one of my favorite weird history moments has got to be when american agents tasked with nixonâs security while he was in the soviet union as vice president under eisenhower detected unusual amounts of radiation in his hotel room so they discussed it loudly to each other to make sure the soviets knew that they knew since there were obviously bugs everywhere and the next day it just mysteriously went away and they never learned any more about it
life during the cold war was just whatever
The Soviets: What if we irradiated Nixon to try and give him radiation poisoning
Secret Service Agents the room over: WOW NIXONS ROOM SURE IS RADIOACTIVE! I SURE HOPE WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHERE ALL THIS RADIATION IS COMING FROM. THE RADIATION IN NIXONâS ROOM THAT IS. THE ONE WEâRE MONITORING SO CLOSELY WE EVEN BOTHERED TO TEST FOR RADIATION LEVELS.
The Soviets: fuck shit abort theyre onto us abort
*looks at you seductively* *lowers glasses* i canât see a thing
When the Nazi concentration camps were liberated by the Allies, it was a time of great jubilation for the tens of thousands of people incarcerated in them. But an often forgotten fact of this time is that prisoners who happened to be wearing the pink triangle (the Nazisâ way of marking and identifying homosexuals) were forced to serve out the rest of their sentence. This was due to a part of German law simply known as âParagraph 175â which criminalized homosexuality. The law wasnât repealed until 1969.
This should be required learning, internationally.Â
You need to know this. You need to remember this. This is not something to swept under the carpet nor be forgotten.Â
Never. Too many have died for the way they have loved. That needs stop now.Â
Make it stop?Â
I did a report on this in my World History class my sophomore year of high school. It was incredibly unsettling.
My teacher shown the class this. Mostly everyone in the class felt uncomfortable.Â
I have reblogged this in the past, but it is so ironic that it comes across my dash right now. I a currently working as a docent at my cityâs Holocaust Education Center (( I say currently because Iâve also done research and translation for them )) and out current exhibit is one on loan from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum ((USHMM)). This is a little known historical fact that Paragraph 175 was not repealed after the war and those convicted under Nazi laws as a danger to society because they were gay were not released because they had be convicted in a court of law. There was no liberation or justice for them as they werenât considered criminals, or even victims for that matter. They were criminals who remained persecuted and ostracized and kept on the fringes of society for decades after the war had been won. Paragraph175 wasnât actually repealed until 1994. And it was only in May 2002, that the German parliament completed legislation to pardon all homosexuals convicted under Paragraph175 during the Nazi era. History has forgotten about these men and women â please educate yourselves so this does not happen again. Remember this history. Remember them.
@mindlesshumor ok how the fuck did I miss this when Iâve studied The Holocaust like nobodyâs business??? wtf
Because the history we have left regarding it is literally the contents of this first hand account.
It is a thin little book.
When I first opened it, I wondered why it was so thin.
Why there wasnât other books like it.
Other first hand accounts.
By the time I finished it, I didnât wonder anymore.

An Underground Life: Memoirs of a Gay Jew in Nazi Berlin by Gad Beck
The Pink Triangle: The Nazi War Against Homosexuals by Richard Plant
Branded By The Pink Triangle by Ken Setterington
Bent by Martin Sherman (fiction; however, itâs often credited with bringing attention to gay Holocaust victims for the first time since the war ended)
This is one of the memorial sculptures in Dachau. Â It was erected in the early 60s and is missing the pink triangles. Â Because in the early 60s, homosexuality was still a crime in most of the world. Our tour guide explained why the pink triangles have not been added later - if they were, then folks would assume that they had always been there. Â This way people ask âwhy arenât there pink triangles?â and somebody can explain why - because in some ways, the rest of the world was as bass-ackwards as Nazi Germany.
so hereâs a quick lesson about having patience with kids.
I have a 6th grade student who isnât really interested in doing her homework (big surprise). from my experience, kids who arenât trying to do their homework usually fall into two general categories â âthis is too easy and therefore boringâ and âthis is too hard and therefore iâm not even going to attemptâ. it became clear by October that she fell into the latter group, but most of the staff chalked it up to âshe doesnât understand itâ. I didnât really believe it because she was a very smart, emotionally aware girl and it didnât seem like she didnât always want to try, just that she would rather do other things than struggle with her work.Â
yesterday, she got sent to my office, just so that she would have a space away from her friends to focus on her work, and she asked me to help her with two questions. I looked at them and they were fairly straightforward, simple questions about the results of using various amounts of force on an object. I did what I always do â I read the question out loud first, and then tried to help her use recall to figure it out. she did in a snap. I did the same with the second question, and before I even finished it, she went âOH!â and started writing her answer.
thatâs when it hit me â she doesnât have trouble with the material, she just has trouble reading and processing what sheâs reading at the same time. big difference! I asked her and she confirmed that it was easier to hear a question and understand it than to read it and understand it. so I got her phone out, pulled up her voice recorder, and told her to try reading the question aloud and then playing it back to herself so she could process it and she looked like i had handed her the holy grail.
the moral of the story is that sometimes you have to set aside what you think is a problem with a kid and just watch for whatâs easier for them. will she be able to do that during a test? maybe not, BUT now that she knows that the issue is processing reading and that sheâs an auditory learner, sheâs in a better position to ask for resources to help her work better in school.
so iâm off to the school counselor to let her know so she can possible get more tools for auditory learners. Â

