no one talks about this, and that is not okay.
its okay to be half-way depressed. its okay to have anxious tendencies but not have every single symptom. its okay to not be diagnosed, or to have habits you canât even begin to explain. in the media, and any and all modes of communication, we hear about what depression is supposed to be like. what someone with an eating disorder is supposed to feel or do. i could go on and on but you get my point. we keep being told that neurodivergence, and mental illness can only exist in one form. guess what? its the human brain. there is no strict set of requirements that tells you youâre mentally ill, if there was and everyone neatly fit into those requirements? life would be a hell of a lot easier. the reality is, everyones experience is different. you can be ADD/ADHD, without being twitchy or having tics. you can be depressed, and simultaneously self-efficacious. you can be socially anxious, while also being outgoing. and on and on the list goes.Â
not having the same experience as someone else, doesnât mean youâre faking. there is no âtheyâre right so i must be wrongâ. that is absolute bullshit. your experience, your struggles, whatever they may be, are valid, and unique. this doesn't mean you're alone, it just means that there is no reasonable way to compare yourself to others. in this way its apples and oranges, only every single human being is a different fruit. some of them bruise the same, some of them even look similar, but base level, theyâre all different somehow, and they have. different. needs.
essentially, what matters is that you pay attention to yourself. what do you need. not anyone else. there are so many ways to be different, and those differences result in different needs.
so stop paying attention people telling you what you need. its bullshit. at the end of the day, youâre in charge of yourself. the only expert who really truly knows you and your needs? thats you. other people can help, and theres nothing wrong with seeking that help. but donât ever let someone tell you what you, yourself, need.
