Remember the first time we see Furiosa?

From the back, walking towards the War Rig?

Which is parked in front of the lift, with the tanker coming down behind it to be hooked on? Facing Joe’s Tower and the waterfall?

She didn’t come down from where all the other warboys were, from where the War Rig was parked, she’s coming from the other direction, on foot.

Now I know that’s probably just an aesthetic choice for the camera, but please unleash your worldbuilding hypotheses.

She exchanged some words with the guys from the car in front and then returned to her rig? But why would she take her wheel with her... so it wouldn't get stolen? Idk. OR, if you turn to page 36 of The Art of Mad Max, you can see that the Citadel had two towers with lifts! Maybe the lift that's shown here is the one on the left of the concept art, and she's coming from the middle one? Related: did she get her wheel from the altar or is there another place she stores it?

Indeed! On the Tight Pants scale I would give him a respectable 7.5/10, since they are indeed leather and offer a fair estimation of the shape of his legs. It’s not much against Charlize Theron/Furiosa’s 9.5, or original Gibson Max’s solid 10/10 (maybe 11/10 for bonus squeak) but still solidly above your average person on the street.

You just answered your own question: they’re like most men in our world and so they benefit from the same narratives of warped priorities/perspectives that white men in our world benefit from. The instinctive sympathy and sense that they are very important and they deserve attention/to be cared for and thought about no matter what they’ve done, compared with other people who are automatically placed outside the narrative of worth/sympathy. The abuse apologism. The admiration/desire. White men have been and continue to be at the center of most narratives. People cut their teeth from the time they’re children on media that communicates that they are Real People and everyone else is Other. The lesson goes deep. The practices of emotional connection, narrative identification, imaginary play, all influenced by that on the deepest level. So when a narrative comes along that invites a different kind of identification, that puts women at the center, it’s uncomfortable not to have men there for many people.

I’m just grateful Joe himself was depicted as physically repulsive so we don’t get as much apologism/admiration for him. There’s still some, but not as much as there might be. Unfortunately, I look at a situation like Kilgrave coming up and I know in my guts that a lot of people are going to engage in abuse apologism/endless sympathy and admiration for him.

…the creators of Jessica Jones should have made him old and fat and pustule covered so folks would get the message.

You know, maybe we need to find out what ‘Vuvalini’ means, because yes in the film it’s a group comprised entirely of women, and the Green Place is implied to be matriarchal, but like, that doesn’t mean there were no men. Just, maybe, maybe, for once, they weren’t the ones pushing to the front to tell the story.

IMHO ‘The Vuvalini who stayed behind’ probably means a community of all genders, I don’t see much of a point in drawing a line here.

(I keep catching myself trying to explain the reason why there would be such an unusual thing as a group of only women out there and then ten seconds later remember that I wouldn’t feel the need to do that for any of the classic all-male groups media has given us over the years. D’oh.)
