This is SUPER helpful, thank you @cazort!
The "i accidentally reported you" scams that run on discord, insta, bsky, and tumblr, all follow this same script as the scam that started on Steam!
If you know how it works, and what to look out for, you will know how to avoid it!
Remember: Never change your email or password to something that another user tells you to. Never give them 'one time codes' or 'pass codes to verify your account' that are sent to your phone or email. That will lock you out of your account and give THEM access to it.
Think about it logically:
If you were reported by someone, why would staff then have the person who reported you, contact you to tell you about it, and then tell you to contact a staff member?
Why would the staff member not contact you themselves via that websites official email? Because it's a scam, that's why!
Tumblr staff will NOT contact you outside of official emails regarding issues involving your account. Nor will Steam, Discord, Insta, Facebook, or even or Paypal.
None of these websites have an 'official staff member on Discord' that you need to contact to 'get your case resolved.'
Anyone telling you otherwise is trying to scam you.
Please remember to take screenshots and report these users, and please report them on Discord too, even if that means adding them and going along with it just to report them and get the account flagged.
If you know how to make valid reports to report an account and gather proper evidence of a scam, do it! You're not just helping yourself, you're helping save others from being scammed by getting those accounts banned.
If you don't know how to do these things, please just report, block, and ignore. Don't bait them or try to rile them up, and definitely don't give them 'tips' on how to make their scam more believable.
