Every nest has its QUEEN, but this is the KING of all dragons!

Dragons flew out  of one of the entrances squawking and screeching in horror. She stepped out of the shadows of the cavern looking around, her eyes widen in awe. She never been inside of a Bewilderbeast nest before. It was a perfect mixture of greenery and rock.

She then looked down and saw the Alpha,  her ears flattened.

- I… was just curious okay…?-

Cerulean eyes narrowed slightly as the dragon padded into sight, pupils slowly rounding out as he dropped his defensive posture, simply tilting his head slowly to the side. He couldn't detect any lies in the dragoness's words. With a small sigh of frost, the aquatic dragon started towards the multi-headed dragon.

Calm, Safe.

Absentmindedly the gentle giant hoped the new arrival heard him, he wasn't sure just what they were, only that the scent of a bewilderbeast clung to them. Pausing a few feet from the ledge they'd perched on, the bewilderbeast sat back on his haunches, sparing a glance back to make sure the rest of the flock was alright before looking back at the dragonness.

Name, Purpose?

He paused, looking the dragon over swiftly before deciding to ask.

Her gigantic, broad wings glided upon cool updraft as she flew the flew above the cloud bank, avoiding any Viking or Dragon Trapper ship that could possibly be down below , sailing upon the.sea’s watery surface. Though their nets and bolos wouldn’t be able to reach her, the tales of an massive, unknown dragon would be sure to attract more. But she was in a safe zone for now, no ship sail this far north, not with the icebergs and icy land bridge. She slowly began to dip below the cloud bank to see where she is in generally, she stopped and hovered in midair as her sharp eyes laid upon  what looked like an titanic, icy moutian, a huge icy dome wrapped the side of it. Could it be?

She went into a gentle dive towards the icy mountain, she flew around the nest, expecting it. Is this a Bewilderbeast nest? She had never seen a Bewilderbeast nest, it had a powerful look to it. Curiousity took over, she want to see the inside, she looked around the massive nest until she found opening big enough for her to fly into. Once inside wild dragons sqauwked, yowled, and screeched out in surprise at the strange dragon. They scattered, scurried  deeper inside when they saw her, seeing other creatures run from wasn’t new to her. Her scent was scent and weird, it made other dragons very on-edge and fearful. Either they would run away or attack her, she tries to avoid fights though she could handel herself in a fight. She landed on her hind legs, her wings tucked to the side of her body, she fell onto her fours and  prowled deeper into the nest, the wild dragons watching her from shadows.

Fear

The emotion raced violently through his mind, head swinging up towards the otherwise silent entrance to the nest. Pupils narrowing out to slivers in suspicion. Quietly crooning to try and get the mothers to conceal their offspring, feeling small talons remove themselves from resting on his tusk, a glance over confirming the suspicion that yes, the Scuttleclaw had skittered off to play with its siblings.

The Bewilderbeast hauled himself to his feet, feeling the uncertainty thrum through the nest like a heart beast as he peered up at the entrance to the nest, watching in worry as dragons shot through, their fear filling his senses for a few moments before a low rumble in his throat eased the screams and shrieks, flashes of color and scales darted past his face, settling into their hiding places to watch anxiously.

Claws shifting against his stone slab, he felt the strange dragon prowling closer, he knew very well the limits of his mental hold, while rarely used, (only to calm panicking dragons upon freedom from their bonds,) it would have little effect if another, alpha species was nearby. Especially if it happened to be the alpha of this particular dragon.

Wings trembled at his sides, sending the few remaining bits of water flying from pristine white scales, clouds of frost beginning to drift from the corners of his mouth before he allowed the growl to rise in his throat.

Steady was his breathing, the great figure on the edge of consciousness as the tendrils of slumber continued to snake around his mind, slowly easing the king towards rest. With the animated chatter of other dragons soaring over his head and throughout the nest, the occasional squack of a mother trying to wrangle her unruly offspring that listened to nobody, even him. His nerves were calmed, his flock was safe, happy, and the babies were hopping around on his face like they hadn't a care in the world.

All at once, his delicate senses flared to life, something was approaching the nest. Now fully out of his brief state of relaxation, the bewilderbeast blew a small cloud of mist to get the hatchlings away from his face, away from his tusks, before he swung his head around, cerulean gaze ghosting over the various entrances through the nest for the dragons of the flock, if they decided to head off on a flight, or accompanied the woman, Valka to search for others, harmed, flockless members who needed tending to.

A quick glance, and he quickly located the Stormcutter, hanging neatly from the ceiling with the viking that he suppressed a growl. Something wasn't brought with them, it set his nerves on edge. His senses were swarmed with various dragon scents, intermingled into one that only made his task of seeming relaxed all the harder. While he wouldn't have blinked an eye at most of them, the scent that set him on edge the most...

