«Wait, wait! Do another one!»
Felix laughs «Again?»
y/n bats her eyelashes «Please?» she begs in a whiny voice.
Felix rolls his eyes, but he can’t help but smiling «Fine, but this is the last one.»
Pathetic.
y/n claps her hands in excitement «Thank you!»
She wraps her arm around Felix’s neck, making him fall face flat on the pink sheets of her bed.
A few months had passed since the first time they actually talked and to everyone’s surprise - even Felix’s - they stared hanging out more everyday.
It started with a ‘is this seat taken?’ during Philosophy, then it quickly became a routine. Wether it was at lunch, in class or to watch the tournament Felix always kept an empty seat next to him, just in case she noticed him again and asked him. And she did.
When she asked if she could sit with the him and the other VKs at the semifinal, he almost died on the spot and Hazel genuinely choked on her food when she saw the two of them leaving mid-game to go talk somewhere more private.
The casual chats turned into groups hangouts - which were really just and excuse for Chloe and Hazel to see each other - and overtime Felix and y/n started not showing up to the groups hangouts, preferring each other's company.
Mostly, they stayed in her room talking about their lives for hours, sometimes doing absolutely nothing and just sitting in silence, but since she saw him do a card trick on some of the younger students she basically forced him to teach her how to do one.
Not that he minds, he would do anything to spend some time with her, it’s just - she’s bad. And not even in a ‘oh there’s room for improvement’ way, no, she’s a lost cause. Like, she couldn't be more terrible at it.
He has shown her thousands of tricks, from the easiest ones to the more complicated, but she couldn’t land one to save her life. She tried her hardest, she really did, but it was like the more she tried the more she was destined to fail.
«Wait, is this good?» y/n asks. She’s holding a card between her index and middle finger.
Felix gets closer «Okay, now move your wrist» gently he places a hand on her wrist and with a swift movement the card disappears «like that.»
The room falls quiet, y/n is looking at him eyes wide and her lips parted in disbelief.
«How did you do that?»
Felix shrugs his shoulders, but really his heart is racing.
She thinks he’s cool. She - y/n Leboueff, one of the most popular girls at school - thinks he is cool. All the compliments she told him, were for him. Really, for him. The real him, not what he made other people think he was.
«My sister taught me. It’s not that difficult.»
y/n raises an eyebrow «It’s not that difficult?» she turns to face him.
He’s sitting on the opposite side of her bed, his back against the headboard.«Okay, it is difficult. You just need time to practice.»
She rolls her eyes but her smile disappears when someone knocks on the door.
It’s not Chloe, she is out with Hazel and for sure it’s not Max, who is dead asleep in his dorm. It could be Pink who needs help with homework or it could be -
«Alban! Hi!»
Felix suddenly interrupts the shuffling. What did he want again? He couldn’t make out what he was saying, his tone was low, like he knew he was there.
Also, Felix hated how y/n changed when he and her friends weren’t around. Her voice changed, it became more high pitched, less vulnerable. Her posture changed, too. All of a sudden her back straightened and she grew a few centimeters taller.
«Oh, already? I forgot about that.» Felix still has no idea what they’re talking about.
He sees the prince leaning in and whispering something in y/n’s ear, then he waits. Felix can see him leaning on the doorway, a weird smirk on his face. What is he still doing there? And why is he looking at her like that?
«So?» y/n lets out a nervous laugh
«I’ll let you know, bye.» she spits out the words with urgency and doesn’t wait for him to leave to lock the door behind her.
Felix can’t repress a snort when she sits on the edge of the bed with a disgusted expression on her face.
«It’s not funny.» she mumbles.
He gets closer, his head rests on her shoulder. He notices she’s holding a little teal-colored envelope. Like she can read his mind, her hand opens just enough so he can take the letter and read it. He doesn’t need to though, because she explains him everything.
«It’s Perl’s birthday in a week and she’s hosting this gorgeous party - »
«And we’re not invited.» Felix finishes her sentence.
It wasn't news, the VKs - especially his group that was formed by a pirate - weren’t exactly welcome at a party hosted by the daughter of Ariel and Eric. But sometimes it got pretty horrible not being welcome anywhere.
