I have one word for you! RANCHERS. I ADORE THEM SO MUCH. And with the fear that I might never write my TTABTT!Rancher one-shot, here is the whole backstory of Jimmy and Tango in βTo Teach a Bird To Trustβ! (That's why this ask took so long for me to respond to, sorry!)
Jimmy bounced around houses a lot in his childhood. As a hybrid orphan, he was dealt a terrible hand, often being blamed for the bad luck that followed him. But his luck must not have been that bad if he managed, by pure chance, to bump into Tango, a fire hybrid who had been caught in a terrible rainstorm unprepared. Thankfully, Jimmy had an umbrella and protected him from the rain. And while Jimmy never saw him again afterwards, he never forgot that night. The first time he had ever seen another hybrid and also the first time he had been shown kindness.
Years passed; Jimmy aged out of the system, hid his hybridness completely, got control over his life, and lived it exclusively in solidarity. He liked living alone, talking to no one, drinking with his head down; at least that was what he told himself. However, one evening, after visiting a new spot for liquid comfort, a rainstorm started- a real brutal one. He had no umbrella and was now stuck in the entryway of the pub until it calmed down. Just his luckβ¦
Then, he felt warmth by his side. He turned to see that fire hybrid from all those years ago. Now returning the favour and shielding him from the rain. They sparked up a conversation that flowed so easily as Tango walked him home. And then he stayed the night. And the night after that. And soon, they became one unit, and Jimmy joined the group at the pub. No labels really fit them; boyfriend was too light and unserious, and neither cared for marriage, so they just stayed as Jimmy and Tango. The two have a dream to eventually move out of the city to a farm in the countryside, be completely independent and tend to animals in their spare time. The pet name Rancher now a silent decree to their shared dream.
Some parts of their story do get mentioned briefly, like how the two lost their jobs and nearly became homeless. It was in the winter, when they couldnβt afford heating, and Tango got drastically ill because of it. After that, Jimmy swore to do anything to protect him. And he did. Which gained the attention of Xβ¦
Also, because I didn't do TTABTT!Jimmy's song in this ask, I'm letting you all know now it is Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish.
Grian and Pearl carry the memory of their sibling with them everywhere they go. Every time they speak to each other, Grian can only see the too-small infant he met so many years ago, and Pearl can only see the kid with dreams bigger than his head, most focused on his studies than anything to do with her.

I really struggled with both this chapter and the art that has gone with it (which is why I'm including the sketches so you understand how many changes I made lmao). I'm worried about how readers are going to react, especially with a certain character regressing and the dreaded (sorta?) miscommunication trope. Know that 1. I adore TTABTT!Pearl and I am going to branch her character out more and 2. Grian has a lot of self-worth issues that do not excuse his actions but explain them, and you are allowed to be mad at him lmao. Anywho, have some sketches!

Quick preface, which is obvious but I feel I need to say: Minor DNI with this post. I know it doesn't stop them, but I want it to be clear that I am extremely uncomfortable with minors reading ahead.
Anyway. CW: Sexual content (duh), fine detail on fantasy reproductive anatomy, egglaying (minor), size difference (minor), trans male character talked about sexually (but with all-male terms), mentioned gender dysphoria

