Somewhere between my husbands undying support and my mother's unending criticism is an accurate description of my skills.

I recently learned that people in NYC complain about how all of their tax money is being used to prop up the rest of the state. Which is fascinating because (at least where I am) we complain about how our tax money is going to prop up NYC.

Which begs the question- who is benefiting from us blaming each other and do they laugh all the way to the bank?

I think one of the reasons Carrot and Angua are seen as "having no chemistry" is because the current tropes in romance are very "dark brooding guy who is a jerk to everyone but the main protagonist breaks through his tough shell" and sometimes you just get a guy who's nice to everyone and the conflict is in whether he's being sweet because he likes you or because he's just sweet.

Also The Watch novels aren't a romance so their relationship isn't the center of the story, we don't know what they're like in private.

I remember hearing that in order to play someone drunk you need to play someone pretending to be sober and to play someone autistic you need to be playing someone pretending to be allistic.

Re reading discworld, kind of what to talk about the three potential representations of Judaism

1. There are kosher butcher shops, so there have to be actual Jews there, but they aren't mentioned in the story outside what they produce for others (not even in what they actually sell but in the fact that they can supply vampires with animal blood as a byproduct)

2. The Golems - based on Jewish mythology, have Yiddish names, have holidays that start at sunset that don't follow the general calendar, have an "escaping slavery" throughline. Kind of an outsiders view of Judaism which works well because an outsiders view isn't going to create a full complex person and (while Golems are definitely more complex than first meets the eye) that works with something that isn't quite a living being.

3. The Dwarfs - who feel incredibly Jewish in a way that I can't fully explain, both in the way that they have this very structured rule and tradition based society but also in the way that different Dwarfs have different relationships to those rules and traditions.
