What does it feel like to be lonely? It feels like being hungry: like being hungry when everyone else around you is readying for a feast. It feels shameful and alarming, and over time these feelings radiate outwards, making the lonely person increasingly isolated, increasingly estranged. It hurts, in the way that feelings do, and it also has physical consequences that take place invisibly, inside the closed compartments of the body. It advances, is what I’m trying to say, cold as ice and clear as glass, enclosing and engulfing.

Happy people learn that happiness, like sweat, is a by-product of activity. You can only achieve happiness if you are too busy living your life to notice whether you are happy or not.

Moving is thinking of tomorrow, and not yesterday. Thinking of a new love, and not the previous one. Forgetting how they made you feel, whether good or bad. Forgetting how much you really cared about them. Forgetting about what they might be doing, and who they might be with. Thinking of yourself. Protecting yourself. Thinking of tomorrow, and not yesterday.

I wish I had a someone who would observe me silently, who would capture all my habits and quirks, and still love me. Someone that would get lost in how my fine features define my face, while smiling or crying, and still love me.

If you can love someone with your whole heart, even one person, then there’s salvation in life. Even if you can’t get together with that person.

The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life, and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of people.

Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.
