Being an adult means sharing space with assholes. There's gonna be shit you need to do, and the only way to get it is by working with one or more huge assholes. They're not evil. They're not gonna hurt you. Usually they're not even bad people, they're just assholes. And you gotta know how to share space with em.

Being an adult means accepting that you're an asshole sometimes. You can try your very best, and still come off like a huge asshole. It's just gonna happen. You gotta know how to say "Hey man, I was being an asshole. Sorry about that. Won't happen again."

yanno a hyperspecific trope i cant get enough of. when a character is made out of a piece of another character’s personality or soul or whatever the series is working with, usually something negative like all of their anger or cowardice or something like that, and then still develops into their whole fully developed person. like yeah this is SHADOW JOE he was made of all of all the darkness in joe’s heart but he chilled out. we go bowling on weekends. still looks like joe but made of pure darkness with glowing red eyes but we’ve all got our quirks

That’s what we call growth.

I think the part about “I still feel like I’m right even though I know I’m wrong” bit is a really important and easily overlooked part of growth. That almost always happens in cases like this: that you’re rationally convinced that something you’ve always taken for granted is actually an injustice, but your feelings are still the feelings that have been shaped by your life up to this point. That doesn’t make you a bad person, and it doesn’t mean you’re some kind of natural-born bigot or that you are incapable of improving. Keep sitting with those feelings, and with the realities that led you to be persuaded, and keep an open mind as you explore, and they will come into alignment over time.
