This video promotes the benifits and joy of training with a focus on movement and movement skills as apposed to a more mainstream approach to fitness training.  It was a fun weekend project filmed in Hamburg.

Always kind of wanted to tell this so,

Back in middle school I hung out at the skate park a lot and one of my buddies there told me about it. Well being I love rock climbing/climbing in general it sounded fun.

So I looked it up and found some basic vaults. I pretty much just vaulted over things until I got a job at 16. That was when I started feeling comfortable enough to look for more advance things to do.

So I looked for some groups and found the CaPk group that meets at Balboa Park in San Diego. They helped me a lot with technique, form, and the general frame of mind involved in Parkour.

This was about the time when Free-Running started to get some attention so there was a lot of new people looking to free run. This group made a decision to be inclusive to these people but at the same time stand against competition. It made for a good atmosphere where everyone had each other’s back and were offering tips to each other, helping everyone get better.

A good group like that is really helpful for advancing and just makes Parkour more fun. We would play capture the flag, do a follow the leader-esque flow runs, and spot people if they were attempting something they weren’t 100% confident they were going pull it off. 

I consider joining that group as the point when I officially started doing Parkour but like all things I spent time dipping my feet in it for years before jumping in.

At the weekly meet-ups I would just work on weak points, like try walking a rail all the way across to get better balance. I got a little better every week and once I had something done there was always something new to try. 

So by slowly working up to things I got to the point where I am at now. I used to do flips but I have stopped in recent years, partly because I am out of practice and partly because I had a pretty severe fall while doing a flip a bit back and I never really felt comfortable flipping over cement after that.

So my group has a tradition that I thought might be of interest to the community.

Every full moon my group meets and does some night time freerunning/ parkour in the light of the moon. It really is a fun and if you are used to training in the hot day, quite refreshing.

So I am telling you all about this because I had an idea that this could be a community wide trend.

So here is what I will love to see; Freerunners/ traceurs/ traceuses go out with their friends/group during the full moon, and take some pictures.
