the odyssey will never be adapted perfectly! it's too long, it's too dense, it's too long in scope, it's too contradictory. so much happens but also in another way almost nothing happens. the world it portrays is so foreign to us it's difficult to adapt the values and context needed to understand. you're never going to get it all onto a screen it just doesn't fit. and once you accept that it only deepens your appreciation of the original text and allows you to accept each adaptation for its own purposes and limitations

X-Men '97 2x05 "Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs"
derahana parallels
Any recommendations of comics that explore Gambit's childhood or past? Like how he got into the Guild, being abandoned at birth...
Most of Gambitβs childhood is explored in his 1999 ongoing solo series. The first few issues cover the story of his birth, his early years, and how he came to be raised by the Thievesβ Guild.Β GambitΒ #25 also contains an extended flashback showing him as a child.
Bella Donna first appears inΒ X-MenΒ #8, which includes some material about their shared past, as does Gambitβs first solo miniseries and X-MenΒ #33, however, itβs mostly young/teenager Gambit.
More recently,Β Uncanny X-MenΒ #12 (2025) added another childhood story. It isnβt bad, doesnβt contradict his established history, and introduces a new villain connected to his past.
There is alsoΒ X-Men Origins: GambitΒ from 2009, which offers a condensed retelling of his origin (written by infamous self-insert Mike Carey, who never really gave a fuck about the character).Β Thereβs nothing new in this, just what we already knew with a few more details - it's skippable.Β

Morph sometime between TAS and 97
X-Men 97 Season 2 complaint
tldr: me want deathbit
After a 2 year wait of reading the most amazing fanfictions, my expectations are high. But even if my fav is Gambit, I understand that season 2 couldn't be just about Deathbit. It's an X-Men show, not a Gambit show.
I also knew right after the season 1 finale that there was going to be a lot to cover before the X-Men could meet Deathbit: making sure each team does their thing in the past/future, bringing everyone back to the present, Logan getting his adamantium...
However, I grew worried when I heard it was going to be only 9 episodes, and even more when I saw all the promos about x-force, x-factor, cameos...
And now we are at episode 5 of 9 and the Deathbit plotline did not advance, at all. The best we had was a 5 seconds flashback of War with the coffin, but that's it. I try to be understanding, but it's still frustrating. I fear that everything (the reveal, showing us how awesome/scary he is, rescue failures, combats, rescue success, the conclusion...) will be rushed within the last 2 episodes. I kinda hope that the deathbit storyline will keep continuing in season 3, so that it's not rushed, but that means another year of waiting, which sucks
A way they could have fixed this, without changing any episode or breaking the flow of the story, was to add a short vague wordless post-credit scene after each episode, maybe following War's journey. Example, end of episode 1, Apocalypse is summoning War. End of episode 2, War is landing in Louisiana. End of episode 3, A woman is visiting a graveyard to put flowers, but screams as she sees an empty grave. End of episode 4, War killing a police officer that saw the bigass coffin... Or something like that
This trail of crumbs would have been enough to satisfy me and get me excited for the next episode, knowing that this plotline is making progress and that the mystery is slowly unfolding.
But to end with something positive: I'm getting hyped each time I see the gambit close up in the marvel logo during the intro (I take what I can take)
Season 2 episode 5 spoilers
I kinda dreaded that episode ever since the season 1 finale where he lost his adamantium. Logan does not need more character development, considering the huge spotlight he gets everywhere else... So I was kinda worried that this plotline would take too much time in a short season that has a lot to cover.
But while this is a Wolverine plot, it felt more like a Morph episode, which I'm very happy about.
We saw a side of Morph that wasn't just punchlines and Sinister trauma. They were great at defusing tense situations, making plans, acting as the functioning braincell of the group. They didn't let themselves be intimidated by anyone and stood their ground against Lady Deathstrike and Sabertooth.
I enjoyed their interactions with Lady Deathstrike and loved that they called out Logan for lying at the end. I love their relationship with Logan, whether it's platonic or one-sided romantic feelings.
J.P. is doing a great job at voicing Morph π
But it's fucked up that Wolverine reacted to stabbing them only when they turned into Jean. What the hell Logan? It hurts watching this
I wouldn't mind more episodes like this one, where it's less plot-heavy, and more focused on character development... If it weren't for the fact that we have a season of only 9 episodes, that we waited 2 years, that we are already into episode 5 and that the Deathbit plotline had zero progression since the season started
