A thread post of appreciation for Avid's role/story in Vampire SMP:
I'm going to start by saying I found Avid through this SMP and I started with Scott's POV and I thought Avid character was interesting and I was immediately intrigued to watch his POV. A few weeks after finishing Scott's pov I watched it. This is my opinion/observation and I watched his POV back November!
Things I really loved about his character was his internal conflict. He had so much guilt for what happened with Elle, he was trying to survive and next thing he knows he's trapped in a town with strangers. He spent so long studying monsters, studying vampires that he clocked in on Scott. He was meant to be erratic about it all. With his friendship with Shelby, it makes a lot of sense as she was the first person to give him the benefit of the doubt. While he was close with Drift too, Drift was still a bit skeptical about it all (which makes sense to her character). His character was meant to be impulsive. It's seen when he's jumping to conclusions, when his putting up signs all over town, when he leaves the town, when he goes to find Scott after seeing them turn into bats, when he pushed Pyro of the tree. He doesn't think about his actions, he just does them. He's meant to be chaotic! That is part of Owen problem with him, in Owen case humans were quick to burn Louis and he carried that with him. So to see Avid quick to throw the punch created that dynamic.
With Shelby, he felt betrayed. He lost one best friend to what he orginally thought was a vampire, and felt like he was losing another. In a fit of rage, he burned her house but immediately regretted it. Then Avid started to realize the curse is taking over, the only person he felt like he could trust was Shelby.
Once again, Avid was already impulsive, erratic, and chaotic. So him losing himself a little after becoming a vampire makes sense. He was desperate to survive, desperate to make up for what he did to Elle.
Then it came to Scott, he latched on to him. It started off as infatuation and was on track into developing to something more. (On Scott's end, Avid was one of the building blocks that allowed him to change, Shelby and Drift being the others. If the series had more time, we could have seen more of that, but it didn't.)
Avid being quick to jump to Scott fits his impulsive narrative. His change to kill the humans. The manic of it all.
Also, I feel like a lot of people glaze over their talk in episode 7, where Avid admits that "he wasn't sure if he wanted to go on anymore". Almost everything Avid does is self-harm. He's extremely self-destructive and that line was meant to highlight that.
All in all, Cc!Avid had so much built into his character and the relationships with others due to his character actions. It was phenomenal storytelling and I got attached to his character a lot quicker than I expected too.
If anyone read this all feel free to put your input in!!
