This drabble is part of my summer celebration collection! Prompt: Diving Characters featured: Bartolomeo (One Piece), 2nd person GN Reader Requested by: @grouchymillennial [a/n]: I had originally written this one last year, made it all about swimming, and then realized WAY TOO LATE that Barto also has a devil fruit and none of the romantic swimming could happen. SO. Here is a completely different fic, which is also way longer than the drabbles were supposed to be, hope you enjoy!!

“Five metres max, you’re such a wuss” 

Barto raised an eyebrow at you, sending you a glance that didn’t need any words, it was clear as day to you what he meant: you’re lucky you’re my partner cause anyone else would have been smashed against the most nearby building for calling him a wuss. 

You laughed. The crew and you were having a little break on a summer island, and while the usual business was to wreck havoc, Bartolomeo had heard there was some rare strawhat memorabilia on this island, so it turned into a little break, the crew cooling off by a pool and you and your boyfriend hunting the island down for said items. 

The fact that you were pretty sure it was a fake, and anyone could claim that Luffy’s brother Ace had eaten with a -now unwashed- fork from their restaurant didn’t matter, and Barto had put the precious treasure away in his pocket, and you had made your way over to the rest of the crew, enjoying a spot in she shade away from them all, observing them as they made use of all the facilities, including the super high diving boards, undoubtedly used for competition. 

Which was how you got to the current discussion, you and Barto discussing what diving board the other would be able to jump off of without peeing their pants at the height. 

“I could easily do that fifteen meters one.” “No offense babe, but not only would you pee your pants, you would also seriously hurt yourself landing improper from that height.” 

That did it. You saw something change in his eyes, and he got up, quickly taking off his coat and running to the diving boards. Your eyes went wide with confusion and surprise as you saw him bolt right past the one, three, five, ten and even fifteen meters board to go for the highest one, the one that had security measures around it cause people are not supposed to jump without a safety team. He was already halfway through climbing up when you realized how bad this could be. 

“Guys, get in the water. The captain’s gonna dive!” You immediately grabbed the attention of most of the crew, getting them to assume positions and mentally preparing to give Barto an earful. Because in all his stubborn excitement, the idiot had forgotten the main side effect of his devil fruit.

You sighed deeply. He was lucky you loved him, and you were going to get some type of pleasure from rubbing that in later.
