i'm working on a full gifset of the trailer rn but i just needed to highlight this shot for a second.

i'm a violinist, so i can't come from a cellist's perspective, but i can come from a string instrument perspective.

this is probably the best faking of a string instrument i've ever seen? maybe my view is skewed because i love him and his acting, but when i heard about him playing a cellist, i planned on going into this with a more critical eye than a lot of others probably did.

the bow hold is REALLY good. he's actually using his wrist instead of his shoulder. he's got great back posture (!!), and his left hand is doing REALLY well. the little bit of vibrato with his pinky at the end is insane

and the fact that his bow strokes are matching up with the notes he looks to be playing?? he's on the right strings at the right time??

this is going to be my entire personality until december jfc

I agree that this is the best fakery I've ever seen. Can I tell he's not a player? Sure. But HE STUDIED. Agree with everything up above. I too was like HE'S USING HIS WRIST. HIS BOW ISN'T SLIPPING AROUND--IT'S STAYING PARALLEL WITH HIS BRIDGE AND HE'S ACTUALLY PULLING HARD ENOUGH TO VIBRATE THE STRINGS. HE'S PLACING HIS FINGERS WITH CONFIDENCE AND THE PROPER WEIGHT. HE FUCKING LEARNED VIBRATO (I CAN'T EVEN EXECUTE VIBRATO WELL).

Are there some tells that he's not a lifelong player? Absolutely. But you can have bad learned habits and still be an excellent player, so that all still works.

But you can usually tell a fake right away because tension or fingering or bow slide is off. This? He learned to do this and pull it off? To the point where there WILL be people asking if he actually plays cello?

He doesn't just look like he knows what he's doing...he looks NATURAL DOING IT.

Amazing. AMAZING. I love him already, but this is, to me, the single most impressive thing he's pulled off so far. Hands to the fucking ground.

He's an amazing mimic and a hard student and he's good at making you believe a thing. I can't stand how much fucking talent he gets to hoard.

This! Okay, so I think he's a beautiful person inside and out, but I'm also very honest and it takes a lot more than that to sway my opinion.