Celia had told him that thing would’ve gotten better overtime, but right now he wasn’t so sure about it.
«I’m not going.» she break the silence.
«You told Alban you were going to think about it.» he argues.
«Well, I lied.»
«Look at that. You lied. That’s not very princess-like.»
She snaps her head at him, she looks… mad?
No, she’s not mad.
Felix can't make up how she's feeling. Her eyes are sad, but her lips are stiff.
«Can you stop with the princess-y crap, please?» and her voice almost sounds hurt.
Felix stares at her from the bed. Even now, half mad and tired, her face pale and worried he can’t help but be amazed by her.
«What?»
He shakes his head and taps a spot on the mattress, asking her to sit next to him, which she does. Felix takes her hand and locks his eyes in hers.
«You’re scaring me.» she whispers.
He cracks a smile, then promptly returns serious.
«Why did you wait for me?»
That’s something he’s been waiting to ask her for a long time, since that day after class, but he never took the courage. He could never admit it to himself, but he was scared of the answer. He was terrified she would reply something stupid like “because it was the right thing to do.”
She lets go of his hands.
«Real or fake answer?»
Felix raises an eyebrow, she knows which answer he wants, even if it’s not what he wants to hear.
y/n sights.
There it was, he knows he’s about to be disappointed. He almost doesn’t let her talk, he’s already expecting the worst, but he needs to hear it.
«I guess I just wanted an excuse to talk to you.»
Wait, what?
That’s not at all what he thought he was about to hear.
«Are you serious?»
She nods quickly, still looking at him.
«And I also needed to escape Alban, but that came second, I swear.»
«I just - I always thought you weren’t just what you wanted everyone to think about you. Like, I get it, you’re Dr Facilier’s son but you aren’t just that. I was curious and waiting for you in class was the safest option to talk to you.»
«Why did you follow me?» she doubles down.
«Didn’t have anything better to do.» he grins.
She lightly punches him in the shoulder and he slips. Felix grabs her wrist, making her fall right beside him.
She rests her head on the pillow and he does the same.
«What?» she asks, again.
«Nothing, I like your smile.»
That just makes her smile even wider and Felix’s heart crushes.
«I’m pretty sure you told me that the first time we spoke.»
«You remember it?»
«Are you kidding? That was the only thing Chloe heard for like a week!»
«You could only talk about that for a week?»
«Okay, I liked you and you had just complimented me. Of course I could only talk about that!»
A beat drops.
«You liked me?»
«Wasn’t that obvious?»
«Uhm, no?»
She laughs. «Well, I did, and I still do.»
Felix reacts before his brain can register what he’s doing.
His lips are pressed on hers. They are soft, sticky from the lip gloss, but he doesn’t care.
It takes her a second to respond, Felix is about to let go when he feels her hand on his cheek and the kiss merge into a smile. He breaks the kiss, her gloss is smudged on his lips.
They stare at each other for a few seconds, maybe a minute, maybe more. Their breaths synchronized, their lips parted in a smile.
Then, someone knocks, again.
y/n isn’t even thinking about opening the door, it’s probably Alban, again.
«Hello? Is anyone there?»
It’s not Alban, it’s Chloe.
y/n jumps on the bed and races at the door.
«I’m so sorry! I didn’t hear you.» she opens the door and is welcomed by a confused Chloe.
«Well, I figured» then she notices Felix standing next to her friend’s bed like a lost puppy «everything alright?»
y/n nods a little too quickly and Felix heads out their dorm, but he stops mid-way.
«You know, you can go to the party. I don’t care.»
«Oh don’t worry, I wasn’t going to go. They’re not much fun anyways.»
«Everybody was talking about it last year.»
«Yeah, that’s cause they had a dolphin. Like an actual one. That was really cool.»
«She’s never gonna top last year.» agrees Chloe.
y/n follows Felix in the hallway, he doesn’t go just yet.
«If you want to go, I really don’t mind.»
«I don’t care about that stupid party.» she whispers
Felix smiles and lets her hand go. «Goodnight.» he kisses her forehead before leaving.
y/n closes the door behind her, but Felix doesn’t move. He's leaning against the wall of her dorm and smiles like an idiot when he hears the excited screams and squeals from behind him.
