Sorry if you hear cowboy noises coming from my room Iâm practicing being a cowboy
cant stop thinking abt ursula k. le guinâs essay abt the carrier bag theoryâŚ.. sheâs like, maybe the first human tool was not a weapon, but rather something that holds, a bag, a pouch, a vessel, something for gathering and storing and sharing. letâs shift the narrative of humanity from that of violence to that of safekeeping. and iâm like
Sorry I wasnât paying attention I was pressing on my eyes for a color show extravaganza
i met a girl on tinder and, purely coincidentally, our grandmas share the same name and our mums share the same birthday. the umbilical chord is attached to the placenta and the arteries and veins make it look like a tree. i think of the quince tree my mum planted after my brotherâs birth and the jam she made from it every summer and how we let it melt on buttery toast in the mornings. the other day i stopped for a second because it suddenly smelled like winter outside and i felt comforted by the familiarity. my siblingsâ laughs all sound the same. poets and scientists both wonder why and how the world works and in this, they share the same longing for understanding. science is art is science is art. âstay healthy,â i type into my emails, âkeep safeâ the chancellor of my university tells his staff. âi am so awfully glad to be aloneâ, my great-aunt wrote in her diary in the 1940s. i read the words in the comfort of my room, content by myself. there are patterns in the universe, and threads that intertwine and that tangle and knot and then smooth out again. iâm glad to be here for it, i think as i stretch out my hands in my childhood room and my fingers bump into old glue-to-the-ceiling stars. so very fucking glad.
Rejecting the âIâm not like other girls tropeâ isnât the high feminist praxis you think it is.Â
This is directed towards adults who do this and not younger women or girls who are coming to terms with the idea that everyone has an ambivalent relationship with what is expected of the category of sex. What I mean is that there comes a time where some girls may feel different and alienated from the performance of what is acceptable and they may find solace (or meaning?) in this difference that feels fundamental and then is turned into something valuable. I donât think acting like these girls are fundamental misogynists and anti-girl-power, as opposed to the adults that profit off writing and representing the trope, is the high feminist praxis that pop culture buzzfeed feminists think it is.Â
I have been thinking about this a lot (a LOT) recently, and Iâd like to add that many kids who went through a ânot like other girlsâ phase were likely to have been neurodivergent, not straight, or not girls in the end at all. Itâs also important to note that malice against âother girlsâ often stems from the fact that⌠âOther girlsâ arenât always very nice. I was socially excluded, patronised, and sneered at throughout my adolescent years (and starting as early as 8) for having strong interests in (nerdy) things, not dressing âgirlyâ or wearing makeup, and still wanting to play games and be a kid. Of course I thought I was âdifferentâ! But I didnât hate these girls and I didnât think I was better than them - more often than not, I wanted them to like and accept me. I think this experience is far more common than any discussion of this subject will have you think. Widespread ârejectionâ of this trope smacks of a refusal to critically evaluate how restrictive and oppressive the standards of femininity are and how women are often complicit in ostracising those who do not comply with them. I do think that the way a lot of media presents girls who think theyâre âdifferentâ is often misogynistic and doesnât reflect the reality of this phemomenon, but I havenât fully formulated my thoughts on this.

â[My wife] said, âYou know, weâve been together for nine years, and I think weâll be together for a long time. But you will never know what I really think of you, and I will never know what you really think of me.â And I said, âYeah, itâs kind of beautiful.ââ

BREAKING NEWS
I just learned about a bird species called Golden Plover. Their chicks have an amazing camouflage: their baby fluff resembles MOSS!
LOOK AT THEM! JUST LOOK AT THEM!
...Oh to be a tiny golden plover lying in the moss safe and sound waiting for your mom to bring you some worms...
@normal-horoscopes
ATTENTION: IT IS NOW TIME FOR MOSS
Reminds me of the "Tapera Naevia" aka Striped Cuckoo whose chicks look like Pine Cones, so now we have "Moss Birb" and "Pine Cone Birb"