Now that I have your attention, I'm gonna talk about hybrid penises! There are the more obvious ones. Wolf-hybrids would have a knot. Hybrids that are horse or horse-adjacent (for example, four-legged), or bigger than usual, would have larger and longer anatomy for mating between two of the same hybrids to be possible, though that would obviously cause an issue (or not an issue at all depending on how you look at it!) between interspecices couples. Fire hybrids run hot in every single way, from their blood to even their cum, even capable of burns if it has been a while. Now, dragon hybrids, because they are completely fantastical animals, I can truly do anything to that. And if it's up to me, it's a tentacle that can lay an egg inside so the receiver doesn't even have to make their own, making interspecies coupling more common with this group. Also, horns in all hybrids can be quite sensitive at the base and are taboo for anybody but lovers to touch. Does that have any scientific backing? No. Just fun.
But I know that what everybody wants to know is the wonderful cloaca and how that works! /s. The more I have thought about it, the more I think that there would be an external part, instead of it being entirely internal. My headcanon is that it would be likely to what the people in the uh... Bowuigi fandom I used to be in would do it. Turns out turtle and bird anatomy are similar and have to be worked around for writing any good smut scene and also so that any sort of interspecies mating could occur. And in said stories, they had it where the internal part would slide out of the cloaca and become a more human-like dick. Again, this is just a headcanon; you can imagine it however you want if you want to imagine it at all. But in my head, I think it would likely have a different appearance, like a darker colour, no head or foreskin, perhaps on average smaller(?), and would be quite... wet. For it to slide out more easily, it replicates what an AFAB body would do and makes its own lubricant when stimulated. So, foreplay is an absolute must.
Sorry if this sounds incredibly awkward; that's because this is to me, haha. Not in a bad way, just have this fear that this sounds incredibly strange. I have only written a handful of smut in my life, all hidden by anonymous usernames, so openly talking about this is quite bizarre.
Anyway, with all this biology out of the way, what does this mean for TTABTT!Scar and Grian? Well, lots of fun for starters.
I want to preface that in any content outside of this AU, I envision Grian as the dom, some out of spite and some because of how I view their dynamic, but that all goes out the window because of just how much of a loser (affectionate!!) I have made TTABTT!Grian. I cannot see him being anything but a very selfless lover because of just how grateful he would be that he's able to give the amazing, stunning, attractive Scar head (and I feel he also has a lot to make up for by the end of the story lmao). And with him being demi-sexual, I could see him also seeing sex more as a bonding experience and to make Scar feel good.
Doesn't mean that Scar doesn't give back. I see him as a confident sex pest. Definitely had quite a few partners and knows his way around the bedroom, and isn't afraid to admit it. Meanwhile, Grian hasn't had many, if any, experiences and is deeply ashamed of his romantic feelings, let alone his SEXUAL feelings. This all boils down to the fact that even though Scar is a trans guy, I still think he tops. I feel like if I made this AU where Scar is a disabled trans guy to be the one where I flip the usual roles, it would feel kinda... I don't have the exact word, but it doesn't sit right with me. Not that people can't write that dynamic! I am so openly for more trans!Scar in literally any capacity, so I am not going to judge; just personally, I think the idea of straps are very compelling, and I can't believe I haven't found a story with one despite how many trans!Grian fics there are.
Just imagine with me. It can be any size, even fantastical. It can vibrate or be specially tailored for G-spot stuff (because yeah, I'm adding that stuff to Avians even though it makes no sense for them to have those parts; I want Grian to do butt stuff, so...). The possibilities are endless!
I can see that, for casual quick sex, Grian would top for convenience's sake, but only if Scar felt comfortable with it, and he'd still be the dom. So I guess the two are verse? But on that topic, I feel like Scar would sit down with Grian near the start of their relationship and throw down how he doesn't want any female terms for his parts, hole and dick only; anything else or any hands on his chest (shirt kept on the whole time) will immediately shut down the sex like a kill switch. Scar would say something like 'I'm not anybody you've been with before', and Grian would say 'I've literally been with nobody else and I've peaked as high as this mountain goes, so trust, I will memorise those rules into my brain with a chisel.' Cue Grian locked in the bathroom frantically researching what to do with a t-dick. Inexperienced but willing to learn.
WAS THIS TOO MUCH?! I have thought a lot about doing a smut one-shot, and I think it is very obvious. One idea is of the two having a... biology lesson, one being self-indulgent and being Scar cherry-popping Grian, and one idea before the big Phantom identity reveal, with Scar being into the anonymous aspect of it and using the number he got for non-heist-related activities. I have literally never talked about my nsfw ideas before, so please tell me if I have done anything wrong. MAN THIS WAS A LOT. SORRY FOR RAMBLING.
It just occurred to me that this likely is in context to this ask when I said I wouldn't go into too much detail about hybrid reproductive anatomy because it wasn't part of the original ask, but now I'm not sure what details you want. Please come back and tell me if you want, like, how it would work, biology style, or how it would work freaky scarian style. Both I am very keen to answer lmao.

