Omg I'm sorry this took so long to do, but randomly I got inspiration for this since it's been crazy slow at work. I honestly really like how this turned out and will hopefully find a spot for it in Fiona's actual story. I hope you enjoy!!
The wind blew through the field moving Sabo’s blond curls all about as he laid in the grass. The tree above creaked and rustled as the wind pushed against the branches and leaves, the shadows of them dancing over him. A relaxed smile was on his face as he closed his eyes and laid back on his hands. The month-long mission was finally over and after an annoying battle with some rebels in the city there was time to relax.
The chief of staff let out a contented sigh through his nose. The fighting the mission required had taken a toll on him, sore muscles still screaming at him, but the end results were worth the soreness. Seeing the people’s happy and relieved faces were always worth the mission.
Sabo took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air and not the gun smoke and iron smell of blood from the battle hours ago. It was clear and clean and not some foul smell that would unfortunately be on his clothes even by the time he got back to headquarters.
“There you are!”
Peeking open an eye, Sabo smiled as he saw the familiar brunette walking, actually stomping, up to him. His smile grew into a cheeky grin as Fiona reached him and stood over him, her body casting a shadow. As he looked up at her he watched the sun shine through her hair, released from its braid now that the battle was over. The wind blew her hair off her shoulder and the sun created an almost halo like image around her that made the blond man’s grin go back to a smile, warm and admiring.
“Everyone’s been looking for you!” Fiona exclaimed, placing her hands on her hips. “Some of us have been loading the boat with supplies and others have been helping the citizens and you’ve been napping? Seriously, Sabo?” She groaned, rubbing her forehead.
“Hey now,” Sabo said, sitting up on his elbows. “I helped out. I cleared up some of the debris on my way over here. Even reunited a boy with his mother. I think I did my share.”
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Sabo,” she grumbled under her breath. “Come on, we need to get to the ship.”
“Relax, angel,” Sabo said, grabbing her hand. “We can spare some time to relax.”
He yanked her arm, pulling her down making her squeal before landing on top of him. Sabo laughed as he caught her and held her to his chest, burying his face in her hair. He took a deep breath and placed a kiss on her head. Even after a battle she still smelled faintly of vanilla and baked goods.
“Sabo, seriously, knock it off,” Fiona said as she pushed herself up to stare down at her boyfriend. “The rest of the crew will be heading over to the ship soon once they finish helping the city. We need to start heading over there or we’ll make everyone wait.”
The smile on Sabo’s face remained as he watched Fiona scold him. Even when she was angry he couldn’t help but admire her. Reaching a hand up he cupped her cheek, his thumb rubbing against the curve of it. A chuckle left him when he saw red cover her cheeks.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” he murmured.
Fiona’s heart jumped, just as it always did when he complimented her, and she felt her cheeks burn even more. “Stop that,” she stated, trying to sound angry despite the way her voice cracked ever so slightly.
Sabo laughed and placed a kiss on her lips. “I love you.”
Sighing, Fiona gave a small smile in return. “ I love you too, goof,” she returned. She kissed the tip of his nose and climbed off him. “Now come on, we need to get going. Please.”
“Alright, alright,” the chief of staff said, feigning an exhausted groan.
He followed her up off the ground and grabbed her hand, leading her through the field and back to the city. He grinned at her as he heard a soft “Finally” from his girlfriend.
