Prepare to be Underwhelmed

Apparently when my dad was in the navy stationed in the Philippines his aunt sent him a cake. He said that it was terribly squished and the icing was melty and it was a little stale, but it was the best damn cake he's had in his life.

I have a friend that is so buoyant that she can be vertical in the water and just bob there with her head above water. Whereas I sink to the bottom immediately. I'm just so jealous. I hope we're all blessed with the impeccable ability to effortlessly keep your head above water.

Yo post-conflict societies are so crazy. The way they approach death is so so different than anything I've ever experienced. Right now my favorite grandmother is dying people are like yeah...she's old. Very little emotion. But at funerals people like wail, so loud, for a whole night (or three). The thing is is that a lot of people here lost entire sections of their family, and mothers loose babies all the time, and if you get old you don't last super long. So people are just like yeah, people die. In fact half the time when I'm talking to my host mom (ama) she'll be like "oh yeah so-and-so, she had 3 boys and 2 girls, she also had 2 girls die before they were a year, and she died in child birth last year" It's kind of like that southern way of talking about people but way more morbid

And I have a weird skin rash that came from ??? Just hoping I don't have scabies which all of the small children, babies, and everyone else have. It's a nice reminder of the time I got chicken pox 4 months ago.