I will legit never mention this in the story unless I write that explicit one-shot idea I have, but as an avian hybrid, he does not have nipples. If anybody ever asked about it, say in a changing room, gym shower, or going to the beach, he'd give a different excuse each time. 'I lost them in a bet.' 'They were blown off during the war'. 'They fell off from stress'. 'Wait, what? WHERE ARE THEY?!'
He wears a skin-tight body suit as a disguise; any self-respecting man with nipples would see the glaring issues with that lmao.

Like normal egg? Egg inside womb hatch in womb eat egg shell so egg shell won't be stuck in the womb?
Or give birth like a human?
Also if they do lay eggs how about a non hybrid is going to give birth to one?
Is the baby who may or not develop sharp Features hurt inside the womb? Are there likely to be more human like?
Is it strange that I actually have an answer to all of this, or even stranger that I am SO GLAD somebody asked? The topic of fantasy biology and reproduction is very interesting to me as somebody who had a special interest in pregnancy due to my own future goals of being a seahorse dad. So, without further ado, it's time for the 'Where Baby Come From' Hybrid Talk!
I'm leaving this under a read more as I do not want to upset anybody who does NOT in any capacity want to hear about CW: birth, pregnancy, sex, infant death, and all the gross stuff that comes from that, so you've been warned.
Just as a warning, I am not a doctor in any shape or form. This is likely to be inaccurate medical hell, but right now, in my head, this is how it works.
I think I'll start with the usual hybrid and hybrid child. Most hybrids, aside from a few, will give birth like a usual mammal. There might be some differences, like fire hybrids will be fireless on their heads, and any child with sharp features will be without them. Anything that would harm the birthing person is bred out for survival reasons, like how baby goats don't get their horns until a month after they're born.
The exceptions are hybrids that are not mammals. For example, slime hybrids reproduce like their DnD inspiration, by merging together and creating a small slimeling by mitosis. Egg-laying hybrids are made to lay eggs. Avians and dragons have a shorter pregnancy, perhaps 4-6 months, so that when they are ready to lay, the egg is about the size of a fully grown child and can be pushed out without the shell breaking. Remember that a human can open 10 cm, so the anatomy doesn't need to change a lot for that aspect. The placenta remains within the egg to give the baby nutrition. Then the egg is kept warm and nurtured like usual until they are ready to come out at full term.
The real issue comes with interspecies babies. They are rare for a reason. Not only because of the discrimination that divides the two groups but also because of... compatibility. I won't go too into detail because it wasn't in the original ask, but I have thought about what the downstairs business of a hybrid would look like. Birds have cloacas, one hole for all their business. Do avians have that? Or a mix of both human parts and bird?? I really don't know, and I'm going to leave it at that. All I'll say is that whether it's a tentacle, pronged, corkscrew, spiked, or a bizarre combination of all of that, some parts are not compatible. Not just with that, but if the body doesn't outright refuse to let a baby begin in the first place, a pregnancy would be rough.
Let's take Scar and Grian as an example, as I have thought about potentially putting my sea dad urges onto Scar before. I think a pregnancy would be very difficult for him, for many reasons, but one being that his body was not made to build an egg. It was easier for, say, Jimmy to be born because his mother was an avian while his father was a human, so his mother was made for it, even though there were likely issues with Jimmy being large and being "late" in a typical avian pregnancy. Meanwhile, Scar would have to deal with lots more complications. If he were to lay an egg, it would be weak and not full of nutrition, likely to break during birth, leaving the child vulnerable and unlikely to survive. The egg could also stay too long, his body wanting to do the full term, injuring the womb and organs, and would cause great bleeding and excessive tears if done naturally. If he does not lay an egg, he'd instead have to deal with pushing out a baby with wings. Small, undeveloped wings, but still something that can snag or cause issues. ALSO THE FACT THAT SCARLET MACAWS CAN LAY ONE TO FOUR EGGS.
Yes, the potential angst is thriving, unlike their hypothetical Scarian child. Just know that no matter what, an avian child, half-breed or not, will always be really Really ugly. And if they are successful, Grian would absolutely be baby blind and show all their friends their creation, despite the obvious horror on their faces.