While sitting in his high-chair, your baby drops the spoon. You get up, pick it up from the floor, give it back to Baby - only for him to throw it away on purpose.Â
If this scene sounds familiar to you, you might wonder why he does that. Is he rebellious and tries to upset you on purpose? Does he have a really silly kind of humor? No and no. In fact, your baby is busy conducting his very first scientific experiments. His brain is starting to understand two important concepts.Â
The first one is called âCause and Effectâ: When i throw away the spoon, mom picks it up. When i do it again, she does it again. Oh, yay!
The second is called âObject permanenceâ: When i throw away the spoon, it disappears - No, it doesnât, mom picks it up! Itâs still there, even when i canât see it!
To fully grasp these concepts, your baby needs to repeat those experiments again and again and again. Thatâs annoying to you - but try to smile at your little scientist!Â
Kids really are born scientists. Most things that babies and toddlers do are part of how they discover how the world works.
Whereâs that Scottish tweet about tfw dancing queen comes on in the club. Pleas.

MANDATORY REBLOG
This sounds like a lot, but itâs true. An estimated 100,000,000 sharks per year are killed, threatening many species with endangerment or extinction.
Scary predators are important to the ecosystem, too. Conservationâs not just about the panda bears.
Per hour. Not per week, not per day. PER. HOUR.

This is the funniest shit Iâve ever seen
Juniper the fox is in love with Moose the Australian Shepherd. Theyâre not only the best of friends, but she spends her days cuddling him, kissing him, hugging him, sitting on him (to claim ownership), and trying to get as much of his attention as she possibly can. Source Source 2
Juniperâs and Mooseâs mom, Jessika, posted some advice on Instagram in response to all the comments from people whoâd fallen in love with Juniper and said: âI WANT ONE!â
âFoxes are not like owning a dog or cat. Foxes smell. Bad. Their urine and feces smell like skunk mixed with ammonia. There is no way to âde-scentâ a fox. You cannot keep a fox indoors 24/7⌠Foxes are destructive, they will destroy things in your house⌠They also need taurine, or they can go blind, suffer from seizures, and even die. If you get a fox, you need to find a vet willing to treat one. Most vets will not treat foxes.â
âIf you are renting the property you live in/on, do NOT GET A FOX. Foxes cannot be boarded or sent to âdoggy daycare.â Kiss your vacations goodbye.â¨..  Foxes do not always âpotty train.â Some have success with a litter box, but others find that it is impossible. Even if you do train them, they will likely still mark or happy pee, which results in a skunky, musty odor. Foxes are easily stressed by new situations and people. They usually bond to one person and find exposure to new people and loud noises to be frightening⌠ Foxes do not always get along with dogs, and in fact, dogs are pretty likely to hate them.⨠Some foxes get aggressive despite the best efforts of their owners.â
âFood aggression is a huge issue. Iâve seen excellent owners struggle and struggle with aggression that can lead to bites. Foxes bite. Especially as babies. Foxes go through a stage known as âthe October crazies.â During this period they become standoffish and occasionally very aggressive. Foxes can make excellent companions and it is nice to serve as an ambassador for such a misunderstood and beautiful creature. But they are not for everyone.â