Was the scent of another bewilderbeast.

Jaws parted ever so slightly to allow a plume of frost to form in front of his mist, feeling stray gazes move to him, a small chatter in the back of his mind bringing the Gentle Giants attention to the foremost entrance, one he'd forgotten existed with a low rumble. If this other dragon wanted his flock, he'd fight. He wasn't going to simply hand it over.

For a moment, the Bewilderbeast debated diving into the water, to leave the safety of the nest to confront the possible threat himself, before simply pausing. He could hear wingbeats, He knew from experience that the bewilderbeasts as a whole species, were far too heavy to use their 'wings' as most dragon species would, resorting to taking to the sea like great leviathans.

Still, the scent approached, but only one dragon was nearing, one whose scent was intermingled with various species. While his suspicions still remained in his mind, he wouldn't set off his flock without good reason, the thought forcing his body to ease back onto the slab of stone he'd been standing on, barely teetering towards the water in uncertainty.

The night fury couldn’t help but jump (mostly flinch) when he saw the much larger dragon move, at first thinking that he had done something to offend the other.

He’d been conditioned to react to situations in which he’d been taunted and teased and played with like a harp… he couldn’t count how many times he’d been offered a source of comfort and had it torn away mere moments late. Sometimes the mistress would have been much more lenient and let him indulge for a few minutes but it never lasted long. They had wanted him to suffer, they had wanted him to break.

The mistress wasn’t very patient.

The dragon morph was snapped out of his musing when he heard the sound of pounding waves grow louder. It surprised him to see that it was the King dragon who was stumbling towards him (when had he gone away?),  seeming somewhat awkward with his large body. The smaller of the two tilted his head curiously, suddenly intrigued.

The alpha didn’t seem to know how to move his body. Was he still growing?

The idea that the dragon may be much younger than Hiccup had originally thought appealed to him for some reason. Perhaps it was simply the intimidation factor?

The night fury continued to watch, curiously, as the other grew closer. He ducked into himself as the other open his mouth to deposit a relatively large portion of fish a few feet away from him.

Hiccup balked and stared at the pile, even when it was nudged in his direction, clearly meaning that it was for him.

W-was this a peace offering of some sort? Why was the dragon being so… nice to him?

And suddenly his eyes widened and his ears flattened against his skull as he was hit by a wave ofshame.

He had been comparing dragons to human greed and human sin.

Dragons… had never actually hurt him. They had… they had shot at him, yes, they had caused him injury, yes, but in the long run… they had done nothing to deserve his transgression.

But even knowing all that the jet-black dragon found it hard to let go of the distrust ingrained deep into his bones. Because what if he was wrong? What if things went bad? What if…

There were a lot of ‘what ifs’ and Hiccup was just so scared.

Hiccup looked to the sides and couldn’t help but watch in jealously as dragons of all kinds interacted with each other and flew with ease, no sign of aggression that typically followed a defensive and cornered creature.  

Periwinkle eyes looked back down at fish and willed for the calm that the large creature had initially placed in him. He carefully crawled back to the pile of fish and continued to eat, but this time much slower.

His ear’s twitched as he heard a loud croon come from above and looked up momentarily to see that the other seemed… a bit agitated, almost concerned.

The dragon morph tilted his head in confusion before cringing as the pain in his wing spiked (he’d moved the wrong way). It really wasn’t a good idea to ignore such a serious injury. If he left it untreated it may heal the wrong way and then he’d be…

Hiccup gave a full body shiver at the thought. No. No, that would not happen.

However, there was one problem with the current situation. In his current state (with paws and no actual opposable thumbs) he wouldn’t be able to set his wing straight or to bandage it so that would mean that he’d have to–

SHIFT

The boy stiffened at the thought of turning back into human form, if only half way. What would the alpha think of him? Would he despise him? Not to mention that his human form… it brought back bad memories but did he have a choice?

Shifting ever so slightly to be more balanced on his hip than anything, the bewilderbeast simply observed the Night Fury Morph, tilting his head this way and that rather frequently out of curiosity as the dragon moved. For a moment, he debated if he could even get his tail onto the ledge to bring dragon(and fish) down to the water.

Deciding to test his curiosity, the dragon flicked his tail against the water a couple of times, hopefully letting the injured drake know what he was doing, so he wouldn't spook them before attempting to place the frilled appendage on a portion of the ledge, only able to get to the one just under it before it grew uncomfortable to move. Resulting in a slightly disappointed sigh as his tail slid back to the ground. slapping nosily against front limbs and coiling around his leg.

Noticing the curious look from the smaller dragon, he tilted his head to the opposite side, looking between the fish and the morph once again, hoping to get his point across. Only letting out a pleased plume of frost when they started to eat, the wings, (which would be more accurate to describe as fins due to his size and inability to fly,) lifted from his sides, wiggling childishly before he heaved himself to his feet. An idea refusing to leave his head.

