guys can anyone tell me if thumb braces are worth it? which ones work the best? any kind of experiences!! i'm looking to compare them first before i make any purchases :)
my thumb keeps dislocating with basic hand movements and it's so incredibly painful i need some kind of thing to hold it together 🫠
i hate being sick. i hate not being able to breathe. i hate when my eyes tear up every two minutes. i hate that i'm so dependent on other people when i have a fucking flu that shouldn't affect me this much. i hate that i can't process things. i hate that i can't hear properly. i hate that my mobility is decreasing. i hate that i can't sit up without fainting. i. hate. being. sick. while being disabled.
i seriously hate it when (neurotypical) people need an in-depth explanation for everything instead of just accepting what i say as it is... because why do i need to explain to you why i feel uncomfortable in social situations?? can't you just say okay and move on?? or try to understand without me having to feel uncomfortable explaining something that already makes me uncomfortable?? obviously not everyone is like that, but i come across those people a lot. and it annoys me. so fucking bad.

UGH i feel you so bad. good luck, i know it's tough
i can physically feel my shoulders and collarbones just slightly out of place but not enough to crack them back. im so close to starting a riot. /j
my joints are so stiff today im actually fueling the grandpa allegations..
(just to clarify this is an inside joke between me and my friends)
does anyone have any statistic proof of the negative side effects to using a cane? im currently arguing with my mom about getting one and she insists i'll start walking funny / crooked. should i wait for a doctors suggestion or just get one anyway?
As someone who’s used at least one cane for three years now I can confidently say I have NEVER had a negative side effect from it. I started with one cane towards the end of my freshman year, then switched to two canes the start of sophomore year, and then a rollator towards the end of my junior year. The only time mobility devices hurt you is when they are used improperly, and since I was taught how to use all of my mobility devices properly—I don’t have any issues (part of this was from my physical therapist—but there are a plethora of resources online nowadays from disabled people showing baby disableds how to use canes)
I will say that it does kind of hurt when you start using the cane because the muscles in your wrist aren’t used to holding all of that weight, but because of how muscles work, they will strengthen over time. My wrists only hurt after I use my mobility devices for too long—but if I’ve been up and about that much without them my fibro would cause them to hurt anyways.
Feel free to show this to your mom if you want!
It’s lived experience from someone who’s had a disability and been around the block with mobility devices, and if that isn’t valuable to her it’s likely disabled people’s opinions aren’t valuable to her in general—which is a whole other can of worms.
I hope this helps!
tysm!!! this is so insanely helpful for me oh my lord (i'd respond better / more coherently but it's 3am..)

What about the positive impacts though!!! A cane can definitely impact posture and if that’s an issue maybe something like forearm crutches could work better
BUT walking a little goofy is not a big deal considering what a cane could actually fix for you
this omd!!!! i just need to explain it better to my mom methinks

canes are one of the oldest mobility aids in recorded history. you will be fine unless someone beats you over the head with it
common advice: make sure you use the right height on your stronger side (as relevant) and also decorate it however you please.
ive also been told many use a cane more for stability when standing rather than for walking, so even on days where it feels "unnecessary" it can still make your life easier.
remember that not only does your safety come first, your comfort generally should too
thank you!!! this is honestly really helping with the confidence in actually getting what i need for myself