How much does the animal that a hybrid is affect things about the person besides looks? Like can the birds see glass, does Ren have dog vision instead of human, ect
Also if the birds can't see glass, have jimmy, grian and or pearl ever flown/walked into a window?

YEESSSS! Thank you so much for sending in an ask so I can infodump about hybrids!! Ahem *cracks my knuckles* let me begin.
A hybrid being a hybrid changes so much more than just looks; their five senses, diets, organs, habitability, and even developmental and age expectations are all changed with varying severities. Imagine each hybrid as their own species, a subsection that had broken off the human tree a very long time ago. As an example, Ren would have dog vision! Or at least he is as colourblind and short-sighted as a dog haha. But he does have heightened hearing and scent to compensate!
It is canon that Jimmy has heightened hearing, Pearl can see a lot better in the dark, and Grian's eyes are a lot better at recognition, just like their bird counterparts! I found out in my research that Macaws can see more colours than humans can, which includes UV light to figure out the ripeness of fruit, and while avians usually have a poor sense of smell, Scarlet Macaws have been noted to be able to smell ripe fruit. So uh, fun fact, Grian is really good at figuring out what fruit to buy at the market.
And this also means that they cannot see glass. I know that the reason birds cannot see glass is because of their brain capacity rather than anything to do with their vision, but COME ON, it would be SO FUNNY! I feel like it would be quite easy to spot the hidden avian by putting them in a glass maze lmao. Absolutely, Grian and Pearl have both flown into a skyscraper at some point, but you gotta imagine they'd learn to expect glass like a survival instinct lmao. Revolving doors, greenhouses, the many Many glass doors that lead to yards and shopping centres, it would be a NIGHTMARE. A very funny nightmare but still.

Thank you again for the question. I have a word doc full of worldbuilding details I will likely never get to use haha. For example, did you know that because avian infants are fed seeds, fruits, and worms, avian hybrids don't have nipples like a mammal would? Did this thought only occur to me because I am preparing for top surgery and found out that some trans guys just decide not to have nipples, which is literally the coolest thing ever to look at? Perhaps. But that's besides the point; the point is that I'm a massive fantasy nerd, and I've nerded out far too much over this story lmao.
I find so funny how in ttabatt Grian is buffer but Scar still is much taller than him. When Scar gains more confidence with Phantom, he should use him as an armrest just to tease him
Grian, despite his attempt to get bigger by width, is the shortest person in the entire fic and every one of his friends have at some point either made fun of him or placed their arm/head on top of his head. Even people like Gem and Tango who are only a few inches taller than him. He has three very distinct feelings about it depending on the person as shown above.
That is a wonderful idea by the way hehehehehe I love that and I really hope to add that in a scene because it is very cute <333
I feel like I don't mention it in the story very much but Grian is touch adverse in general expect for very few people. I always imagine him as demisexual and demiromantic and even with plantonic relationships it takes him a while to be comfortable with them, especially with touch. And I defiently thought about that when I wrote how much Scar and Grian touch and also the Jimmy and Grian hugs.
ALSO I know pride month is over but I am making it canon that TTABTT!Mumbo is aroace. Mostly becaus I adore that headcanon and also because I think it would be sweet that Grian bonded with him about it as before Scar he never really liked anybody before. Scar and Mumbo did date before the story because Mumbo thought 'if I'm going to like anybody, it would be Scar'. Though after a few great but uncomfortable months, it became clear that it wasn't what he wanted and the two remained friends afterwards. If things were diffrent I could see a mumscarian queer platonic relationship happening and they'd be able to split the bills THREE ways!!!
