a wonder in and of itself, but whatever.”

“Pre-fucking-cisely. I swear every time I cheat on my homework or steal a pack of skittles, someone looks at me like I kicked their puppy. Sometimes I wish I could just shake some sense into them. The world’s not all black and white, right?”

“I say steal all the skittles you want. Who really cares if one package is missing?” Axel had grown up a thief so stealing wasn’t unusual for him at least. He doesn’t see what’s so wrong with it personally. “Sometimes people gotta do what they gotta do, and people need to get over it.”

“Finally!” Thalia cracked a relieved smile. “Someone who gets it! It’s like, I’m not looking for trouble. I’m not a freaking supervillian. I’m just a person who sometimes gets pissed off at annoying people! And then suddenly I’m the bad guy.”

“I feel like I’m stuck around somewhere with too much GOOD. It’s like everyone’s too afraid to get in some trouble, but you know one bad step and I’ll probably get thrown behind bars or somethin’” He knew that was probably a truth since his parentage wasn’t a secret. 

Fashion faux pas’s had always gone over Dinah’s head. Jorts and crocs and denim-on-denim had never been things that went out of fashion for her. “They are, like, barely a fashion problem.”

Morgan laid in the quad, arms and legs spread out. Sitting up as she did so, she said, “As lovely as winter can be,” Truthfully, she hated winter. Cold winter and snow had never been much of her thing, and her wardrobe clashed with both. “I have missed just how great the sun is.” She said. 

“Oh, I got options. Stay in prison or take the deal. Honestly, I shouldn’t complain.” Not everyone got off as free as she had. Even if Paragon sometimes felt like a prison of its own, at least she wasn’t completely restricted. “But it’s fine. I mean, not everyone’s an asshat. You’re not, as far as I can tell.”

“I’m only an asshat to people who deserve it. I prefer to laugh off situations unless I need to teach someone a lesson. You know? I can’t be wild here which is a shame, too many hero types keeping an eye out.” 

“aw, no, come on,” there’s a frown on scott’s features as he watches a line of ants get disrupted on their way back to their colony. he knows the world isn’t very kind to the effort of ants but his empathy for them after spending so much time working and living with them is pretty high. “don’t bother them, they’re not bothering you. look, see, that one’s carrying like, half a cookie. that’s super impressive, isn’t it?”

“It sure does,” Thalia agreed. It did suck, maybe less than it had a year ago, but still. Nothing about her situation was great. “And the worst part is that I’m stuck here taking classes I can’t pass, surrounded by insufferable boy and girl scouts, for four freaking years! If they wanted to torture me, I wish they’d just do it the old fashioned way.”

“Yikes — did you not get any choice in the matter? You should have at least been given different options. Well, let’s hope that something good happens during those four years at least. If not then maybe find some enjoyment in judging all those HERO types.”

A thousand reasons came to mind. Stupid humans being jerks. The futility of trying to do the right thing. Bad luck. “I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” she replied, skipping over the much angrier excuses. “Since it was my first offense as an adult though, they let me off easy.”

“Lucky you then — but it still sucks either way I bet.” Axel says as he can only imagine what it must be like. He also knows that someday his own luck will run out, but until then he can try and be there for the younger thieves and whatnot.

“They are super comfortable. It’s, like, unreal. I think they look, uh neat. Yeah, they are neat. Just, like, neat, you know?”

Thalia shrugged. She’d never really stayed anywhere long enough to miss it. And even if she did, she’d never admit it, even to herself. “Nah. Seems about the same as every other city.” Loud, chaotic, and right up her alley. “Parole,” she groaned in reply. “It sucks, but I guess it’s better than the alternative.”

“It’s better than the alternative, yeah. I hear jail isn’t very fun — trust me I know since my dads have spent a lot of time in there. The guards will treat you like shit, but what did you do to get parole?”

“Cheers to that.” She finished the rest of her glass and sat back on the steps. Parties were always a fun time, but sometimes she just had to escape from her escape. “So what’s your excuse for sticking around this shithole?”

“I don’t know these days. The job pays good, but my daughter seems to like it around here. I miss Gotham though I’ll admit — is that weird?” Axel asks with a laugh as he shrugs his shoulders. “What about you?”