Glancing once more at the Night Fury, he carefully attempted to make a series of short ramps, connecting each ledge together and to the ground, in case the obsidian scaled dragon decided that they'd be more comfortable near the warmth of the spring water.

Deciding it would be best to try and explain what the newly constructed ice slides were for, the bewilderbeast gently laid a tusk against the one closest to the night fury, crooning softly to grab their attention.

The dragon limped forward (so obviously more than his wings were damaged), and let out a breathe as he felt his scaled paws touch the grass.

While he was still slightly disoriented it didn’t stop him from trying to take account of his surroundings. It took him mere seconds to realize that the ice was indeed localized and that there was much more than the ice.

A nest… Hiccup suddenly realized that this was indeed a nest. A small one but there was no doubt in his mind that he had woken to either a safe haven or the devil’s trap.  

It was big so very big. Compared to the Red Deaths (whom he had so fondly named) volcano… they were two different worlds.  

The dragon was startled when he heard something that disrupted the peaceful serenity that surrounded the nest. The morph’s pupils constricted and his frills flared to outwards in a threat display at the break of the tranquility.  

The night furies ears twitched as he heard the tell tale cracking of ice (something was close by). He jumped slightly and lay completely flat on the ground, instinct dictating his actions (telling him to hide hide hide).

However, it was only when he tilted his head up did he spot the one responsible for the previous action. The defensive position he had taken fell apart almost instantly when he saw something he hadn’t expected to see.

The queens he had encountered were big, he’d give them that, but this? This was by far no queen.

The creature, while indeed large, seemed almost pure with it’s base pallet being a pristine snow white. The spikes that seemed to sprout from the beast created a silhouette that seemed to flow with the dragon and then there were the tusks–!

Hiccup’s defenses were in complete shambles after the shocking reveal but instead of fear he couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace fall over him as the dragon came closer.

The dragon morph responded to the croon with his own. His tail swayed behind him, giving off the happiness that the visibly gentle giant gave him. But for some reason… he couldn’t seem to meet the other’s eyes. Every time he tried something inside himself forced Hiccup to look back down.

It was mere seconds later that the young dragon noticed the fish. His frills lifted as another croon left his throat. He looked up at the large dragon once more before looking back down at the fish. He took small steps towards the pile, looking up a few times to make sure that the Queen (no, the dragon was male, it was a King) was accepting of his actions. The steps themselves weren’t easy. His muscles ached (he’d been flying for so long… nearly an entire day and night) and his stomach was making itself known as the smell of raw fish reached his nostrils.

Once he reached the pile it didn’t take long for him to start gulping down the food. He ate fast, glancing up at the other dragon every few fish, watching to see if the other changed his mind or to see if he had displeased him in any other way. He couldn’t help the stray thoughts that went through him.

To think I looked at Toothless weird for eating raw fish. A dragon’s taste buds are… different.

The pain… really was starting to get worse. His paws were torn up and his wing lay limp right next to him. Whenever he tried to move it a spike of pain would shoot through him and discourage any further actions. The night fury sighed as he went about licking at his wounds once he had taken his fill of fish, not wanting to take too much (he didn’t want the King to think he was being greedy or would be a problem).

He made no move to get closer to the small dragon as they looked at the ground, his head tilting just a smidge to the side at the Night Fury's inability to look him in the eye, not that he minded of course.

A flick of his tail sent small waves of water splashing against the lower shores, taking a few steps back to free his tusks from the confines of the ice as the Night Fury ate, though for some reason glancing over at him consistantly through the pile of fish. The hurried pace was concerning, were they afraid? Another croon left his throat, to try and ease the dragon morph. At least before his attention moved back to the fish pile, only a couple of fish remained, bringing him to wonder. Did they not like those types of fish?

Slowly stepping away from the injured morph, the gentle giant sank back into the warmth of the springs, drifting over towards the waterfall that he often had at his back. Ignoring the lack of visibility for a few moments as he stuck his head through the stream, simply grabbing another, small mouthfull of fish to bring back to the injured night fury.

Returning to the ledge with about as much grace as a newly hatched dragon, the Bewilderbeast carefully placed front limbs on the protruding stone and ice, only once he was certain there were no dragons nearby to possibily be harmed as he dropped what he'd brough with him on the ledge. Gingerly nudging the pile closer towards the dragon with his tusk. Which required an awkward angle of his head, a single cerulean eye visible to make sure he didn't harm the already injured drake.

Drawing away once more, the Bewilderbeast practically sat back on his haunches, having scooted onto the shore enough to where only his tail remained in the shore. He wanted to be certain that this dragon was going to be alright before he returned to his slab of stone. But even then he'd still keep an eye on them.
