You all know the “is Lilith closed” debate, and I’ve spent a lot of time arguing about it. Ultimately it is not my place to say. So I’ve decided the solution I feel most comfortable with is to do away with the name entirely. If Jews are insisting that we don’t use it, okay. No problem. I realized after pondering this over that there really is no legitimate reason why we have to use that name. I don’t use Cerberus’ goetic name, cults make up personal names for their deities all the time. Why not.

I identify the Lilit I have worked with as both relating to the “night owl” understanding that was recognized by ancient people, and the demoness of lust, vampirism, the dark feminine, and spiders that she is associated with in Western Demonolatry.

I have not come up with a name yet, I’ll probably ask her formally. But I also wanted to get the opinions of active devotees who also feel it’s time she was given a new name. I see posts all the time from people who feel extremely drawn to her energy and really want to work with her, but worry about appropriating. These energies are ancient. They’ve had hundreds of names. If the people who created the name don’t want us to use it, let’s make one of our own.

As someone of the people who created the name, you may use it yet only without cowardice. or Literally just use Lilia, Lilit. it doesn’t have to be “Lilith” letter for letter since it’s such an issue for certain jews of important opinion To You. maybe. Yet truthfully: Most made up issue of all time. Cuz Satanists sure as hell aren’t appropriating Judaism or Christianity when they worship The Adversary. Anyway.

I do not think Lilith is closed. And I know that she herself doesn’t care about any of this at all. Regardless of if Lilith truly is open or not, people are going to be upset either way. I only wish to avoid conflating my practice with those who think she is inherently closed to Judaism. It’s not that I believe I have to do this, I’m just doing it for the sake of simplicity. I don’t want people to think I’m referencing Judaism when I talk about her, so I’ve opted not to use the name they came up with when I refer to her. For my own sanity.

I like the idea of giving her a new name, like you said, there’s no real reason why it has to be “Lilith” exactly. I really like the name Alilis.
