Photographing Marta
One of my favorite parallels between episode 363 and episode 602 is that, on the surface, they both seem to be about photography. I don't actually think they are. Back in episode 363, Fina tells Marta that she wants to photograph her. When Marta asks why, she says, "Because no one sees you through my eyes." Then Marta asks what those photographs show, and Fina answers, "The woman of my life." At first, it just feels like another romantic scene. But looking back now, I think it says a lot about how Fina saw Marta at that point in their relationship. Back then, Fina didn't just love Marta. She admired her. The Marta she saw through her camera was confident, elegant and composed. Maybe Marta the goddess? The woman she had fallen in love with. And that's exactly what she wanted to preserve. Not because she saw the "wrong" Marta, but because that was genuinely the Marta she knew back then. Every photograph became a way of holding on to the woman she saw through her own eyes. Which is why episode 602 immediately made me think of that conversation. After taking photographs all evening, Fina suddenly says the ones she wants to see the most are Marta's. At first that feels like a callback to episode 363. But then she explains why. She wants to see the photographs Marta didn't even know were being taken. And that's when the parallel suddenly becomes something else entirely. Back then, Fina wanted to preserve the Marta she saw through her own eyes. Episode 602 made me realize that those eyes have changed too. She still sees Marta differently than anyone else ever could, but the woman she's looking at isn't exactly the same anymore. This time, she wants the photographs where Marta didn't even know she was being watched. The moments where she isn't posing. The moments where she isn't trying to be anything. The Marta who isn't a Goddess. But Fina wants the moments where she's distracted, relaxed (like she was with her feet on the coffee table, fully chilling) or simply herself. That's such a small detail, but I think it completely changes the meaning of both scenes. The parallel isn't that Fina still wants photographs of Marta. It's that the Marta she sees through her own eyes has changed. Not because Marta became someone else, but because Fina has come to know parts of her she maybe couldn't have seen back then. I also love that this happens right before Marta wonders whether she's still the woman Fina first fell in love with. Years ago, Fina saw someone she deeply admired. Someone who always seemed so certain of herself. Now, when Marta worries that she isn't that woman anymore, Fina doesn't tell her nothing has changed. She admits that it has. She tells her it's even better to love a real person, with strengths, flaws and insecurities, than someone who always seems to have everything together. That's why I don't think these scenes contradict each other. I think episode 602 quietly finishes what episode 363 started. "Because no one sees you through my eyes" doesn't mean the same thing anymore. Not because Fina's love has changed, but because her understanding of Marta has. She still sees Marta through eyes no one else has. The difference is that those eyes have grown alongside their relationship. Back then, they saw the woman Fina had fallen in love with. Today, they also see the woman she's come to know. And somehow, that's the version she wants to hold on to the most. More and more and more and more.
I can't stop staring at her legs and her high heels. RESPECTFULLY.

MARTA & FINA - Sueños de Libertad - the reunion "What I want is to make up for lost time and spend my life with you. To be happy, to enjoy you. Maybe we can believe in destiny again."
"Love, I'm home."
I have a theory about why Carol Sturka was the only one of the english-speakers to be unhappy with the Hivemind takeover at the start of Pluribus: Carol is the only one who SAW the change happen.
I've seen dozens of different theories about this since the series began. Some I think make sense, some I disagree with very strongly. But I think this is the heart of the matter and I haven't seen anybody else mention it yet.
The mass conversion of humanity happened around 9:00pm local time in New Mexico. For the people who were in Africa and Asia it would have been the middle of the night, or approaching dawn (Depending on their individual locality). They were probably all asleep when the change happened, so they didn't see their loved ones "shut down" or go through the spasming process.
They went to bed the night before in the normal world, and they woke up the next morning in this New World with their loved ones telling them that everything is wonderful and better now. They didn't have the moments of panic and fear that Carol had when she saw Helen suddenly fall over, or the dawning horror when she realized everybody around her was also affected. None of them screamed at their loved ones hoping for a response, only to get complete silence and no acknowledgement at all until they woke up as somebody new after going through this horrible process.
Even Peru, where Kusimayu is from, is an hour or two hours ahead of New Mexico, so she also may have been asleep at 10/11pm.
With none of them SEEING this happen, they didn't have the visceral reaction that Carol had. Plus, if they and their families were all asleep, that explains how none of them were injured or killed during the transition like Helen was. None of them were standing up or driving a car or lifting something above their head or engaged in any sort of hazardous activity; they were lying prone on a bed and thus incapable of falling down. So that's why they have their families with them, and again why they're not knee-jerk angry. All because it happened at a diferent time for them.
